San Tian Liang Jue

Chapter 1080 Reversal of the Trial (Part 1)

Chapter 1 The Incursion

Everyone in the courtroom turned to look at the figure in the doorway.

It was a gaunt man in a long purple suit, an evil smile on his lips.

"Feng Bujue?" Gui Xiao practically blurted out the name the moment he saw him.

That did it... the courtroom exploded in chatter.

"What? That's Crazy Bujue?"

"The legendary Crazy Bujue?"

"Strange... I heard he had four heads and eyes that shot death rays."

"Nonsense! I heard Crazy Bujue was the sworn brother of the king of all demons, capable of seventy-two transformations, with a hairy face and a thunderous voice..."

"You're full of it. Crazy Bujue is supposed to be a handsome young scholar, incredibly beautiful, with the lower half of a beast..."

Clearly, Jue-Ge’s reputation in the script world had spread far and wide. All the NPCs in the audience from various planets in the main universe had heard of him. However... their sources seemed questionable, as they'd all received heavily distorted versions of the truth... leading to all sorts of bizarre misunderstandings about Jue-Ge.

Still, some core elements of the information about Jue-Ge had survived the rumors.

Therefore, everyone present had one basic understanding: Feng Bujue was a despicable, treacherous, and extremely dangerous fellow who had created countless legends.

Bang, bang, bang...

"Silence!" After a few seconds, the clerk hammered his gavel, silencing the noisy crowd.

The courtroom quickly quieted down again.

The black-robed judge spoke up at this point: "Feng Bujue, how dare you break in during a court session? Do you know what it means to be in contempt of the Court of Truth..."

"I was just a little eager to get in and accidentally broke the door," Jue-Ge interrupted, walking forward. "At most, it's destruction of public property. What does that have to do with contempt of court?" He scrunched up his eyebrows, tilted his head, and pointed at the destroyed door behind him. "Besides... this broken door was already old and falling apart. It's more like its lifespan just happened to expire when I was using it normally."

"Insolence!" Faced with this blatant sophistry, the clerk was furious. As if possessed by a county magistrate, he bellowed two words that were rarely heard in a "court of law" but frequently used in a "public hall," and raised his gavel again, slamming it down.

Bang—crack...

Unexpectedly, he hit so hard that the gavel broke on impact.

"See? Everything's falling apart. Your court's hardware isn't being maintained... can you blame that on me?" Feng Bujue had even more reason now. "Is the clerk in contempt of court for breaking the gavel?"

"You..." The clerk's anger flared again, but he had nothing left to hit with. He was afraid of smashing the podium in front of him if he punched the table, so he could only glare at Jue-Ge.

"Alright, alright," the black-robed judge said to the clerk, lowering his head. "Bok, calm down and be mindful of the impact of your actions."

His calm words made the thunderous, imposing clerk tremble.

"I... I'm sorry... Your Honor," the clerk, Bok, respectfully turned back. "I lost my composure..."

"Forget it." The judge waved his hand, hidden beneath his black robes, and picked up the gavel in front of him (there was another one on the bench, naturally for the judge's use). "In any case..."

Bang—

As he spoke, the judge lightly raised the gavel and struck the wooden pad on the table.

Instantly, a wave of invisible energy erupted, shocking everyone in the courtroom.

"I see... the judge is using mental-type abilities..." In less than half a second, Gui Xiao analyzed the judge's main ability system from that strike.

The judge, unaware of this, simply looked at Jue-Ge and continued, "Feng Bujue, I won't pursue the matter of the broken door... but what do you mean by barging into this court, interrupting the proceedings, and claiming you have an 'objection'?"

"Isn't my meaning obvious?" As he spoke, Jue-Ge walked to the defendant's seat, raised an arm, and pointed at Gui Xiao. "I'm here to stop my client from pleading guilty."

"Hmm?" The judge hesitated for a moment and asked, "Are you Devouring Sky Gui Xiao's defense attorney?"

"Yes," Feng Bujue replied without changing his expression.

"Hey, hey..." Gui Xiao squinted at Jue-Ge. "Who asked you to defend me?"

Feng Bujue completely ignored Gui Xiao's question, turned to the judge, and continued, "Your Honor, the Court of Truth allows defendants to hire their own lawyers, correct?"

"Correct," the judge replied in a deep voice. "However... the lawyer hired by the defendant must have a license to practice law." He paused. "Feng Bujue, let me state in advance that you can't try to get away with using your status as an otherworldly traveler..." He tapped the table with his finger. "The legal qualification I'm talking about must be a relevant certificate issued by a legitimate government in a legitimate territory within the main universe."

"Hmph..." At this point, the brown-skinned prosecutor stood up and sneered at Jue-Ge. "Feng Bujue, if you can't prove your legal qualification, then you're in contempt of court!"

