Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Pinning the Blame in Action
Wang Dashan’s convoy was moving along the highway.
Kao Mountain Farm has this advantage: aside from a few town clusters, there are basically no people or zombies elsewhere.
Plus, they were traveling through remote locations, so nothing dangerous happened.
The highway was close to Star River; his convoy moved in stops and starts.
In the same Jeep with Wang Dashan was a young man with an eagle-hooked nose.
The eagle-hooked nose man occasionally got out of the car to check for signs of human activity nearby.
This was the third time they had stopped.
They arrived at the riverside location mentioned by the two survivors.
"Dashan, look, this is the place."
Wang Dashan walked over, looking at the chaotic footprints on the ground, and said with a headache, "What can you see from this?"
"It’s simple. There are footprints of five people here in total. Two of them belong to Baoshan’s survivors, and the other three belong to the other group. The larger footprints are a man’s, and the smaller ones are a woman’s."
"Oh! You can analyze all that?"
"Of course, I’m an old hunter. Without these skills, how could I be the Burning Army’s tracking expert?"
The eagle-hooked nose man was a bit smug, continuing to point at the footprints for analysis: "The second man’s footprints came later. He went straight into the river when he got here and handed something to the first man."
He spoke as he stepped on the footprints, as if recreating a scene.
Of course, that’s about as much as he could analyze, but for the sake of face, he still spouted some nonsense.
"Look, the man who came later gave something to the first man, and then the first man’s steps became heavier, probably because he was angry. Maybe he’s a lecher who had his plans ruined."
The two of them laughed, clearly not taking it seriously.
"They rode a trike upstream along the river. The Dawn Army might be upstream; let’s go check it out."
The two of them got back in the car, and the convoy was about to set off.
But before they could start, a cloud of dust rolled in from the front as a convoy rushed towards them at high speed.
"Who is it? Is it the Dawn Army?"
"It should be, this is their territory."
"Could they have received news and come to greet us?"
Wang Dashan’s face lit up with pride, "Brothers, keep your guard up. Just because they come to greet us doesn’t mean we should collect less tax."
The driver in his jeep immediately got the hint and moved the jeep forward, stopping right in the middle of the road.
The approaching convoy of jeeps came closer.
The driver started honking the horn incessantly.
The road was blocked, making it difficult for the other convoy to pass.
This was their bluff.
Wang Dashan sat in the back of the driver’s seat, glancing sideways at the convoy, waiting for them to come over to meet him.
He already had in mind what he was going to do in a moment.
Once they approached, he would stall a bit before opening the car door and getting out, then give the person a slap in the face.
This was his usual tactic and very effective.
Heavy trucks lined up two by two behind them, blocking the road completely.
The vehicles approached.
The eagle-hooked nose squinted, a slight hint of unease on his face.
"Dashan, the people over there... don’t seem to be Qin Han’s people?"
"Not Qin Han’s people? Impossible, Baoshan’s survivors clearly said it’s Qin Han’s man and woman."
Wang Dashan wanted to stick his head out to take a look.
Suddenly, a change occurred!
On the other side, a foreign soldier wearing a steel helmet suddenly stood up on the first open-top jeep, holding a long sniper rifle, and opened fire!
Bang~~!
The dull sound of the sniper rifle echoed; the driver of Wang Dashan’s jeep was pinned to the seat on the spot!
Wang Dashan nearly had his soul scared out of him.
"Shit! What’s going on!"
Before he could react, the sniper on the other side whistled loudly and said something in a foreign language, which they couldn’t understand.
Though they couldn’t understand, they got the gist: take action.
The jeeps screeched to a halt, and foreign soldiers stood up one by one, holding M16s in hand, and started shooting at Wang Dashan’s convoy!
Ratatata~~~~!
The dense bullets hit the vehicles, sparks flying everywhere!
Glass shattered, car lights exploded, the vehicle body emitted black smoke.
Wang Dashan and the eagle-hooked nose were quick to react, both shrinking back in the rear seats, not daring to show their heads.
Wang Dashan could only shout, "Fight back! Everyone get out and fight back!"
Some drivers jumped out from the cars at the back, holding AKs, trying to fight back.
But the sniper on the other side was no joke.
One driver jumped out, shot down with a single shot!
The second driver jumped out, shot down with another single shot!
The foreign soldiers on the jeeps jumped down under the sniper’s cover, shouting enough, enough, and swiftly flanked from both sides.
"What the damn hell! Why are there foreign bandits here?"
Wang Dashan cursed furiously, seeing the enemy advancing, he had no choice but to risk it. He jumped up, kicked open the jeep’s rear door!
"Run! Get out of the car first!"
The eagle-hooked nose jumped out of the car one after another, rolling and crawling under a heavy truck.
"Use the heavy truck as cover, look for an opportunity to fight back!"
Before he could finish talking, a flame suddenly appeared out of nowhere!
Two drivers hidden under the side heavy truck were instantly turned into fire men!
Luckily, the flame wasn’t too intense, otherwise this heavy truck might have exploded!
Wang Dashan nearly wet himself; there was even a flamethrower!
Against Qin Han’s own people, he wasn’t afraid, but against these well-equipped foreigners who couldn’t understand the language, he was completely resistant.
He excelled at internal struggles, but when it came to external enemies, he was out of his depth; the typical bully who fears the strong.
Run, or it’s over.
Wang Dashan couldn’t care less, rolling out from behind the car, sprinting towards the river.
The eagle-hooked nose and others followed suit, running after Wang Dashan frantically.
Bullets whistled past behind them, occasionally hitting someone who would then collapse.
Wang Dashan gritted his teeth, cursing himself for not having two more legs.
He didn’t have time to worry about his comrades. Their deaths were to cover for his escape.
Luckily, the riverbank wasn’t far. Finally reaching the water’s edge, Wang Dashan plunged right in.
The eagle-hooked nose was also quick, jumping into the river after Wang Dashan.
Only the two of them escaped alive; the rest were all buried on that highway.
After diving into the water, they both dove to the riverbed and swam downstream with all their might.
When they couldn’t hold their breath any longer, they’d resurface, repeating this multiple times until they were exhausted, daring only to peek towards the other side.
The foreigners, fortunately, didn’t pursue them, but all the heavy trucks were taken.
The taxes they collected these days were all gone!
Having escaped death, Wang Dashan was still terrified, crawling onto the riverbank with the eagle-hooked nose, both collapsing in exhaustion.
"Dashan, what do we do?"
Wang Dashan stared blankly at the sky for a while, knowing that if he returned to the Burning Corps like this, Leader Pang Yong wouldn’t let him off.
But after being robbed by foreigners, what could he do?
Right!
The Dawn Army!
This is the Dawn Army’s territory; with foreign bandits appearing on their turf, they must be held accountable!
Only by placing the blame on the Dawn Army and extorting them could he hope to clear his name.
Even if extortion failed, they had to make the Dawn Army mobilize under the Alliance’s name.
Since he suffered a loss, he might as well blame it on the Dawn Army.
He stood up angrily, "Let’s go, continue looking for the Dawn Army. I’ll see this time how those bastards are going to explain to me!"
