Chapter 30: Lord
Chapter 30: Lord
Fern:
"It wasn’t easy... without taking the risk, we wouldn’t have been able to bring it down this fast," I said with worry on my face.
"Fern, watch out..."
"What?!"
The claws of a White Night Wolf appeared near my face but were blocked by Kara, who used one of her abilities — [Stone Hands].
But due to the strength of the attack, Kara was sent flying into the camp.
"Kara?! Damn it."
Ability [Ice Summon] – Skill Ice Wall.
I released a D-rank skill, forming an ice wall that blocked his second claw attack from reaching me and gave me time to move back.
Then I fired an ice arrow.
The wolf noticed and dodged the arrow nimbly, stepping back.
The wolf stood far from me, continuing to observe.
"Why isn’t it attacking? Is it that cautious of me? No, impossible... something’s off... Ability [Ice Summon] – Skill Ice Shield... Argh..." I was struck in the shoulder by another White Night Wolf.
"I survived! These wolves are so cunning! Ability [Ice Summon] – Skill Ice Shield. Tch... another one... stop sneaking up!"
An ice dome formed around me, protecting me from an ambush by a third wolf.
"Sigh... my mana is almost gone... I’m feeling drowsy... and these wolves won’t give me a moment’s rest. Their numbers keep growing. Clearly, there’s a Lord among them. Just thinking that confirms the end of this mercenary group."
"Fern, hold on, I’m coming to help you!"
"Kara!"
"No, don’t come here, run away from the camp now, there’s no chance to survive!"
"Get away from here, I’ll distract them — use this chance to escape."
"What are you saying?! I can’t hear you, Ability [Stone Hands] – Skill Stone Fist."
Kara dashed forward to break my encirclement, only to end up trapped with me, unable to get out.
"You fool! Didn’t I tell you? Do you only have muscles for a brain?"
"Maybe."
"...?"
"I won’t leave a companion in trouble. Despite the bad reputation of mercenaries and their love for money, we’re still human in the end. We do what we love and hate what we must."
"So now, I’m doing what I love."
"You..."
"Will you accompany me?"
"..."
"Yes, of course."
"Alright... let’s bid this world farewell in a flashy way..."
"Ability [Ice Summon] – Skill Explosion Core of the Ice King."
A small white sphere with a blue aura emerged from my chest. It was an ice bomb — a B-rank skill created by the greatest Ice Mage. I found his legacy and learned this skill from it.
The price was clear — self-sacrifice, since the explosion was of B-rank, a rank higher than mine.
The explosion resulted in me, Kara, and all the surrounding wolves being frozen to death.

Left Deputy Vedan:
"My god... I’m late... we’ve lost many talents. The commander will be saddened, truly."
I moved along the front wall, reaching the ice sculpture masterpiece created by Number 8.
"But unfortunately, the party isn’t over yet."
I looked at the sea of wolves — from Night Wolves to White Night Wolves — all rushing toward the front wall.
"Sigh, what’s the commander doing sitting in his seat? I truly don’t know what he’s thinking now."
"These rascals... doing what they love and enjoying it. Unforgivable."
"I see you, the one trying to attack me, and even the wolves climbing up. My sword trembles with excitement."
I grabbed my sword handle and adjusted my stance for attack.
"Ability [Water Sword Art] – Skill Flowing River, Slash."
A sword wave in the form of a flowing river followed my blade’s motion and cut off the head of a White Night Wolf that had used its skill.
I stomped on the wood and dashed quickly toward the White Night Wolves that climbed the front wall, cutting all their heads in one wavy river line.
"Huff... you’re not worth more than this." I sheathed my sword.
"Ooooooooo..."
"Hmm... what a strong howl."
"Why do these wolves love ambushes so much? Do they think they can defeat me with just that? Ability [Water Sword Art] – Skill Steps in Rain."
I disappeared and reappeared somewhere else on the front wall.
In my previous position, a light sphere appeared at high speed and blew up that section of the wall.
"Sigh, as I said, Ability [Water Sword Art] – Skill Flowing River, don’t try to ambush me."
I sent my sword toward the void where the Royal Night Wolf was about to appear. But it didn’t — it appeared right beside me, growling.
"Arrgh... Arrrghhh..."
"Oh... clever beast... you knew that getting close would mean your end. I commend you... I commend you..."
"But you know, I don’t have time to play with you, come on."
The wolf charged at me, sending its claws to tear me apart, but I blocked them with my sword.
"Is that all the strength you’ve got? How weak." I mocked the wolf.
The Royal Night Wolf stepped back, sensing my killing intent.
"Now it’s my turn. Let me show you real power and speed. Ability [Water Sword Art] – Skill Compressed Water."
I moved my sword slightly to stop it from leaving the sheath.
I disappeared from my place using Steps in Rain and appeared in front of the royal wolf.
"Slash." The royal wolf’s head was cut off at incredible speed, left with no chance to resist.
"Now, to end this farce. Ability [Water Sword Art] – Steps in Rain."
I vanished from the front wall and appeared inside the forest, before the shadow of a giant wolf.
"Hmm... a Lord... no, a true Lord. I came to end you [Water Swor—"
I couldn’t even finish my technique before I lost the ability to speak.
—
True Wolf Lord:
I looked with my blue eyes toward the corpse before me, then toward the camp gate, and began to move toward it.
—
Therius:
Two minutes later, the camp gate was breached by the strongest wolf of the pack.
"My god... my god... you didn’t have to enter in such a flashy way. Nearly all your children are dead, and all my mercenaries too... can I claim compensation? Oh, King of Night Wolves, or True Lord."
I walked toward the shattered entrance, my green eyes glowing with emerald light.
