Chapter 6: His Home

Chapter 6: Chapter 6: His Home

When Mrs. Lancaster heard that Elias Lancaster had brought someone over to take care of, she immediately came over and found out the test results.

Once she got the news, she rushed over joyfully, thinking she could finally meet the person, but when she arrived, the servant said Serena Yeats was sleeping.

So, she quickly went to the study to find Elias Lancaster.

"Son, when will that girl wake up?"

Elias Lancaster was a bit speechless, "..."

"I don’t know, she was exhausted all morning, let her sleep well." His tone was caring.

Mrs. Lancaster pouted, not looking like someone in her sixties at all, "You spent the whole morning with her, what do you think of that girl?"

Elias Lancaster took out the investigation materials, "She’s nice, just a bit timid."

Mrs. Lancaster picked up the materials and started reading, the more she read, the more her heart ached, especially when she saw how her parents beat her and didn’t give her food, it made her even more furious!

She angrily slammed the table, "Such people don’t deserve to be parents, not sending her to school is one thing, but selling her!"

"This is a child with a hard life, since she’s carrying our family’s blood, it shows she’s fated with The Lancaster Family, you should treat her well, understand?"

"Understood."

The more Mrs. Lancaster thought about Serena Yeats, the more her heart ached for her, "I’m going to check on her."

Elias Lancaster stood up to follow, "I’m going too."

The mother and son walked out of the study together, under Nanny Livingston’s guidance, they arrived at the room, and as soon as the door was opened, they were met with stifling heat.

They were both stunned.

Why is the room so hot?

Mrs. Lancaster hurried in to check the air conditioner, it wasn’t on!

She then checked on the sleeping Serena Yeats, who was wearing simple clothes and had a forehead full of sweat.

It’s so hot and the air conditioner isn’t on, how can she sleep well!

Nanny Livingston quickly turned on the air conditioner.

Elias Lancaster walked to the bedside with a somber face, took a tissue, felt a bit heartbroken, and gently wiped Serena Yeats’s sweat.

He instructed Nanny Livingston to stay and watch, and adjust the temperature to a comfortable level once it cooled down before he and Mrs. Lancaster left the room.

Mrs. Lancaster thought about that frail girl who could be knocked down by the wind.

"How can this child endure this weather?"

Elias Lancaster thought for a moment. "She’s afraid of spending money!"

"How much can it cost? It must be so uncomfortable in such heat!"

After that.

Mrs. Lancaster thought of the harsh environment Serena Yeats grew up in, and understood why she acted this way.

It seems she is indeed a good child.

If she wasn’t, she would be enjoying herself without a second thought once she came here.

Mrs. Lancaster sighed, "I’ll just wait here for her, once she wakes up, I’ll take her to get some clothes and necessities, she doesn’t have to live as she did before after coming to our family."

Soon after.

Nanny Livingston came downstairs.

In the living room, Mrs. Lancaster and Elias Lancaster quickly asked when they saw Nanny Livingston, "How is it?"

Nanny Livingston smiled and said, "It’s fine, the temperature has come down, the Young Madam is sleeping soundly."

The room’s heat had dissipated, the bed was soft, and Serena Yeats slept much better.

She slept until past four in the afternoon, feeling so comfortable.

Not hot at all.

The quilt?

She remembered not covering herself when she slept!

The room was cool.

Serena Yeats seemed to think of something.

Suddenly, she looked up at the air conditioner, and sure enough, it was running at 26 degrees!

But.....

She clearly didn’t turn on the air conditioner before she slept!

She slept so well, turns out, it was because the air conditioner was on!

She slept for so long, how long has the air conditioner been running? How much will it cost?

Serena Yeats didn’t have time to think much, got up quickly and turned off the air conditioner, hoping it hadn’t used too much electricity.

After freshening up, Serena Yeats went downstairs.

As soon as she reached the downstairs living room, she saw the two people sitting on the sofa.

This old lady looked a bit like Elias Lancaster, they held similar auras.

Serena Yeats thought for a bit, since they looked alike, she should be Elias Lancaster’s mother.

Coming from a poor background and moving in just because of her pregnancy, the old lady might not like her, it’s better not to meet her.

Thinking this, Serena Yeats turned to go back upstairs.

But since she came downstairs towards the living room, the two people in the living room had already noticed her.

Mrs. Lancaster was sitting there waiting happily for her to come over and greet.

But she didn’t expect Serena Yeats to turn around and leave?

The aura of inferiority radiating from her, Mrs. Lancaster could understand what she was thinking, just afraid she wouldn’t like her.

Mrs. Lancaster’s heart already ached, feeling she was a child with a hard life, now even more sympathetic towards her.

"Serena." She gently called the retreating girl.

Serena Yeats stopped in her tracks, her body stiffened, the whole person was very tense.

At this moment, with her back to them, nobody could see her helplessness.

She told herself not to be nervous, that it was fine, she took a deep breath, turned around, and forced a smile that looked even uglier than crying, "Hello, is there something you need?"

The aura of Elias Lancaster and the old lady was too strong, Serena Yeats’s voice was smaller than a mosquito’s.

She was very scared, also felt inferior, she figured she didn’t deserve to stand there.

Mrs. Lancaster’s heartache couldn’t be suppressed, her expression was gentle, afraid of frightening the person before her.

Her tone was very slow, "Serena, come here and sit."

Serena Yeats felt as if her feet were welded to the ground, she couldn’t lift them.

She told herself inside, it’s okay, the old lady seems kind, she probably wouldn’t make things difficult for her, right?

Thinking so, she suppressed her inner fear and walked over step by step.

Elias Lancaster furrowed his brows, not speaking, just watching her, unclear what he was thinking.

Serena Yeats slowly walked to Mrs. Lancaster, bowed her head respectfully, and greeted, "Ma’am."

She put herself very low.

Mrs. Lancaster reached out, pulled her over affectionately to sit, taking her hand, she softly said, "Serena, don’t be afraid, we’re not malicious, we’re not bad people."

Serena Yeats looked up surprised, panic flashed in her eyes, then she quickly lowered her head again.

"Serena, don’t be afraid."

Serena Yeats let Mrs. Lancaster hold her hand, not daring to move, she softly said, "I’m not."

Mrs. Lancaster held her hand, "This old lady here just wants to chat with you."

Serena Yeats was too nervous to know what to say, just hummed lightly.

Mrs. Lancaster smiled and said, "You guessed I’m Elias’s mother, right?"

Serena Yeats nodded. "Yes."

"I know the child in you is our Elias’s, Elias will take good care of you, so you don’t have to worry, feel free to stay here.

It’s hard for us in The Lancaster Family to have descendants, I had Elias when I was almost forty, so next, it’ll be hard on you."

Serena Yeats didn’t know what to say, just nodded.

Is she supposed to say that she hasn’t decided whether to keep the child?

But Elias seemed unhappy, she was afraid of accidentally making him angry, what should she do?
