Chapter 23: Not Their Biological Child

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Not Their Biological Child

As soon as the words were spoken.

Serena Yeats was completely bewildered, having entirely forgotten what she was supposed to do.

To Nathan Sawyer, it seemed like her thoughts were aligned with his; she was furious and wanted to settle the score with Elias Lancaster.

So what if he was rich?

So what if he offended the Lancaster Family?

At worst, he’d just become a poor man.

Serena reacted, seeing how angry she was, and quickly grabbed her hand.

"Nathan, what are you planning to do?"

Nathan had a righteous expression.

"I’m going to ask him how much money it would take for you to leave."

Nathan’s strength was too much for Serena to hold back. "Nathan, listen to me, my relationship with him isn’t what you think it is."

Serena explained for quite some time, with her repeated assurances and emphasis.

Nathan finally reluctantly believed that she wasn’t Elias Lancaster’s mistress.

The two sat and chatted for a while, and Serena saw that the food was already set on the dining table.

Elias hadn’t come down yet, and she blinked at Nanny Livingston.

Nanny Livingston smiled. "Young Madam, go call the Young Master down for dinner. His stomach isn’t strong, so he needs to eat on time."

At her words, Serena immediately stood up and walked away.

Nathan saw how anxious she was and looked a bit worried.

Serena, such a good kid, how did she end up like this?

Serena knocked on the study’s door, but there was no response?

So, she softly said, "Uncle, it’s time to eat. Are you still busy?"

When Elias heard Serena’s voice, his gaze swept over the photo of the severed relationship on the computer screen, closed down the computer, and stood up.

The moment he opened the door, his eyes softened, seeing Serena standing at the door with clear, bright eyes.

"Nanny Livingston’s made dinner, eat first before continuing your work."

Elias looked at her. "The way they treat you, aren’t you angry?"

Serena lowered her little head.

"Angry, I’ve known for a long time that I wasn’t their biological child, but I don’t know what I did wrong for them to hate me so much?"

A glimmer of ferocity flashed in Elias’s eyes.

Then he smiled and said to Serena.

"Serena, there are things in this world without reason or explanation, but you must remember.

If someone hurts you, you have to learn to fight back, even seek revenge, do you understand?"

Serena looked at Elias, her eyes filled with confusion.

At home, she was used to being passive and enduring.

Elias reached out and patted her head. "If anyone bullies you in the future, just come to me, and I’ll help you deal with them."

Serena was amused, feeling like she was looking for a helper to fight. Wouldn’t she be called to the school office if this happened at school?

If only Uncle were her guardian, that would be great!

Serena was startled by this thought in her heart.

If Elias knew about her thoughts, he would probably be exasperated yet amused.

"Come on, let’s go eat."

Seeing the two of them walk hand in hand, Nanny Livingston’s smile couldn’t be contained.

"As expected, our Young Madam and Young Master are a perfect match."

Nathan looked and retorted, "My Serena is only twenty, Elias Lancaster is just an old man."

Nanny Livingston was not offended at all.

"My Young Master looks young."

Nathan glanced again; indeed, Elias’s face was quite handsome after all.

Pfft!

Almost got swayed by that.

The important thing wasn’t that now, the important thing was whether he was serious about Serena or just curious and wanted to play around.

Nathan was continually worried, fearing her dear friend and sister might get deceived by the devious Master Lancaster.

Dinner was relatively smooth, except Nathan had things on her mind and couldn’t eat.

Afterwards, she called home and insisted on staying over.

When it came to sleeping, Elias realized he’d dug himself into a deep hole; it had been so long since he could sleep in the same bed as his wife.

Now, he had to sleep in the guest room again.

Nanny Livingston felt sorry for her Young Master—he had just started sharing a bed with the Young Madam, and now they had to sleep apart again.

In the middle of the night.

Serena wasn’t sleeping well.

The master bedroom door quietly opened.

A tall figure quietly made its way towards the bed.

By the moonlight coming through the window, he looked at Serena, who wasn’t sleeping soundly.

Elias sighed, his fingertip brushing against Serena’s furrowed brow.

Suddenly.

"Serena darling..."

Nathan, who was sleeping beside, mumbled and threw a leg over.

Seeing that leg about to land on Serena, Elias was startled, reached out, and stopped it, pushing it back.

Nathan slept like a log, turned over, and continued sleeping.

Elias frowned.

He scooped Serena up and carried her out.

In the guest room.

Elias looked at the little head burrowed into his arms, his previously worried heart finally at ease.

That night, Serena slept soundly in Elias’s arms, leaving behind all the day’s events.

Irrespective of what the Yeats Family wanted now.

Early the next morning, Nathan was woken up by the phone. Groping around for a while, she finally found it.

Teary-eyed, she saw the caller ID was Mom.

She snapped awake, recalling yesterday’s events, and immediately hung up.

She then groped beside her.

"Serena, your mom..."

Her hand came up empty, and she looked to the side.

"Huh! Where did you go?"

"Serena!"

She called out, but no one answered.

She got up, washed, and as soon as she opened the room door, she saw Serena coming out of the guest room.

Her lips twitched, "Serena, don’t tell me you were sleepwalking last night?"

Serena gave an awkward laugh, "Nathan, I’m so hungry. Let’s have breakfast first." Saying this, she linked arms with Nathan and went downstairs.

The two chatted and laughed while having breakfast.

Suddenly.

Serena’s phone rang again.

She glanced at it, saw it was her brother Felix Yeats calling, and answered it.

"Serena Yeats, if you want to die, do it yourself. Why drag us into it? You should go and apologize to Boss Hayes right now, beg him to take you back."

Hearing the familiar voice and curses, Serena’s good mood vanished; she put down her chopsticks.

Listening to the continuous swearing from the phone.

"As you said, you adopted me, what does your family’s affairs have to do with me."

Serena’s voice was soft and lacked any momentum.

Nathan sat right beside her; even without the speakerphone, she could hear the cursing. She snatched the phone away.

Coldly laughing, "I think it’s time I take Serena for a DNA test and announce to the world that she isn’t your Yeats daughter. How can you treat her like a commodity to be sold?"
