Chapter 463: D170. Barus_2
“Yes, exactly that,” nodded the Fourteenth Princess, “a High-level Demon capable of Enslavement of Wind Element and Light Element—”
She was about to continue explaining when the Hero quickly and excitedly took over the conversation:
“And they also descend from the sky during the year-end festival to give gifts to good children!”
The Sergeant and the Princess looked at each other, both falling silent for a moment.
“…Well, it’s not exactly wrong to say that,” finally, it was the Sergeant who coughed lightly, reluctantly giving an ambiguous answer.
Noticing the subtle expressions of the two, the Hero realized the credibility of the fairytale picture books was not high, and embarrassedly twirled her long cheek-framing hair.
To recover from her own misstep, she quickly adjusted her tone and raised a more formal question:
“So, does this historical Angel Ancient Country have any relationship with the Winged People Tribe of the Western Kingdom?”
Having encountered the Snow Women and the Sand Lizardfolk on the Highland, the Hero had grown more attentive to the Demon Races within the Kingdom. During her free time, she had made her utmost effort to flip through and note down numerous related books.
Winged People, as the name implies, are a Demon Race with bird-like wings on their backs.
However, unlike the Snow Women, who possess the strength of High-level Demons upon reaching adulthood, the Winged People’s power wasn’t as formidable; an adult average male Winged Person, even considering their aerial capabilities, only had combat strength approximately equivalent to a Second Transformation Professional Warrior.
Moreover, according to what the Hero read in books, not every Winged Person’s wings are strong enough to support them to fly.
In fact, many common Winged People’s wings are not fully developed, not much larger than their arm span even in adulthood. These wings have no magical organs inside, akin to being atrophied, utterly incapable of flight, just a burdensome decoration.
Rather than calling them Demons, they are closer to being ordinary Subhumans, and both in terms of overall civilization level and individual talents, they are far inferior to more legendary Species like Elves and Dwarves.
The book also stated that the Winged People revere [ ], the closer the color of their wings to [ ], the higher their status in the tribe.

The Hero recalled the fragmented information she read in the books, her brows slightly furrowing.
Although these records were not comprehensive, they were sufficient for her to form a general impression of this unfamiliar race.
“I remember, the Winged Race takes pride in black wings, and not only that, they… they are not recognized as Demons.”
Unlike the Snow Women, not being recognized as Demons meant that the Winged People were regarded as Magic Creatures. Hunting them would not draw any punishment from the Church or the Kingdom.
“That’s right, the Winged People Tribe despises other Species, living off plundering, their tribe believes their lineage to be noble, the past Humankind merely servants of Angels…”
The Fourteenth Princess sighed; though she had never visited those dangerous places, she had often heard complaints from her family.
She shook her head, her tone carrying a trace of helplessness: “In any case, they are a troublesome group, together with that cloud-above Ruined City, they occupy the Western Border of the Kingdom.”
The Sergeant also showed a look of agreement, adding:
“However, the actual strength of the Winged People Tribe isn’t much, and their population can’t really grow. Without geographical advantages, they are simply no match for the Kingdom’s regular army. So, most of the time, they just hole up at the fringe of the Ancient Royal City, not daring, nor willing, to cause trouble deeper inside the Kingdom.”
Hearing the portrayal by the two, the Hero felt somewhat disappointed.
“So, are they really connected to Angels, because in the books the Angels are described as…” her tone slightly hesitant, seemingly reluctant to shatter her beautiful image of Angels.
“That’s right, the Angels described in the writings are essentially benevolent beings, taking on the duty of guiding Humankind,” nodded the Sergeant.
“Moreover, according to investigations by scholars in that period, these story descriptions are generally correct.”
Upon hearing this, realizing there was more to that exploration, both young women listened attentively to the Sergeant’s words.
“In that distant era, benevolent and powerful Angels guided the ignorant Humankind on the ground, provided protection, and even established the nascent form of today’s Church.”
The Hero blinked in surprise, and the nearby Fourteenth Princess also couldn’t maintain her composure, evidently hearing this for the first time.
“Hero, you’re also a member of the Church; you should know, the Church of the Kingdom does not worship any specific ‘God,’ but considering the Church’s form throughout the Kingdom and even longer human history, such a form is extremely rare.
“Have you ever wondered why the Church Court developed such a unique structure, and what triggered this particular emergence?”
To the Sergeant’s question, the Hero could only blankly shake her head.
Although she was a Martial Monk, she would only say “also considered” because, after all, she frequented the Healer Association more than the Church.
The Sergeant, looking resignedly at this oblivious successor to the Saintess, didn’t beat around the bush and continued:
“Although the specific processes are complex, tracing back to the origins, this unique belief system is also closely related to the Ancient Royal City.
“In that era, benevolent Angels sheltered Humankind, and many among Humankind emerged who believed in these Angels, serving them; this is the nascent form of the Kingdom Church.
