Chapter 88: Chapter 5: Demon Hunter 3
The night was spent camping outside.
Su Ziyu hardly slept at all, and he was sure Van Helsing hadn’t slept either.
This Demon Hunter’s physical strength was formidable; the injuries sustained that night were nearly healed by the next day. Inside his luggage, Su Ziyu saw several bottles of oil, which seemed to be corpse oil collected that morning. Besides, Van Helsing’s luggage contained many strange bottles and jars. In comparison, Su Ziyu’s luggage was much simpler, deliberately prepared to avoid attracting attention.
"Tonight, we’re stopping at a big town," Van Helsing whispered in Su Ziyu’s ear. "I’ll take you to a good place then."
Melissa, who was nearby, seemed to have heard this but didn’t show any change in expression.
The morning went by quickly.
By noon, the group reached an abandoned village in the vicinity. It seemed like a serious plague outbreak had occurred in this world, as there was a large graveyard outside the village, and inside, it was desolate and dilapidated with no living people in sight.
"There seems to be something unclean here," Su Ziyu suddenly said.
He sensed a chilly aura.
Inside that dried-up well.
Van Helsing seemed to have noticed it too, but his expression was calm as he turned and glanced at Su Ziyu, saying, "There’s no mission commissioned here, no bounty to be had."
"Are you sure you want to make a move?"
Su Ziyu’s heart skipped at his words, gently shaking his head, "I don’t do things that lose money."
Haha.
Van Helsing laughed and patted Su Ziyu’s shoulder, saying, "That’s right. We can’t do things that lose money."
"If those people don’t even need to prepare commission and bounty..."
"Our days as Demon Hunters will be tougher."
Van Helsing’s words seemed to contain a deeper meaning, and Melissa, beside them, tightened her lips upon hearing.
They soon left.
Su Ziyu had begun to feel the divide between ordinary people and Demon Hunters; they feared Demon Hunters yet needed them. Van Helsing’s attitude towards ordinary people was rather cold; though he did the work of cleaning up monsters, it seemed that without commissions or bounties, he wouldn’t lift a finger.
Before nightfall, they arrived near a town.
Van Helsing found an inn, and after the three of them had a simple meal, he dragged Su Ziyu away, leaving Melissa alone in the inn.
The population here was estimated at twenty thousand.
Under the cover of darkness, Van Helsing led Su Ziyu on a winding path, quickly arriving in front of a brightly lit building. It wasn’t his first time here, as an old lady with a full smile came out to greet them as soon as they reached the door.
"Let’s go," Van Helsing casually tossed a Silver Coin and said, "Let’s go inside."
Su Ziyu’s steps were a bit hesitant.
Initially, he thought Van Helsing was bringing him to do something, perhaps triggering some mission, but he never expected him to directly bring him to a brothel for fun.
There were quite a few girls inside.
And they looked alright.
Van Helsing picked the two prettiest women for himself, gave Su Ziyu a ’you know’ look, and then went upstairs to have fun.
(╯°Д°)╯︵┻━┻
Su Ziyu’s mood was probably like this at the moment.
This guy must be toxic.
Taking him to a brothel for fun, picking the two prettiest girls, giving him a ’you know’ look, and then running upstairs to have fun.
Is this how you treat your guests?
Su Ziyu turned to look at the remaining two delicate girls with somewhat pitiful expressions, thought for a moment, and said, "Want to play some Gwent Card?"
In the end.
Van Helsing stayed there overnight. Su Ziyu played three rounds of Gwent Card with the girls, left money for staying overnight, and returned to the inn by himself.
On the way back, he heard the sound of dripping water by the river.
Su Ziyu caught a faint whiff of a foul odor but didn’t pay much attention; there were people playing cards inside the inn, dressed like mercenaries, with quite a significant gamble.
"I thought you guys would stay there overnight." Melissa’s voice came from above.
Su Ziyu looked up at the woman drinking on the rooftop, casually saying, "Still not asleep?"
"Mm." Melissa tossed down the wine flask.
Su Ziyu caught it with his hand and tossed it back at her, saying, "I don’t drink."
Melissa’s expression was a bit odd; she jumped down from the roof, looked at Su Ziyu and said, "I’ve never seen a Demon Hunter who doesn’t drink."
"Well, now you have," Su Ziyu shrugged.
Melissa curiously asked, "Why don’t you drink?"
Su Ziyu thought for a moment, casually reply, "Because when drunk, I can’t hold onto my sword."
"Van Helsing drinks often." Melissa circled Su Ziyu, sniffing, "But I’ve never seen him drunk."
"You don’t carry the scent of those women."
"What?"
"Not interested?"
Su Ziyu furrowed his brow, calmly saying, "I just don’t like it, that’s all. There’s no fun in it."
"How about me?" Melissa showed a rather charming smile.
Su Ziyu glanced at her, snatched the wine flask from her hand, and tossed it into the river, calmly saying, "You’re drunk. Get some rest."
Demon Hunters in this world are quite open.
He was sure of hearing certain noises on the night they encountered the Plague Beldam; Su Ziyu had no interest in understanding the emotional conflicts between these two and directly entered his room, closed the door in one go, leaving behind a somewhat dazed Melissa in the original spot.
Bang.
The woman kicked Su Ziyu’s door before taking a deep breath and returning to her room.
The next day.
Van Helsing cheerfully returned by noon, greeted Su Ziyu, "What? Not interested in those?"
"When we get to Lund, I’ll take you to a more advanced place."
"No need." Su Ziyu shook his head, "I don’t like these."
Van Helsing’s expression was a bit surprised. After undergoing trials and modifications, Demon Hunters’ bodies are somewhat special; they cannot reproduce offspring, and some desires may be stronger than ordinary people. Long-term Demon Hunters roam the line of life and death, generally more carefree; they are still human after all, needing to vent some inner pressure.
He stared at Su Ziyu for a while, then showed a knowing expression, patting his shoulder, "I get it."
"Turns out you fancy Female Warlocks."
"I know where they gather, but whether you succeed depends on yourself."
Su Ziyu was about to refuse but swallowed back upon hearing the term ’Female Warlock.’ Indeed, he wanted to meet the Casters of this world.
His expression further confirmed Van Helsing’s speculation; he patted Su Ziyu’s shoulder with a ’I get it’ ’leave it to me’ look, smiling, "When we get to Lund, I’ll arrange it for you."
"But those women are not easy to deal with."
"They might want you to complete some difficult tasks."
