Chapter 369: Chapter 369: Where Do You Think Trenton Hid?
When she finished the pancakes, Daniel cleared the table and left.
Chantelle thought about calling him back, but didn’t know what to say. In the end, she let him go.
Later that evening, Daniel came back with the kids. As they neared her room, he heard someone crying inside.
He paused in front of the door and told the children, "Go rest in your rooms first. We’ll visit Mommy tomorrow."
The three children were exhausted after playing all day at Philip’s place. Kane and Railer let the butler take them to their rooms.
Stephanie followed them at first, but then ran back and held Daniel’s sleeve, asking him to squat down. She whispered softly, "I think Mommy likes Daddy more."
Daniel smiled and gently patted her head.
"Why do you think that?" he asked.
Stephanie tilted her head, unsure how to explain. "Mommy talks to you differently."
Daniel didn’t want his daughter to get involved in adult matters. He carried her back to her room.
When he returned to Chantelle’s room, the sound of crying had stopped. After a while, he even heard her laughing.
Looks like I’ve underestimated this Xander guy,
he thought. With a heavy heart, Daniel knocked on the door. After a few minutes of silence, Chantelle finally said, "Come in."
When he walked in, he saw her sitting on the sofa by the window. Her eyes were red, but she had already wiped away the tears.
He glanced at the phone on the table and asked, "Lord Trenton has lost his power. Are you happy?"
Chantelle nodded. She didn’t seem as emotional now as when she had cried earlier.
"I thought you’d be so happy you’d cry," Daniel said while staring at her face. She just gave him a faint smile.
"I was tormented by him to the point I nearly lost my mind. Thinking that he won’t be able to cause me trouble anymore... it makes me feel relieved. So, yes, I’m happy." Her eyes filled with tears again, but she forced them back.
Daniel’s face darkened. His fingers tapped nervously on his lap.
"Did you come here for something?" Chantelle asked quickly.
After finding out that Xander was safe and feeling the relief of Trenton’s downfall, Chantelle felt lighter. She started thinking about her future. She didn’t really focus on Daniel. She had asked him without much thought.
Daniel felt her cold treatment. Without saying much, he walked over to her bed and took off his shirt.
Chantelle quickly grabbed his arm. "What are you doing?"
"Going to sleep," he said, shaking off her hand.
He was wearing the same shirt she had taken off earlier. Seeing the wounds and scars on his body, Chantelle suddenly felt guilty.
Chantelle stood there, staring at him. She forgot to stop him. Daniel thought she would come over and stop him, but she just kept looking at his wounds. His anger faded slightly.
He tapped her forehead with his finger.
Chantelle snapped back to reality and glared at him. She quickly grabbed his hands to stop him from unbuckling his belt. "Go back to your room to sleep!"
Daniel looked at her and held her hand.
He slowly moved their joined hands from his waist up to his chest, right over his heart.
She could feel his strong heartbeat under her palm.
"Kane spilled water on my bed. I can only sleep here," Daniel said as he pulled her to sit beside him.
Chantelle didn’t believe him. She pulled her hand away. "This villa is huge. There must be other rooms."
"There are maids and doctors in those rooms. I don’t have anywhere else to sleep. I can only stay here." Daniel started taking off his pants again.
Chantelle could only cover her eyes. She couldn’t stop him anymore.
"My wife is shy? Let me help you take off your clothes," Daniel said as he reached for her buttons.
Feeling the warmth from his body, Chantelle dodged and slapped his hands away. "Don’t mess around."
She felt a little relieved when she saw he was wearing a pair of knee-length shorts. But it still felt strange seeing him like that. Daniel noticed her expression and reached to take off the shorts too.
"Stop moving and just sleep."
Chantelle quickly stopped him and climbed into the bed.
Daniel smiled and lay down next to her.
He pulled her into his arms.
"Talk with me for a while," he whispered.
She pushed him away. "Fine, let’s talk. But don’t touch me."
"Okay," Daniel said with a nod.
"What do you want to talk about?" Chantelle asked softly, keeping her eyes closed.
With her eyes shut, her senses became sharper. She could feel his breath, his hand resting on her waist, and their knees touching.
She moved a little farther away. She only felt comfortable when there was some space between them.
Daniel felt that she moved away but didn’t try to stop her.
"Where do you think Trenton hid?" he asked.
"He had probably returned to Kastovia," she replied while looking into his eyes.
Chantelle and Daniel were thinking the same thing. Trenton had suffered a big defeat in Carcosa. He would probably rush back to his country to plan his next move.
They needed to get back quickly and stay ahead of him.
But Daniel still had the virus in his body. If they all left, what would happen to him? Without the medicine, he could die.
"You should go back. I’ll stay and wait for William," Chantelle said.
Trenton still needed that special cure, even if he went home. But right now, William was locked up by Daniel’s men.
Their best option now was for Chantelle to stay behind and use William to draw Trenton out. It would be ideal if Carcosa’s authorities could arrest him.
Meanwhile, Daniel needed to return to Easthan as soon as possible to make arrangements with his country. It was also a safety measure in case Trenton escaped. That man could easily use Daniel’s illness to kill him.
Daniel said nothing. He understood this plan was more reasonable, but he didn’t want to leave Chantelle in danger. He also didn’t want her dealing with Xander any longer.
"I know Carcosa better. It’s safer for me to stay. You need to go back to Philip’s lab for treatment. You’ll be in danger until William makes that cure," Chantelle said gently when she saw how hesitant he was.
"I’ll stay. Ashton will manage things in Easthan," Daniel said firmly after a moment of silence.
That made Chantelle feel annoyed. "Why are you being so stubborn? You’re sick. The only way you’ll survive is if you go home. If Trenton comes after you here, you won’t even be able to fight back!"
