Chapter 8: BLATANT DISINTEREST
I’M A Dominant Omega— I should be able to control my pheromones.
Wonyoung took a deep breath, and then he did his best to regulate his pheromones until he couldn’t smell them in the air anymore.
Whew.
Yep, my skills as a Dominant Omega haven’t gone anywhere.
"Sunbae-nim, I’ve managed my pheromones now."
"I can tell, Hoobae-nim."
"I’m sorry if it made you uncomfortable."
"It didn’t, so don’t worry about it."
"Ah, yes. You’re a Dominant Alpha. Of course, you’re not going to be affected by my pheromones easily."
"No, I get affected by your pheromones," Yun Dujun said bluntly. "I just chose to control it right now because your body is unwell."
"What does that mean?"
"If you had a natural heat cycle and not one induced by an illegal chemical, I would have helped you in a way both of us are familiar with."
Oh?
Oh.
It was true that Wonyoung’s memories of Yun Dujun were blurry.
But because of what the Alpha just said, he remembered their ’spicy’ moments.
Dujun Sunbae-nim would help me with my heat, and I would stay with him during his rut. That’s how we ended up conceiving Yun Yuhyun just a few months after we signed our agreement.
Wait.
Is Dujun Sunbae-nim flirting with me?
"It’s stated in our contract that we’re obliged to help each other during your heat cycle and my rut, after all."
Ah, of course.
The Alpha was just being responsible.
And I’m being delusional here.
"So, if you still need help and you think your body can handle it..."
"I’m fine now, Sunbae-nim. Thank you for the offer, though."
"Alright. Then, should we talk now? We have a lot of things to discuss, right?"
Ah, finally.
Wonyoung was glad that Yun Dujun had brought it up first.
Yep, this isn’t really the time to lust after this man.
"Sunbae-nim, you have a lot of explaining to do."
"Yes, but let me feed you first."
"I’m not hungry."
"You are, Hoobae-nim."
Wonyoung opened his mouth to insist that he wasn’t hungry, but his stomach grumbled quite loudly.
Traitor...
"The doctors have already pumped out the heat-inducing chemical in your body, and you’ve had plenty of rest already. So, you don’t have to stay the night here," Yun Dujun said, standing up while looking at his watch. "Wait for me— I’ll take care of your discharge papers."
***
HMM?
Wonyoung, while sitting in the passenger seat, noticed that Yun Dujun’s knuckles were red and bruised.
He then remembered what happened when he hid under the counter earlier.
I didn’t hear anything, but I’m sure the gangster woke up and Dujun Sunbae-nim beat him to pulp until he lost consciousness again.
"Sunbae-nim, you didn’t kill that ahjussi, did you?"
Yun Dujun’s eyes remained glued to the road while driving. "Of course not. I was even nice enough to call an ambulance for him."
"Do I not need to go to the police station and give a statement?"
"Don’t worry about it— I already took care of everything. You also don’t have to worry about seeing that gangster ever again. I’ll make sure he’ll rot in jail for what he did to you."
Oh.
Well, Yun Dujun had the money, power, and influence to ’take care’ of things like that.
I’m just relieved that I don’t have to go to the police station. I don’t want to ruin my chances of becoming a foster parent.
"Thank you, Sunbae-nim. About the damages I caused to the convenience store..."
"I already paid for everything, and I also offered compensation to the elderly couple who owns the store," Yun Dujun said. "But they turned it down. They are more worried about you, Hoobae-nim."
Aww.
My bosses are really good people.
Wonyoung made a mental note to call the elderly couple later to assure them that he was fine.
"Are you still going to go back there to work?"
"If my bosses still want me there despite the ruckus that I caused, then yes— I won’t quit my job."
Yun Dujun glanced at him when the traffic lights changed color. "Do you really need to work there, Hoobae-nim? That neighborhood doesn’t seem like a good one."
To be fair, the Alpha was correct.
The establishments in the neighborhood I live in don’t have job vacancies, so I had to find one in a different area... oh, wait.
"Sunbae-nim, how did you know where I’m working?"
"Well, it’s easy to find people when you have the resources."
Right.
I shouldn’t have asked.
"Sunbae-nim, why did you only show up now?" Wonyoung asked carefully. "Han Myung said you were informed as soon as I woke up. I know that you were in a locked-in filming. But was it too much to even call me?"
"I’m sorry, Hoobae-nim. I was busy."
Too busy to call me, huh?
It was even more disheartening that Yun Dujun didn’t offer more explanation.
He was busy— and that’s it.
"But I’ve made sure you were given the best treatment."
"I appreciate it, Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said in a dull voice, almost sounding like a rookie actor reading a script instead of acting the scene. "I recovered fast because the doctors and all the medical staff members were attentive to me."
"That’s good to hear."
A silence ensued.
It wasn’t awkward.
But Wonyoung could feel that both he and Yun Dujun were avoiding addressing the elephant in the room.
They had many things they needed to discuss, and yet none of them knew where to start.
When are we going to talk about Yun Yuhyun? And how do I bring up the fact that I want us to stay married for a few more months? Do I tell Sunbae-nim about my plan to adopt a child?
But then again, maybe Yun Dujun wouldn’t be that interested in his life.
This is the man who didn’t even bother calling me because he was too busy, after all.
Hence, Wonyoung just kept his mouth shut.
