Chapter 232: Chapter 232: Skewers
In the afternoon, the father and daughter went to the military base. Gu Chunhai didn’t go inside; he just dropped Gu Lingling off at the entrance and left, agreeing to pick her up in two hours.
Gu Lingling first went to Liu Yating’s house. The two sisters were sitting there, staring at each other. When Gu Lingling arrived, Liu Yaxin excitedly ran over to her.
"What’s going on?" Gu Lingling asked.
"The military base is organizing a Spring Festival Gala, and this little girl insists on participating. She’s pestering me to come up with a program for her, but I have no idea what to do!" Liu Yating glared at Liu Yaxin, "Not only that, she even secretly signed me up too."
It really infuriated her.
Actually, every year at the end of the year, the military organizes a Spring Festival Gala. Most of the programs are put on by the families, the base’s performing soldiers, and some warriors.
And they’ve been choosing programs since November to prepare.
There’s not much time left until the new year, so can they really prepare in time now?
But the names have already been submitted, and if the two of them don’t show up, their parents will be embarrassed too.
Because of this, Liu Yaxin got a good scolding from Liu Yating.
You know, it’s really something for those soldiers to believe a little girl’s words, Liu Yating thought exasperatedly.
Yet her father, the political commissar, was full of praise when he heard about it, saying that their Liu Yaxin was bold, and her courage was commendable for her age. He even wanted her as an older sister to learn from her.
Learn what? Learn to act first and report later?
"Actually, it’s a good thing," Gu Lingling said with a chuckle, "participating in these programs is a good training opportunity for you guys too."
At least in the future, you won’t be nervous on stage.
"What’s so good about it? We don’t even have a program." Liu Yating pouted; she was worried sick about it.
"Sister Lingling, do you have any good ideas?" Liu Yaxin pouted, almost in tears, having been scolded by her sister every day lately.
"Let me think about it." Gu Lingling put the couplet on the table and started pondering carefully for them.
"How about dancing and singing?" Gu Lingling tilted her head and asked.
"I can’t sing at all, I’m tone-deaf," Liu Yating said with a grimace.
Gu Lingling gave Liu Yating a scornful look. It’s not that she can’t sing; it’s just that her voice leans a bit on the neutral side, unlike the sweet voices that are trendy now.
Does she think I don’t know? Liu Yating actually sounds great when she sings.
"Oh, I got it! We could do this." Gu Lingling suddenly thought of silly stage plays from the future and smiled.
"What? What? Tell us quickly." Liu Yating and Liu Yaxin looked at Gu Lingling with stars in their eyes.
"I imagine there’ll be lots of kids coming to watch the show," Gu Lingling squinted her eyes and said, "so you two could prepare a children’s song medley."
"What children’s song?" Liu Yaxin asked.
"You want me to sing children’s songs?" Liu Yating felt her intelligence was being insulted.
"Don’t be hasty," Gu Lingling chided, "We’ll do a children’s song medley."
With time running short, this was the only thing she could come up with—a medley of children’s songs to get the kids to join in and sing along. It would definitely liven up the atmosphere.
"A medley?" It was the first time Liu Yating had heard this term. "Just singing several children’s songs one after another."
Gu Lingling explained with a smile, "Your voice has a neutral tone, and Yaxin’s voice is sweet. We can pick a few songs that suit your styles and string them together."
With that explanation, Liu Yating no longer rejected the idea, and the two of them started listening intently.
In the end, they got so engrossed in the discussion that Gu Lingling forgot about the time.
It wasn’t until Yang Yunhai knocked on the door that she remembered she had forgotten the time she was supposed to meet with her dad.
