Chapter 381: Chapter 381: Bring Them To Safe Place
"Calvin, go get William," Daniel said without looking up.
Calvin hesitated for a moment, but didn’t dare go against him.
The middle-aged man looked excited when he heard that.
But Daniel was growing impatient. He stood up and said he needed to use the washroom.
The middle-aged man didn’t stop him. Instead, he told the waiter to show Daniel the way.
As soon as Daniel entered the washroom, he rushed to the last cubicle and found the Smiths couple tied up with both hands and feet.
He frowned but didn’t say anything. Instead, he pulled out his phone and called Chantelle.
"My dear wife, how could you leave your husband all alone?" he said.
"You’re not a child. Why do you keep calling me?" Chantelle replied, clearly annoyed. She was busy looking for the bombs and didn’t appreciate the interruption.
"I miss you..." Daniel said softly as he tore the tape off the Smiths couple’s mouths. He quickly signaled them to stay silent.
Paolo was about to call for help, but Daniel pulled out a gun. He spun it once around his finger, then aimed it straight at Paolo’s head.
Paolo was stunned and he didn’t dare move.
"Just focus on your task. The kids are at home. If anything happens to them, I won’t forgive you," Chantelle said coldly.
Chantelle had already guessed Daniel was up to something and didn’t want her to get involved. He made sure the kids kept her busy at the base and even asked Stephanie to give her a sedative.
Still, she understood it was because he was worried about her safety. She wasn’t mad. Instead, she called Calvin, got the restaurant’s location, and secretly slipped out of the base through another door.
Chantelle was worried that Trenton might find the kids at the base and use them as hostages. But she couldn’t stay. Daniel and Calvin were in danger, and she had to act fast.
The restaurant was heavily guarded by Trenton’s men. She knew she couldn’t just walk out. So, she decided to stay and finish the mission before returning to her children.
Daniel had promised her everything was secure. He said Trenton would never get into the base. That gave her some relief.
In the washroom, Chantelle knocked out a waitress. She changed into the waitress’s clothes, did her makeup, and put on colorful contact lenses. With the disguise, no one could recognize her.
She had already checked the restaurant earlier. The guards looked like new hires. If she blended through the crowd as a waitress, no one would notice her.
Trenton must have hidden bombs somewhere in the restaurant. Chantelle had to find them before time ran out.
However, the place was huge, and it was lunchtime, packed with people. She struggled to move around without drawing attention, slipping between Trenton’s men and regular customers.
"Who are you? Why did you kidnap us?" Paolo asked in a trembling voice. He looked terrified. Ever since losing the election and getting caught up in the human trafficking issue, he’d been through a lot. But this was the first time he really felt scared for his life.
"I didn’t kidnap you," Daniel patiently explained. "It was Trenton. He tricked both of us into coming here. He’s planning to blow up the place and kill us all, then blame your enemies so they’ll stop bothering him."
Paolo already knew what kind of person Trenton was after what had happened before. So he believed Daniel. Trenton was exactly the type to pull something like this.
But what confused Paolo was why Daniel went through all this trouble to save them.
"What do you want?" Paolo’s wife, Winnie Rossi, asked.
"All the research and results from Trenton’s biological lab," Daniel said bluntly. He didn’t bother to sugarcoat it.
"What?" Paolo was stunned. His eyes widened. He had spent over ten years working on those experiments. How could he just hand them over to Daniel?
"Well, looks like you both value the lab results more than your lives," Daniel said flatly. He bent down and picked up the masking tape from the floor.
Winnie panicked. Daniel wasn’t someone she could deal with easily. She gave in right away. "Okay, okay. We’ll give everything to you."
"Are you out of your mind?" Paolo shouted. "Do you even know how much those lab results are worth? After the pandemic, the vaccine profits are massive! We’ll lose everything if we hand them over!"
Daniel raised a finger to his lips, gesturing for Paolo to shut his mouth.
Paolo quickly looked away. Daniel was smiling, but there was something terrifying behind that smile.
"I don’t care! Money means nothing to me. You can stay, but I’m leaving," Winnie said sharply. She knew she had to be smart in a situation like this.
"I’ll give you five seconds to decide," Daniel said, glancing at the timer on his phone.
The seconds ticked by. Paolo and Winnie were drenched in sweat.
At the very last second, they gave in. They had no choice but to tell Daniel where the lab findings were stored.
Earlier, Daniel and Chantelle had found a lot of drugs in Trenton’s lab. But they couldn’t find the special remedy for Chantelle. That’s when they realized Paolo must have hidden the real results somewhere else.
Daniel sent his men to search Trenton’s lab. He didn’t let Paolo and Winnie go until they found the lab results.
"Trenton’s men are everywhere. You’ll have to climb down from here. Someone will pick you up downstairs."
Paolo looked out the window. Thankfully, it was just the fifth floor.
Once he saw them climb out the window, Daniel called Chantelle right away.
"Mission complete."
"I also found the bombs. One’s placed in the middle of the restaurant, and the other is strapped to a middle-aged woman with her daughter."
"Bring them to a safe place," Daniel said.
"I can’t. Someone’s watching them. And the bomb’s hidden inside her belt. I don’t think she even knows she’s carrying explosives. Damn it! They knew we wouldn’t hurt civilians." Chantelle felt mad thinking about it.
Daniel frowned.
"They’re heading to the washroom now. A waiter is following them. I’m going after them," Chantelle said and quickly moved.
