Chapter 50: Midnight snack
Felix took out his phone to check the time. He was done here, but still had enough time before the appointment with Elizabeth, so he decided to pay one of his best friends a visit.
Felix had two close friends from high school, Ben and Kyle, who’d stuck together after that, doing the one thing they loved most—gaming.
But aside from that, Kyle had also wanted to be a Sage together with Felix, but only Felix had passed, and after that day Felix hadn’t seen him again. Even on the day he’d left Earth for Vastoria, only his mom and Ben had showed up.
Felix didn’t read much meaning into that because he understood it was frustrating to fail the Sage candidacy trials as every person had one shot at it, because in a decade’s time when the next trials would be held, the individual would be above the required age limits: 13-19.
Felix wasn’t sure he’d find Kyle at his residence, as he might be working a night shift at a part-time job—a similar situation to Felix. But Ben was actually from a wealthy family and lived in a much better-off neighborhood, and would surely be in this late at night.
Felix glanced at Lilith who was now sprawled on his mother’s bed like she’d never laid on something so soft.
"Lilith, we’re done here," Felix said to her.
"Let’s take a cab," Lilith said as she sat up.
Lilith had a passive expression when she said that, but Felix knew she suggested it because she wanted to actually sit in the electronic moving construct she’d seen while flying, as they didn’t have that from where she came from.
Felix didn’t have a problem with that, and nodded his head in agreement.
They both left his mom’s house, and then the deserted neighborhood, while Felix swiftly ordered a ride through his phone.
It would take a few minutes before the cab arrived, so Felix decided to take Lilith for a night snack. If she was curious about a car, then she’d surely love their food here.
They arrived at a nearby restaurant, just outside the neighborhood that Felix had frequented with his friends from high school, but it quickly turned out to be a terrible idea as Lilith, in her seductive black dress, instantly drew the attention of everyone they crossed paths with, even until they entered the restaurant and sat together at a table.
Felix had to make sure from time to time that his hood was covering every strand of his white hair—which would be an instant giveaway—and prevented anyone from recognizing him through the hood.
But Lilith didn’t seem to mind the attention.
The server quickly left the table she was attending to to run up to the hooded man who had come with his beautiful girlfriend to her small establishment for a night snack. From the way the man kept pulling his hood, she suspected he might actually be a small-time celebrity and was definitely handsome enough to pull such beauty.
"Pleasant evening, good sir and ma’am, I’ll take your orders," The middle-aged lady said with a bright smile as she glanced from Felix to Lilith, then back at Felix seeing as Lilith was staring at him.
Felix picked up the menu and ran his eyes through it. There were his favorites he ate with Ben and Kyle back then, there were ones that were too expensive for them back then—even for Ben—and there were a few new dishes on the menu.
Lilith also had the menu and was looking through it, but didn’t seem to know which one to pick as she’d never tasted any of them, but they all looked appetizing.
So Felix began pointing out his order to the server without a word, the woman was startled at the random orders but took notes of it.
A simple burger and fries.
Spicy chicken sandwich.
Steak dinner.
Grilled fish.
Loaded nachos.
Deep-fried Oreos.
...
The server quickly ran off to prepare their orders, and when it was ready, Felix gave Lilith the first bite privilege which unlocked a new reaction for her that wasn’t her passive expression or her devilish grin.
Felix was initially worried about her manners when she ate, but was instantly ashamed of that thought as he observed her eat like a queen. She was literally a noble from the underworld. A Goddess who’s lived longer than he could count.
How dare he entertain such impudent thoughts?
Felix ate less and stared more, as just watching the demoness eat filled his stomach. She’d occasionally raise her head to nod approvingly at Felix with a bright smile that resembled a thousand-year-old flower.
Not only him, but everyone else seemed to be staring at Lilith, including the server who stood by the side to assist them with whatever it was they’d need her for.
Felix received a notification that his ride had arrived, and decided to generously tip the driver to wait outside till Lilith was done with her meal—as left to him, he wasn’t hungry and had already eaten to his fill earlier at the banquet he ordered for his mother.
He might order one for her later as well.
After she was done, Felix paid the bills which came out at about $136+ and didn’t forget to tip the server generously too.
They walked outside to where the cab was packed and after Felix held the door open for her, he hopped into the other side.
Lilith’s eyes were glued to the window throughout the journey, and though she didn’t have much of a reaction, Felix knew she loved the view and made a quick mental note to unlock every human emotion in Lilith.
The cab drove off with Felix and Lilith standing before a white luxurious duplex. But Felix didn’t walk over to the gate to ring the bell. Instead, he went around the house and leaped up to a window that had its lights off, but Felix was certain Ben wasn’t asleep yet.
He pried the windows open and stepped in, with Lilith following closely. The room was dark except for the PC on the table which was live on an online video game Felix recognized, and though there was no one in sight, from the looks of it, the person had been playing just till the last minute.
