Chapter 197: Chapter 0197: Heartless and Unfeeling_1
"What nonsense are you talking about? I don’t need you to protect me! My brother-in-law will protect me, of course!" Liu Ruomei glared fiercely at Zhang Bin.
The remark nearly made Zhang Bin spit blood. He finally realized his efforts had been in vain and had amounted to nothing. This woman was unlike any other; she was thoughtless, her gratitude lasting only for a fleeting moment before she forgot it completely.
In her mind, the real Zhang Bin was the most important person, the one she could never forget.
Since you love your brother-in-law so much, why can’t you just be his woman instead of putting him through all this trouble? Zhang Bin grumbled inwardly, feeling a wave of helplessness.
Liu Ruomei supported Zhang Bin for a short distance before growing impatient. She began dragging him like a dead dog to the small square in front of Half-Mountain Temple, where she shoved him heavily onto a stone bench. "You’re so useless," she said, annoyed. "So you took a few punches, got kicked a few times, and were slapped around a bit? Why can’t you walk? Let me tell you, even if my brother-in-law’s throat were cut, he’d heal in an instant!"
Zhang Bin was so angry he nearly fainted. How could such a heartless woman ever find a boyfriend? Only her brother-in-law would treasure her like this.
Then, he broke into a cold sweat as the realization hit him. Wait a minute, *I’m* her brother-in-law!
Liu Ruomei wasn’t finished. "Do you want me to call my brother-in-law to come and treat you?"
Your brother-in-law is standing right in front of you; how could he possibly come over? Zhang Bin thought with a wry, internal smile. He said awkwardly, "No need to trouble him. I think I can manage. My bones probably aren’t broken; it’s just superficial wounds. Could you please go to the temple and ask if they have any medicine for bruises and sprains? If not, see if they have any white liquor. Get me a bottle to rub on my injuries."
"You need medicine for bruising or white liquor? You don’t look that hurt to me." Liu Ruomei looked at Zhang Bin doubtfully. She had personally seen him take many punches, especially to the face. He had been hit at least a dozen times, yet there wasn’t a single mark on him, which seemed a bit strange.
But with her straightforward nature, she didn’t dwell on it. "Alright, you sit here for a bit. I’ll go ask."
Liu Ruomei hurried off, returning about ten minutes later with a bottle of white liquor.
"It’s just that my chest hurts a lot. I can rub it myself." Zhang Bin took the liquor, turned his back, and began to feign rubbing his chest.
"Here, let me do it for you." Liu Ruomei hesitated for a moment before taking the bottle from him. She reached out with her slender, fair hands and began to massage Zhang Bin’s chest.
Her suspicion grew as she rubbed his chest, finding no redness or bruising there either.
Maybe it’s because the injuries are so fresh that there’s no discoloration yet. It’ll probably be swollen and bruised by tomorrow, Liu Ruomei muttered to herself as she watched Zhang Bin wince, her hands never stopping.
This feels really good. This sister-in-law of mine has always been wild and untamed, but she has a gentle side, too, Zhang Bin sighed inwardly. I need to buy another apartment soon. Living with her in the villa isn’t out of the question, but I’m afraid Liu Ruolan will see through my disguise. Ruolan is sharp and very observant. I must be cautious. Ugh, just trying to do a good deed and save my sister-in-law has become so complicated. The sacrifices I’m making are too great...
But perhaps joy breeds sorrow, for a sinister laugh suddenly broke the peace. "Brother Qing, they’re the ones who injured our men."
The speaker was one of the six burly men from before—in fact, it was their leader.
Walking down the steps beside him was a young man who looked to be in his early twenties. He was a strange sight, dressed in ancient-style clothing with a longsword hanging at his waist. His hair was long, his nose was hooked like an eagle’s beak, and his narrow eyes glowed with a vile light as they fixed on Liu Ruomei, refusing to look away.
He was incredibly powerful. With just two steps, he crossed over ten meters and landed before Zhang Bin and Liu Ruomei, radiating murderous intent. "Woman, you’re the one who injured our Sect’s men? Did you think you could just run away? Not a chance!"
This is bad. He’s a master, and he seems much stronger than I am,
Liu Ruomei’s expression changed. She quickly stepped in front of Zhang Bin and shouted, "Your men harassed me first and then beat up my friend! I fought back and took them down. We didn’t come looking for trouble with you, yet you’re trying to pick a fight with us? Do you think we’re easy to bully?""Woman, that’s just your side of the story. My subordinates say you attacked them. Come on, you’re coming with us to our Sect to sort this out," the youth said, his gaze growing more sinister and his tone leaving no room for argument.
"And if we refuse?" Liu Ruomei said angrily.
"If you refuse, then we’ll just have to drag you there," the hook-nosed youth sneered. His right hand shot out, forming an eagle’s claw as it lunged toward Liu Ruomei’s shoulder.
"You think I’m afraid of you?" Liu Ruomei roared, throwing a fierce punch to meet his eagle claw.
BOOM!
The impact sounded like two massive waves colliding. The youth stood motionless, as unmoving as a mountain.
"Ah!" Liu Ruomei, however, let out a pained cry. She lost her balance and fell directly into Zhang Bin’s arms. Looking closely, her hand trembled uncontrollably and was already red and badly swollen.
I’m doomed, Liu Ruomei’s face went pale. He’s too strong; I’m no match for him at all. Plus, he has that treasured sword, so there’s no way to defend myself. What do I do?
"Get up and come with me. Otherwise, I’ll turn you both into corpses right now," the hook-nosed youth threatened murderously.
"Hehe... Brother Qing will take *very* good care of you, beauty. You’ve really hit the jackpot," the burly man snickered from the side.
Zhang Bin had wanted to use his Special Ability just a moment ago, but Liu Ruomei had blocked his line of sight. Because he couldn’t use it, she had suffered a hidden loss.
Now, his heart blazed with absolute fury. He shot to his feet and cried out in grief and rage, "Is there no justice left in this world? Is there no way for good people to survive? Why? Why?! Heaven, if you cannot stand to see the wicked run rampant, then please, send down a disaster and punish these evildoers!"
The hook-nosed youth was stunned, staring at Zhang Bin as if he were a fool.
The burly man began to cackle strangely. "Bookworm, you’ve really studied yourself stupid. Haven’t you ever heard the saying, ’the good die young, but scourges live for a thousand years’?"
It wasn’t just them; even Liu Ruomei didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Is Chen Junheng having some kind of fit?
"Even if Heaven won’t punish them," Zhang Bin cried out again in despair, "is there no hero who will come and save us?"
