Wang Yu
Chapter 3: Gone Away
Her gaze was fixed on the corpses and remains of the three burly men, and she slumped to the ground, two streams of tears welling up in her eyes.
At first, she sobbed softly, but as if reminded of some painful memory, her cries suddenly grew louder.
Like a dam bursting, her wails shattered the silence of the wasteland once more, a heart-wrenching lament, pouring out the hardships and injustices of the world to the heavens.
Time seemed to pass without notice, then suddenly the crying stopped.
The girl stood up again, her small fists clenched tightly. The grime and blood on her face had been washed away by her tears, revealing once more a delicate and pretty face, though a hint of something new seemed to have appeared in her large eyes.
Suddenly, she dashed towards another grayish-white boulder not far ahead.
Beneath the boulder, a mangled corpse lay in a pool of blood, barely recognizable as the burly man. He was long dead. A short, muddy corpse, probably the horse-faced man, lay several yards away.
As for the Qi-named Taoist, he had been directly blasted apart by the tall youth's punch from afar, leaving no remains. Only some scattered pieces of flesh and blood could be seen nearby.
The girl leaped to the foot of the boulder, and as she raised her hands, her fingernails suddenly grew several inches long and turned greenish. She swung them wildly at the burly man's corpse.
The sound of tearing air filled the space as streaks of cyan claw light shot out, striking the corpse.
Blood splattered everywhere, and the already mangled corpse was torn to shreds in the blink of an eye.
Still seemingly unsatisfied, she opened her mouth and spat out a stream of emerald flames, turning the shredded meat into ashes, pulverizing the bones.
Then, she subjected the horse-faced man's corpse to the same treatment before finally stopping.
Having done all this, the girl's knees buckled, and she slumped to the ground, panting heavily.
The little bit of magical power that had just returned to her body was exhausted once more.
"Father, Mother, Elder Brother, Second Sister... one of the Blood Saber Society's evil thugs is finally dead. Though I didn't kill him myself, some of your revenge has been taken. Don't worry, as long as I have a breath left, I will one day storm Blood Mang Mountain and make the Blood Saber Society disappear from this world," the girl muttered, calming herself slightly, then kneeling down in a certain direction.
As she said this, the girl's eyes reddened again, on the verge of tears, but she forcefully suppressed them.
"Don't cry. Father said that people who cry often don't grow up. I need to grow up quickly!"
After a long while, the girl finally choked back the urge to cry and stood up again, glancing at the storage pouches left behind by the three burly men.
She looked disgusted, but after a moment's hesitation, she picked them all up and put them away.
As the sun moved westward, the sky grew dim, the wind gradually picked up, howling mournfully, and the temperature dropped a few degrees.
Looking around at the desolate surroundings, the girl felt a little scared and instinctively curled up her body, leaning a little closer to the only other living person, the tall youth.
After delivering that punch, the tall youth had returned to his previous vacant state, standing woodenly in place, staring down at his feet, as if he hadn't heard or seen anything the girl had just done.
"This... Stone Brother..." The girl didn't dare get too close and hesitantly called out softly.
The tall youth didn't respond.
"Stone Brother, my name is Liu Le'er. Thank you for killing those three bandits just now. Although you're also human, my father said that there are good people among humans too," the girl said timidly.
The tall youth moved slightly, finally showing some reaction. He raised his head a little and looked at Liu Le'er.
His pupils reflected the girl's figure, and a hint of light seemed to flicker in his vacant eyes, but then they became dull again, though his eyes remained fixed on Liu Le'er.
This startled Liu Le'er, and she quickly took a few steps back.
But the tall youth just stared at her blankly, without any other movement or change in his stance.
Liu Le'er breathed a sigh of relief, becoming even more certain that the youth had something wrong with his mind. Her courage gradually grew, and she tried to get a little closer, curiously examining the person before her.
In her previous panic, she hadn't had time to look closely. Now, getting a little closer, Liu Le'er could see more clearly.
The youth was tall and had long fingers. His muscles weren't particularly large, but he gave off a sense of containing endless power.
