Chapter 383: I Won’t Hurt You

Chapter 383: Chapter 383: I Won’t Hurt You

"Mr. Wilson let Kane lure Trenton to the base."

Calvin hadn’t agreed with Daniel’s plan earlier, but Daniel kept assuring him he controlled everything. They were on their way into the restaurant then, and there was no time to turn back to the base. In the end, Calvin had to trust him.

Now, worry gnawed at him. Daniel hadn’t gone back to the base after leaving the restaurant.

"So you’re saying Trenton has found the kids?" Chantelle’s voice rose in panic. She pressed harder on the gas, and the car sped up.

"Ms. Chantelle, please calm down. I believe Mr. Wilson has everything under control. I also sent some men back to the base just now," Calvin said, trying to reassure her.

Chantelle didn’t answer. She kept trying to call Kane and Stephanie, but neither of them picked up.

At the base, Stephanie looked up at the projector and saw that the virtual image of herself had been replaced by Trenton’s face.

Earlier, she had cut off all network and power to the base. Kane had also activated the signal-blocking system. Considering the situation, Trenton shouldn’t have been able to find them.

But somehow, he had broken in and controlled the situation. His face filled the screen, and it was only a matter of time before he found them.

"Steph, do you miss me?" Trenton asked with a wide, happy smile.

Railer and Kane had just put on the invisibility cloak, so Trenton could only see Stephanie.

Stephanie sat upright, trying to look calm. She pretended to cry, but no tears fell. She was as stubborn as Chantelle.

"Steph, you’re older now. You must remember me, right? I always gave you cotton candy, remember?"

Hearing his words, Stephanie thought about the past. She couldn’t understand why people close to her always ended up turning against each other.

"Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you. I’m sick and need some medicine, but your mom refuses to give it to me. Can you find it and give it to me in secret?"

Stephanie glanced at Railer and Kane. Kane pulled his invisibility cloak down slightly, showing his face. He looked at her and shook his head.

Steph, talk to him and stall for time. Daddy will be here to save us soon. But why is he taking so long?

Kane became worried. If Daniel didn’t come soon, Trenton would find them.

"Steph, it seems you don’t want to see me. In that case, I’m coming to find you," Trenton uttered with a threatening tone.

Right after he said that, a loud bang echoed as the basement door was kicked open.

Stephanie panicked and began to tremble.

One of the basement doors was made of glass. From the front, it looked like a wall, but anyone on the other side could see through it.

Through the glass, Stephanie saw not only Trenton but also Cameron. He was dragging a man covered in blood.

It was Xander.

Stephanie gasped, and a faint sob escaped her mouth. She had been the one to call Xander for help. If it hadn’t been for him, Trenton would have broken into the basement long ago.

"Damn! How could they do this to him?" Kane had still been hoping Xander would save them. He never expected Trenton to catch him instead.

Trenton must have beaten him badly.

Will he die?

Anger burned in Kane’s chest. He marched to the console table, ready to open the door and face Trenton alone.

But Railer stopped him. "We still have the last door. Trenton might not be able to break through. You said Daddy is coming back for us. As long as he’s here, we’ll be safe."

"But what if Daddy can’t make it back? Are we just going to watch him die?" Kane said, shoving Railer aside.

"Trenton brought your godfather here on purpose so we’d come out and surrender. We can’t fall for his trap. We can’t go out now." Railer gripped Kane’s hand tightly, refusing to let go.

While they argued, another loud noise echoed. The basement door swung open.

Stephanie ran to Xander and hugged him, tears streaming down her face. "Godfather..."

Xander was badly beaten, breathing hard. He forced a weak smile at her. "I’m useless. I can’t protect you..."

"No... You’re the best in my eyes. I shouldn’t have called you..." Stephanie cried.

Trenton was getting impatient. He told someone to pull Stephanie away and walked into the basement.

He glanced around, then nodded with a smile. "Well, well... such a hidden place. I wouldn’t have found it if you hadn’t opened the door yourself."

"Please, I beg you. Take my godfather to the hospital now," Stephanie pleaded, dropping to her knees.

Under the invisibility cloak, Railer and Kane clenched their fists. Both were furious, especially Kane. He gripped a fruit knife, ready to lunge at Trenton, but Railer kept holding him back.

"Steph, I’m sick too. I can’t even carry you now," Trenton said.

"What medicine do you need? I don’t see any here," Stephanie asked, quickly standing up.

"Where is Kane? And where is Railer? Where are they?" Trenton suddenly asked. He had already sent his men to search for them, but they found nothing.

"They left. Railer took my invisibility cloak and ran away, and Kane went after him," Stephanie said, sobbing as she wiped her tears.

"Really? Which exit did they take? Why didn’t I see them?"

"There’s a hidden door in the wall ahead. They went out that way," Stephanie said, pointing to a wall outside the basement.

Trenton told two of his men to check, then followed them out.

Stephanie led them to the wall and pressed a rock that jutted out from its surface several times.

In an instant, sharp arrows shot out from all directions.

Trenton’s men couldn’t dodge in time. Several were killed instantly as arrows pierced their throats.

Not only that, the stones on both sides of the wall began to rumble and shift.

Stephanie was ready. The moment she pressed the rock, she crouched low and crawled to Xander’s side.

Xander, on the verge of passing out, burst into tears when he saw her.

Trenton realized too late that he had walked into a trap. When he and his men turned back toward the research site, the entrance was already locked.

Worse, their electronic devices, even their flashlights, were useless because of magnetic interference. They were swallowed by complete darkness, and the stones around them kept shifting. From time to time, Trenton heard his men’s screams as they were crushed by moving stones or struck by hidden weapons.

He shoved Cameron aside, who was shielding him, and went to where Stephanie had been lying, but she was gone.
