Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Playing Cards
Although Mr. Fu usually doesn’t manage anything at home, Mrs. Fu isn’t very afraid of him.
But after all, he’s a man, and if he gets angry, Mrs. Fu will still be somewhat afraid of him.
At this moment, after hearing Mr. Fu’s words, she was immediately stunned.
She hadn’t expected that this old man would say such words to her.
This genuinely surprised Mrs. Fu.
But her daze lasted only a few seconds before she quickly came to her senses.
Upon hearing Mr. Fu say she harbored bad intentions in her belly.
Mrs. Fu, for the first time, did not lose her temper at Mr. Fu because of this.
After all, Mr. Fu had hit the nail on the head about what she was thinking.
Thinking about what she had to do later, if Mr. Fu was home with her, there was no way he wouldn’t see it.
Whatever she was about to do was right under Mr. Fu’s nose, and if it was discovered, he would definitely stop her.
This old man held onto principled thoughts.
He wouldn’t do anything morally shady at all.
If he found out that she was doing this, stealing clothes from her daughter-in-law’s wardrobe, he would surely stop her.
Mrs. Fu was instantly at a loss for words, her mind spinning rapidly, thinking she needed some sort of plan.
There are so many clothes in Jiang Xin’s wardrobe that if she doesn’t steal a couple to give to her niece from her maiden family, it’ll weigh heavily on her mind.
Simply put, it’s because she finds Jiang Xin disagreeable, so she wants to stir up some trouble for her.
Thinking about it, Mrs. Fu suddenly thought of a way to get Mr. Fu out of the house.
Mrs. Fu blinked, rubbed her head, and then, with a very hesitant tone, said to Mr. Fu:
"Old man, didn’t you say you had plans to go out today? We’ve finished breakfast, why aren’t you leaving yet?"
Last night, Mr. Fu had discussed with Mrs. Fu, saying he had made plans with friends from the neighboring village to play cards under the big willow tree at the village gate this morning.
They were short one person, and Mr. Fu was the missing player.
However, Mr. Fu is typically henpecked, so unless Mrs. Fu gives the okay, he doesn’t dare agree to his card friends.
If he went to play cards without Mrs. Fu’s permission and she found out, he would certainly be scolded harshly.
Otherwise, with Mrs. Fu’s fiery temper, she might as well strip him of his dignity.
Last night, after much persuasion, Mr. Fu finally got Mrs. Fu to agree to give him two hours’ leave to go play cards with his friends.
But early this morning, right after breakfast, Mr. Fu happily reminded Mrs. Fu about going out to play cards.
Mrs. Fu inexplicably messed up and straightforwardly rejected Mr. Fu’s request.
Everything she agreed to last night no longer counted.
This really infuriated Mr. Fu.
Had Mrs. Fu initially not agreed to Mr. Fu’s request, he wouldn’t have jumped up with rage.
The issue was that last night, Mrs. Fu clearly agreed with Mr. Fu, and upon knowing his wife consented, Mr. Fu promptly informed his card friends, and the game was set.
Now, if Mr. Fu bails on them, they really can’t find anyone to substitute him, leaving them short one player, isn’t this breaking one’s word?
What’s the reasoning behind doing things this way?
When Mr. Fu eventually goes out, if his card friends find out that it’s because he’s afraid of his wife that he doesn’t dare to go play cards, they’ll laugh him silly, won’t they?
Not only that, but his card friends might not invite him to play in the future, and just think of the joy he would lose!
There aren’t many entertainment activities in the village, and Mr. Fu’s only pastime is playing cards.
These people don’t play for stakes, it’s purely to pass the time and have some fun; it’s not a gambling scenario, so usually, family members approve.
However, Mrs. Fu has such a lousy personality; in other people’s eyes, playing cards is completely normal, but Mrs. Fu has an unusually strong sense of possession.
She thinks Mr. Fu can’t leave her sight; if he’s not under her watch, he’s surely gone out to commit mischief.
Even though Mrs. Fu has known Mr. Fu for years and knows he’s not like that, she just doesn’t want Mr. Fu to go out and play cards.
Her husband is honest, but he can’t resist the malicious temptation from other men’s wives.
What if during the card game, an alluring old lady from the next village maliciously tempts her husband? What then?
At her age, she doesn’t want any changes that would cause the whole village to laugh.
Therefore, it’s better to avoid trouble; simply not letting Mr. Fu go out to play cards avoids all the unnecessary worry and guessing, preventing a lot of hassle.
But how could Mrs. Fu possibly share these thoughts with Mr. Fu?
If Mr. Fu knew about her dirty thoughts, he would surely curse, saying Mrs. Fu didn’t trust his character.
Every time Mr. Fu suggests going to the village entrance to play cards, Mrs. Fu uses the excuse of unfinished farm work at home to refuse Mr. Fu’s idea.
Last night, when Mr. Fu said he wanted to play cards with friends at the village entrance the next morning and sought Mrs. Fu’s opinion.
Mrs. Fu’s first reaction was to open her mouth and, using the excuse of unfinished farm work, flatly refuse Mr. Fu.
Making Mr. Fu stay at home obediently, not going anywhere, and helping her with chores.
But the problem is that Mr. Fu hasn’t played cards in almost three months, feeling very stifled at home, and this isn’t the busy farming season; every household has no work.
Their family naturally has nothing, and they don’t even farm the land, so where’s the farm work?
Mr. Fu knew it was because Mrs. Fu didn’t want him to go out to play cards, so after a lot of persuasion, Mrs. Fu reluctantly agreed to give him two hours of leave.
In the end, he had no idea Mrs. Fu would change her mind last minute and prohibit him from going.
Mr. Fu originally thought that since he promised his card friends, he couldn’t break the promise. So Mr. Fu initially planned to reason with Mrs. Fu, and figured that if reasoning didn’t work, he would have a big argument with her.
Mrs. Fu is suffocatingly controlling; whose wife ever watches over their husband like this, not letting him go out? Besides, he’s not going out to do bad things; people need a breath of fresh air sometimes.