Although his eyes were blank and listless, his pupils were pitch-black. Looking at them for too long felt like one's soul would be sucked in. The exposed skin was dark and extremely smooth. After the fierce battle just now, not a single mark remained.
The cyan clothes he wore looked ordinary, but even after being struck by lightning and cut by sabers, they hadn't suffered any damage.
All of this, plus the fact that the youth had swallowed the unusual blood mist in one gulp, indicated that he was definitely not an ordinary person, let alone a mortal.
How could a mortal kill three cultivators with magical tools in just a few moves?
The girl stared blankly at the tall youth, who still didn't react. She became even more relaxed. Perhaps it was a childlike innocence blossoming after surviving a calamity. She walked around the tall youth.
The youth's eyes never left Liu Le'er, as if there was something about her that attracted him.
Perhaps because the youth's appearance had allowed her to escape a calamity and had even helped her kill three enemies, the girl found the tall youth more and more amiable.
"Huh!"
Liu Le'er suddenly exclaimed softly. On the tall youth's chest, a dark green trinket was vaguely visible, crystal clear and translucent. She didn't know what it was.
She wanted to lift his clothes to take a closer look, but she was a little afraid.
Just then, the wind around them grew stronger and stronger. Dark clouds surged in the sky, hanging low and black, making the surrounding light even darker.
Rumble!
A thick bolt of lightning tore through the clouds, illuminating half the sky and creating a huge clap of thunder. A torrential rain began to pour down.
"Ah!"
Liu Le'er cried out in alarm, instinctively hiding under the tall youth's body, hugging his leg, her small body trembling.
As a demon fox, she had a strange fear of the thunder.
A glimmer of light seemed to appear in the tall youth's eyes again, but it quickly faded. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, he bent down slightly, his tall body shielding Liu Le'er from the endless wind and rain.
The girl felt a warmth well up in her heart. At this moment, she was no longer afraid of the wind, rain, and lightning. Instead, she felt incredibly safe, a feeling like when she was in her father's arms.
The rain came quickly and left quickly. Before long, the clouds parted and the rain stopped, and a fresh scent of vegetation filled the air.
Liu Le'er shook off the raindrops on her body, giggled, and took the tall youth's hand, brushing the raindrops off his clothes.
She didn't know what kind of material his cyan clothes were made of, but the raindrops that fell on them beaded up like water on a lotus leaf, unable to soak in at all.
The tall youth showed no reaction to the girl's actions, as always, but he didn't object either, letting her do as she pleased.
"By the way, Stone Brother, Le'er still doesn't know your name?" Liu Le'er took the tall youth's hand and tried to get him to sit down.
The tall youth actually obeyed and slowly sat down, but he still didn't say anything, as always.
"Stone Brother, why did you appear here?"
"Stone Brother, that punch was so powerful! Can you teach Le'er?"
"Stone Brother..."
Liu Le'er was a little unwilling to give up. She tried several ways to communicate with him, but no matter what she said, the youth didn't react. She couldn't help but feel disappointed again.
"Stone Brother, although I don't know who you are, you killed the Blood Saber Society's people. Let's leave this place together," the girl thought for a while and finally made up her mind. She grabbed the tall youth's large hand and pleaded.
Although the tall youth was dazed, after Liu Le'er talked and gestured for a long while, he seemed to understand something. He blinked his eyes and finally followed the girl slowly.
Dusk was approaching, and the setting sun was like blood.
The entire wasteland was bathed in the afterglow, becoming a little golden and brilliant.
One tall and one small figure walked farther and farther in the direction of the setting sun, and the sound of Liu Le'er's happy voice could be faintly heard in the wind.
"Stone Brother, I know you're very strong, but there are still many bad people in the Blood Saber Society!"
"It's getting late. You must be hungry."
"When we leave here, Le'er will catch some wild birds and roast them for you to eat. Le'er's cooking is pretty good!"
"Stone Brother, from now on, Le'er will treat you like my own brother!"
