Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Escape from Danger
Before long, a nurse came running from a distance, carrying a box in her hands as she rushed into the delivery room.
Elias Lancaster’s eyes were vacant, "I need to go in, she’ll be scared."
He had never been afraid of anything before, but at this moment, he was terrified, terrified of losing her.
Ronan Keaton crouched down and looked at him.
"Elias, the doctors are performing surgery on Serena right now. If you go in, you’ll distract them."
"I need to go in, she’s alone and will be frightened."
"Elias Lancaster, calm down. All we can do now is wait. Going in will only add to the doctors’ stress and burden."
In the end, Elias could only wait outside the delivery room.
Old Madam Lancaster heard the news and hurried over from the baby washroom.
When she saw her son sitting in a wheelchair, her eyes reddened, "Elias, what’s wrong with you? Where are you hurt?"
"Mom, I’m fine, it’s just a small injury. Serena... a major hemorrhage."
Old Madam Lancaster looked toward the delivery room door.
"Don’t worry, Serena will pull through."
Old Master Lancaster and Old Master Keaton also arrived.
They were furrowing their brows.
They didn’t ask Elias anything; right now, Serena Yeats was the most important to them.
At this moment, Nanny Livingston and Nanny Carter were each holding a child, trying to soothe them.
The two children had suddenly started crying loudly for some unknown reason, even the second baby who hadn’t cried since birth was crying heartbreakingly.
No matter what, they couldn’t calm the babies down.
Half an hour later.
The light outside the operating room finally went off.
Elias looked at the doctor coming out and quickly asked.
"Doctor, how is my wife?"
The doctor removed his mask, "We managed to resuscitate her. Young Madam needs to be observed in ICU for two days."
Upon hearing this, everyone let out a sigh of relief.
But Elias still had deep furrows in his brow.
Serena Yeats was wheeled out of the delivery room directly into the ICU.
The two children stopped crying, as if sensing something.
Elias looked through the transparent glass at Serena Yeats lying in the ICU, covered in tubes, a bitter taste in his heart.
"Pfft..."
"Elias..."
Elias could no longer hold on; he spat out a mouthful of blood.
And then.
He was taken into the emergency room.
It was not until three days later that Elias woke up again, turning his gaze to the bed beside him to see Serena still unconscious, not yet awake.
His eyes stared blankly at her.
"Serena, won’t you please wake up?"
"Serena, I can’t be without you, and neither can our two children."
"I’m sorry, it’s all because of me that you’re like this."
"Please wake up soon, we still have to name the babies!"
"You promised that once you had the baby, we would have our wedding, you can’t lie to me."
Elias kept talking to her until he tired out and fell asleep.
Another two days passed.
Elias was transferred to a regular ward, but every day he still wheeled to the ICU to see Serena Yeats and talk to her.
Old Madam Lancaster and Old Master Lancaster held the children outside the ICU, looking at the person lying inside, feeling deep sadness.
The doctor had spoken to them, telling them to be mentally prepared.
At this moment, a child in their arms suddenly began to cry.
Ronan Keaton looked outside, "Elias, those are the children Serena fought to bring into the world for you. You haven’t seen them or held them yet."
"If it weren’t for them, Serena wouldn’t be like this now. I don’t want to see them."
He was now regretting his decision; he shouldn’t have been so selfish.
The children continued to cry outside, crying heartbreakingly.
The cries were loud enough to be heard even in the ICU, making Serena’s fingers twitch, her closed eyes quivering.
She couldn’t open her eyes, but murmured, "Baby, don’t cry, mom’s here."
Tears fell from her eyes, and Ronan Keaton immediately pressed the call button.
"Keep talking to Young Madam," the doctor said after examining her.
Elias held her hand, "Serena, don’t sleep, wake up."
But the person on the bed showed no response.
Ronan Keaton looked at the two elderly people outside holding the children.
Suddenly, something occurred to him, "Elias, the children, Serena just heard their cries."
He said this and immediately ran outside, carrying the two children back in.
"Wah wah... wah wah..."
The two children immediately began crying louder.
Old Madam Lancaster and Old Master Lancaster hadn’t reacted yet before the children were taken inside.
Elias continued, "Serena, please wake up, the babies are crying, they want you to hold them."
Tears fell from Serena’s eyes.
She heard the babies crying in her dreams, but in the fog surrounding her, she couldn’t see them.
The children’s cries were heart-wrenching, and Serena fought against the fog in her dreams, running desperately, trying to find her children.
And then.
She saw Elias coming towards her holding the children.
"Serena, please hold the babies, will you?"
The fog before her eyes slowly dispersed.
The people in front of her became clearer and clearer, and she smiled as she walked towards them, "Okay!"
She finally saw the people in her dream clearly and reached out to take one of the children.
A blinding light brought her back to reality and she awoke.
Serena Yeats looked at the man in front of her, dark circles under his eyes, stubble on his chin, seeming much thinner, still in a wheelchair.
Looking at his leg in a cast, she asked anxiously, "Elias, what happened to your leg?"
"I’m fine, I just accidentally hurt it."
Elias’s eyes were reddened.
"You’ve lost weight." Serena touched his face with tenderness, tears of heartache falling.
"Don’t cry, you can’t cry during the confinement period, it’s bad for your eyes." Elias kissed her hand, "Serena, you slept for so long, I was scared you wouldn’t want me anymore."
His precious one finally woke up, yet his heart still couldn’t help but ache. He couldn’t imagine what he would do if she hadn’t woken up.
She was the love of his life, the person he held dearly in his heart.
Serena caressed his furrowed forehead, "Elias, I’m so tired. In my dream, there was such a thick fog, I couldn’t find you or the babies anywhere."
Elias kissed the back of her hand gently, "I’m sorry, it was my selfishness that hurt you. We won’t have any more children in the future."
"I could hear you talking to me, but I just couldn’t find my way."
As she spoke, tears rolled down her cheeks, feeling so wronged.
Elias wiped her tears, "I’m sorry for all the pain you’ve endured!"
"Elias, I wanna see the babies."
"No rush, first let the doctor check you over."
Shortly after, the doctor conducted an examination, concluding that everything was alright.
Serena Yeats was then transferred to a regular ward.
When the two children were brought to her bedside, she was moved to tears.
Elias had not seen the children since waking up, now marveling at the miracle of life.
Before long.
Serena grew tired and fell asleep.
In her sleep, she seemed to be uncomfortable, her brows knitted together.
Elias stroked her hair, "Sleep, I’m here with you."
A moment later.
The sound of a baby crying could be heard.
