Chapter 21: Going Home

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Going Home

"I miss you so much!"

Serena Yeats laughed happily, "I miss you too."

A moment later, the two of them registered using the computer in the café.

Nathan Sawyer asked, "Serena, why did you take a break from school?"

Serena thought for a moment, "It’s just... some things, I haven’t been in touch with my parents."

"Where are you staying now?" Nathan sensed that Serena was hiding something from her, "Did you find a job?"

"Yes, I think if you submit that necklace design you did before, it would definitely work..."

Serena was used to Nathan’s train of thought jumping around, but it was a good thing since she really didn’t know how to explain what had happened to her recently.

Suddenly, she remembered Nathan mentioning in the morning that the school’s security guard said her mother had been looking for her at the school.

She needed to go back once, just to bring back the design drafts she had before.

She looked at the time, at this moment, they were all at the store, no one would be home.

"Nathan, I need to go home to get my design drafts. I’ll go now, let’s meet up another day, and I’ll tell you what’s happened recently."

Seeing Serena’s sincere face, Nathan didn’t press further, anyway, her parents had already arranged for her to attend school over here.

There would be plenty of chances to go shopping together in the future.

"You’re going back now? But my dad is coming to pick me up from grandma’s, you’re going back alone, your mom..."

Nathan was genuinely worried Serena would get beaten again if she went back.

"It’s fine, there are customers in the store, she wouldn’t dare." Serena comforted her.

A moment later.

Serena stood at The Yeats Family’s store entrance, watching her busy parents inside, she walked towards the backdoor.

Towards the small room on the third floor, on the rooftop through the backdoor.

Yes, this was where she lived, the storage room on the rooftop, filled with clutter, even the bed was just a few stools put together.

There was also a small bedside table, which her brother no longer used, she brought it up to use, and she opened the drawer to put all her sketches in her bag.

Then she went downstairs, and just as she reached the store entrance, she was seen by Mrs. Yeats standing at the door.

"Serena, you worthless girl still dare to come back! You made me pay thousands in medical bills to Boss Hayes!"

Speaking of which.

She reached out to grab Serena, pulling her hard.

Serena fell backward unexpectedly.

She let out a frightened scream.

The next second.

A large hand caught her waist, and she fell into a warm embrace.

Serena looked up in shock, "Uncle, why are you here?"

Elias Lancaster steadied Serena, his voice somewhat cold, "Didn’t you say you’d wait for me at home?"

Serena looked at him.

His face, already cold, was now like The Living Yama, his eyes sharp, cold enough to make one feel the chill.

She lowered her head, guilty, her little head drooping.

Like a child who’d done something wrong.

Mrs. Yeats rushed forward, reaching out to grab Serena, but Elias Lancaster protected her behind him.

"You little tramp, daring to bring a man home, do you have a death wish?" Mrs. Yeats pointed and cursed.

The customers in the store heard the noise and came running out.

Elias Lancaster’s face darkened, "You’re asking for it!"

"Uncle... don’t be angry!" Serena said quickly.

Seeing the man in front of her wasn’t easy to mess with, Mrs. Yeats thought for a moment; no one could stop her from disciplining her daughter.

Then she looked at Serena, and just thinking about Boss Hayes wanting her to return tens of thousands in bride price, she got furious, angrily pointing at her and shouting loudly.

"I’m telling you, I’m taking you to Boss Hayes later. You better keep him company tonight, or I’ll break off all ties with you. From now on, you’re no daughter of this family."

Mr. Yeats, who had remained silent at the side, also spoke up, "Serena, we’ve raised you for twenty years. No matter what, you should learn to be grateful. The family is in trouble, and you have to help a bit."

"Dad, mom, do you know... do you know what you’re saying?"

Serena’s face turned pale, her whole body trembling, but she was also afraid Elias Lancaster would do something rash, so she clung tightly to his hand.

They wanted to sell her to a man who could be her father, and how could they say it with such certainty?

Mrs. Yeats’s face turned vicious, "You’re a jinx. Since we brought you back, nothing has gone right at home. You dared to hurt someone and ran away.

Now you’re bringing a wild man home. If you don’t help the family, what’s the point of keeping you? It’d be better if you died outside."

Serena’s head buzzed, feeling dizzy, almost unable to stand.

Fortunately, Elias Lancaster supported her.

She looked at her parents in front of her, at this moment, they looked so ugly, as if she’d done something terribly wrong.

Serena felt heartache wondering how she could have parents like this, they raised her, but never treated her as their own, always hitting and cursing.

Serena said with disappointment, "I really am not your biological child."

"So what if you’re not? We raised you. I couldn’t give birth to someone so shameless..." Mrs. Yeats said loudly, and then started spewing curses, simply unbearable to hear.

Just then, a few business cars arrived, bodyguards got off the cars, exuding a murderous aura, surrounding the store.

Mr. and Mrs. Yeats were so scared they ran into the small shop, shutting the door, and people watching the drama started pointing and whispering.

But at this moment, no one dared to speak up, afraid of getting into trouble.

"Serena, are you okay?" Nathan’s anxious voice called out.

Serena turned around to look at Nathan.

"Nathan, I’m fine, why did you come?"

"I was worried about you."

Elias glanced coldly at the people around, then lifted Serena in his arms, walking towards the car.

Nathan followed closely behind them.

This man, if she remembered correctly, was the heir of The Lancaster Family, Elias Lancaster. How did he know Serena, and why was he holding her?

Elias Lancaster wasn’t young, he was thirty.

One had to admit, Nathan’s train of thought was indeed peculiar.

After Serena got in and sat down, she looked out the window, calling out, "Nathan, get in the car."

Nathan snapped out of it, "Okay."

Elias Lancaster ignored Nathan, keeping a cold face the entire time.

This made Serena a bit scared, as Elias Lancaster’s cold face was intimidating, not to mention he was currently angry.

After they returned home, throughout the journey, Nathan’s eyes were wide with curiosity, eager to know what the relationship between Elias Lancaster and Serena Yeats was.

She only had one word in her mind: canary.
