Chapter 69: Chapter 6: Giant Snake 2
This world actually has connections to Norse mythology.
World Tree?
Is the Chessboard Realm a world on the World Tree? Wait! In her words, Ragnarok has already erupted! So, is this the world after Ragnarok?
Su Ziyu racked his brains trying to recall the Norse mythology he had read before.
Norse mythology is entirely different from other mythological systems. In Norse mythology, not even the gods are all-powerful, nor is the world eternal. Everything has its end.
When Ragnarok arrives, all things will reach their end!
Su Ziyu already found it hard to remember the detailed content of Ragnarok, but he knew that when Ragnarok came, most of the Divine Spirits in Norse mythology perished. Most of the gods in the Gods’ Realm, the Giant Realm, the Land of the Elves, Midgard, and the realm of the dead perished along with their worlds.
In the end, the World Tree was engulfed by flames like a red lotus, and all worlds collapsed in the blaze!
Su Ziyu still remembered the last segment, and he had seen two versions of this passage.
——"And so the world was destroyed!"
"Afterward, the Black Dragon ’Despair’—Nidhogg crawled out from the lowest layer of the World Tree, devouring and poisoning the remaining skeletons."
——"And so the world was destroyed!"
"Afterward, the Poison Dragon—Nidhogg rose from the pile of corpses, flying low and heavily across the earth, its black wings laden with skeletons. Soon it fell in a far-off land, disappearing into the bottomless Abyss at the edge of the cosmos."
This is the ending of Ragnarok.
Su Ziyu found it deeply impressive back then, because no other mythological ending was so brutal.
His mind was slightly chaotic.
Su Ziyu didn’t really know where he was now, but he was sure that the Chessboard Realm wasn’t on a planet; he had come to a universe that completely overturned his previous scientific understanding. This universe was based on a World Tree, and now that the World Tree had collapsed, he wasn’t sure where he was, possibly in some surviving plane’s crevice.
Norse mythology also mentions the birth of a new world, but the records are very scant, and Su Ziyu felt this was not the new world, because there was no White Queen in the new world.
Considering that the Space-Time Monitor System was constantly searching for the indescribable horrors, Su Ziyu felt that the depths of this world were beyond imagination!
Unable to understand it, he decided not to dwell on it.
After all, his stay in this world wouldn’t be long, and the most important thing now was to resolve the issue in the Dream Forest.
"Are you the White Queen’s priest?" Su Ziyu asked, "Can you take me to see her? The witches of the Dream Forest need her help!"
Dream Forest?
The beautiful priestess in front of him froze for a moment upon hearing this, murmuring, "Has something happened in the Land of the Elves too?"
What does she mean by "too"?
Su Ziyu’s heart sank, as he inquired, "Has something happened on the White Queen’s side as well?"
"It’s hard to explain." The beautiful priestess in front of him shook her head and said, "First, let’s deal with these Biters’ offspring. Later, we’ll take you to the Royal Capital."
The situation was worse than Su Ziyu imagined.
If something happened to the White Queen as well, he really didn’t know who else could solve the trouble in the Dream Forest.
No matter what, he’d better meet the White Queen first.
Su Ziyu followed behind the beautiful priestess, touching the giant snakes all over; she was burning their carcasses with flames because their carcasses would pollute the forest.
Very strange.
Some of these giant snakes could yield Source Power Value, while others did not at all. There were ten smaller giant snakes, and Su Ziyu gained three points of Source Power Value, seemingly all from those who could spray venom. It seemed that the venom-spraying giant snakes were different from the ordinary ones, as they had been polluted by some unknown existence.
Out of the ten smaller giant snakes, Su Ziyu took down six; one was killed by a half-giant, one was killed by an armored man, and the others were all killed by the beautiful priestess.
She knew magic.
Yet she wasn’t a witch, and Su Ziyu was a bit confused as to what a witch’s role was.
"Gained 5 points of Source Power Value."
The largest giant snake was over two hundred meters long, and beside its carcass was the man in silver armor, sitting on the ground and panting, seemingly wounded as well. The Warner Priestess mastered some peculiar magic, capable of summoning a kind of white flame that burned wildly upon contact with the giant snakes’ bodies but did not scorch the ground, merely reducing the snakes’ bodies to ashes.
The acquired Source Power Value was a bit less than expected.
This giant snake appeared massive, but in reality, its strength was akin to a super mutant; attributed to the Space-Time Monitor System’s classification, it would merely belong to the Legendary Level of beings.
"Witch’s person?" a deep male voice came.
"Mm." The Warner Priest standing next to Su Ziyu nodded and said, "He comes from the Land of the Elves. There’s trouble there too."
"Damn it." The man in silver armor stood, removing his helmet to reveal a handsome face with the same long golden hair, bearing a resemblance to the female priestess beside him; they likely shared some blood relation.
"I’m Dan." The Warner man’s stature was exceedingly tall, over two meters, and he pointed to the female priestess beside him, "This is Rebecca, my sister."
Many Divine Spirits in Norse mythology have giant bloodlines.
Before the Nordic Pantheon was born, giants already existed in this universe.
"Su Ziyu," Su Ziyu nodded, "You can call me Su."
The caravan’s people suffered heavy casualties.
Dan, the Warner, walked over to exchange a few words with the half-giant, then waved his hand toward the sky as if summoning something.
A sharp eagle’s cry echoed.
With a gust raising sand and dust, a giant eagle with wings spanning over twenty meters descended from the sky, its abdomen showing signs of a recent wound; there was a slightly festering injury visible.
"Let’s go," Rebecca lovingly caressed the giant eagle’s feathers as she spoke.
The wind howled.
Su Ziyu had flown on many planes, but it was his first time riding such a large eagle, and he couldn’t help but feel a little tense.
The physical strength of these two Warner people was truly formidable; they seemed fine riding on the eagle’s back, while Su Ziyu nervously grasped the eagle’s feathers, for he would surely die if he fell from this height.
The group traveled at quite a speed.
The dawn was just breaking.
Su Ziyu soon saw an extraordinarily majestic city, with city walls piled up with giant stones, standing dozens of meters high, and a wide river flowing outside the walls, alongside which a grand statue stood—a beautiful woman.
It wasn’t the White Queen; Su Ziyu gazed at her face, feeling it was very familiar.
"Who is that?" Su Ziyu asked.
Rebecca turned her head to glance at him, an expression of slight puzzlement on her face as she stated, "The Savior. A powerful witch. She carved out this world we reside in from the ruins after Ragnarok."
"Did the witches not tell you about this?"
The distance shortened.
Su Ziyu finally saw the statue clearly, and he shuddered involuntarily, murmuring, "It’s her..."
