Chapter 60: I don’t need your help
Arden groaned under the mistwraith’s attack.
Hearing him, Jaden looked at Arden from the corner of his eye. He turned towards Selina and spoke gravely.
"We have to finish them fast."
Selina nodded, jumped a few steps back, and dashed toward the mistwraith attacking Jaden.
Jaden understood what she wanted to do and fired [Water Bullet ★] at the other two mistwraiths.
Pew... Pew...
Selina reached him and both of them attacked a single mistwraith together. The mistwraith tried to continue its savage attacks, but the two of them didn’t let it.
Jaden stepped forward and used the [Gust Step ★] with [Shattering Fist ★] on the waist, blowing away a large section, and Selina used wind magic to dash and swung her sword at the mistwraith’s neck, slicing it from its glassy body.
They did all of that within a few moments and moved towards the next mistwraith.
Navin used his shield to defend himself from the onslaught of the two mistwraiths while Shelly killed the third one.
"How long is it going to take?" He shouted as his hands were going numb under the continuous attacks.
He looked at Shelly from the corner of his eye, just in time to see her use lightning magic to increase the explosiveness of her attacks.
Tsh... Tsh...
Her daggers crackled with the lightning as she used wind magic to propel herself towards the mistwraith. The mistwraith clawed at her, but she jumped and used wind magic to increase her jump height.
She plummeted down at the mistwraith as her daggers fell on its head as if heavenly punishment. The mistwraith exploded into bits.
"That’s a maid?" Navin muttered with wide eyes as Shelly dashed to help him.
Arden pulled at the string of his bow and continued to shoot at the mistwraiths.
Psss... Psss... Psss...
Still, his arrows only ended up forming small, cobweb-like cracks on the glassy bodies of the mistwraiths before Jamie, who stood before him with both of his swords, slicing through the air, with claw marks covering his armour.
Seeing Jamie’s predicament Arden bit his lower lip and mumbled.
"It’s all happening because of me... just like back then, it’s always me... why is it always me? What crime have I ever committed? Why me? Why me?"
He continued to mumble and Jamie, who could hear bits of it, cursed loudly.
"Oi, you bastard! What the fuck are you crying about, you bitch? Help me out or I’ll kill you before these sex dolls!"
Arden looked at Jamie and heaved a sigh before shooting another arrow.
"Hit them in one place!" Jamie suggested as he hacked and slashed at one mistwraith then used lightning magic to dash towards another, keeping all three of them busy.
Arden followed his suggestion and began shooting his arrows at the single place; however, it was proving to be way more difficult than he had initially thought.
At the same time, Selina and Jaden finished the two mistwraiths they were fighting, and Selina dashed towards Navin and Shelly while Jaden dashed towards Arden and Jamie.
Woosh... Woosh... Woosh...
Jamie danced between the three mistwraiths with a wide grin on his face and sweat glistening across his skin; his armour was full of claw marks and was barely hanging on, but he appeared to be enjoying the predicament he was in.
Right then, a mistwraith leapt at him while the other two attacked him from the sides. Jamie’s smile faltered as he cursed under his breath.
"Shit!"
He raised his swords to attack the one leaping at him and twisted his body to the left, dodging the claw of the mistwraith at his right side. But the one on the left clawed at him and tore off the silver plates on his left arm.
"Ugh!" A groan escaped his lips as the claws sank into his arm and scraped his skin, drawing blood.
"Ardy! What are you doing?" he shouted furiously as he took a step back and looked at him from the corner of his eye.
Arden stood with three fire arrows lodged in his bow and loosened the string.
The three cut through the air and hit a single mistwraith in the chest, killing it.
"Haha! That was good!"
He grinned and raised his swords to attack once again but right then Jaden appeared beside him and attacked the mistwraith on the left.
"The fuck are you doing?" Jamie questioned furiously as he attacked the second one.
Ssssh...
Jaden swung at the mistwraith and answered with a frown. "Helping you?"
Jamie scowled at him.
"Help? When the fuck did I ask for help?"
Jaden shook his head and swung at the mistwraith, killing it and instead of answering Jamie, he just glanced at him and stepped towards Arden.
Jamie also didn’t question anymore and killed the mistwraith before letting out a loud curse.
"FUCK!"
He picked up the spirit core and walked towards Jaden with a furious look as he asked.
"Why did you do it?"
Jaden looked at him with a frown and answered.
"I saw you in trouble so I came to help you."
Jaden gritted his teeth and spat on the ground.
"Don’t treat me like a cripple, Jaden. I don’t need your help."
Jaden’s frown deepened as he asked in puzzlement.
"What are you talking about?"
Jamie rubbed his forehead before adding in a low voice.
"Nothing, forget it."
He stepped towards Arden, and Jaden pointed his finger towards Jamie. His mana flared, and light elementals began to gather as his fingertip before they turned into [Soothing Ray ★] and hit Jamie, healing him.
Everyone except Shelly, Selina and Jaden were tired, so they fell onto their butt; however, just as they sat down, the slab descended and moved towards the next one.
Jaden used his spells to heal everyone’s wounds and fatigue before moving towards the next slab, which was similar to the one before.
They cleared the sixth slab much more easily than the fifth one and stepped towards the seventh one.