"Oh?" Hearing this, Jue-Ge turned to look at the prosecutor. "And who are you, shit-face birdman?"

"Shit-face... birdman?" The prosecutor had never heard such terms in his life. "You bastard! I am the famous, the renowned... the 'Unbeatable Prosecutor' Biff Murray! How dare you call me shit-face birdman?"

"Shit-face birdman, shit-face birdman! Shit-face birdman—" After hearing the other party's self-introduction, Feng Bujue repeated the epithet three times to his face, each time with increasing emphasis.

Biff trembled with anger, but he couldn't argue with the rogue-like man in front of him. Like a bullied child, he could only complain to the judge: "Your Honor! I object! He's insulting me!"

"Objection sustained," the judge replied, looking at Jue-Ge. "Feng Bujue, please watch your language."

"Okay," Feng Bujue nodded to the judge, then turned to Biff. "I'm sorry, Prosecutor Biff. I shouldn't have called you shit-face birdman. Although that term accurately describes your appearance in the eyes of us Earthlings, calling you that... seems a bit indecent. I'll never call you shit-face birdman again, at least not in court. As for whether I call you shit-face birdman in private, or unintentionally mention shit-face birdman when talking to someone when you're not around..."

"Stop it, you bastard!"

When Biff heard the words "I'm sorry," he briefly thought, "This Feng Bujue seems to be quite polite." But then, the other party used that term to insult him five times in a row, without any sign of stopping, which made Biff burst with rage.

"Feng Bujue, if you mention that word again, I will find you in contempt of court," the judge gave his final warning.

"Okay, okay," Feng Bujue shrugged and walked towards the bench.

"What are you doing?" Bok immediately stood up, alert.

"Relax, Mr. Clerk," Feng Bujue nonchalantly took something out of his knapsack. "I'm just showing you something." As he said this, he handed a paper document to Bok. "Please pass this to His Honor for his review."

After handing over the document, Jue-Ge turned back and looked at Shit-Face... oh, no... at Biff with a provocative gaze. "This... is a 'Lawyer's License from the World of Books,' personally issued by Zhuan Xie Zun.尊哥's (Zun-Ge's)推理俱乐部 (Reasoning Club) is undoubtedly a 'legitimate territory' in the main universe; and he himself... is the 'legitimate government' there." Saying this, he licked his lips and made a face at Biff. "My legal qualification, which some people have questioned... should no longer be an issue, right?"

"Hmm... the credentials are in order," the judge quickly finished reading the document. "Fen—" He paused, then corrected himself. "Defense Attorney, this court recognizes your qualification to defend Devouring Sky Gui Xiao."

"I say..." Gui Xiao, at this point, rested his elbows on the defendant's table, propped his chin in his hands, and wore an impatient expression. "Is anyone even listening to me? I said I want to plead guilty... and I don't want that guy defending me..."

"Defense Attorney, you heard that, your client is refusing your defense," the judge said to Jue-Ge.

"I object," Feng Bujue replied.

"Hey... you can object to that?" Gui Xiao was astonished.

"Yes... Defense Attorney, what are you objecting to?" The judge also felt a headache coming on.

"The defendant is a minor. Matters related to his defense should be decided by his legal guardian. He has no right to refuse my defense," Feng Bujue replied.

"Hmm..." The judge thought for a moment. "I see..." He paused for half a second. "Then, who is the defendant's legal guardian?"

"That's me," Feng Bujue declared without hesitation, patting his chest.

"What is your relationship to the defendant?" the judge asked again.

"I'm his godfather," Feng Bujue replied again, without hesitation, giving a very wicked answer.

"You're full of it!" Gui Xiao turned and cursed.

Jue-Ge ignored Gui Xiao and looked at the judge. "Your Honor, I farted."

"Uh..." the judge said. "So what..."

"Nothing, since my client mentioned it, I thought I'd share it with everyone," Feng Bujue replied.

"Oh..." the judge responded, silent for three seconds. "Defense Attorney... please refrain from mentioning things that are irrelevant to this case."

"Okay," Jue-Ge nodded in response.

In the span of three sentences, Feng Bujue had used the double meaning of the word "fart" and the game's translation issues to brush the matter aside...

"Then..." the judge continued, "Defense Attorney, also legal guardian... are you now going to plead not guilty on behalf of the defendant?"

"Yes," Feng Bujue replied. "And..." He turned to the jury. "I hope the jury can disregard all of the defendant's testimony."

"Alright, this court allows your request," the judge immediately replied.

"Hey! You can do that?" Gui Xiao clearly didn't understand the law, and even less about the laws of the Court of Truth. His surprise was understandable.

"Alright..." At this point, Feng Bujue finally leaned over to the defendant's seat and whispered to Gui Xiao, "If you want to get out of this, just stand there and watch my performance."

"Tch..." Gui Xiao didn't seem grateful. He also lowered his voice and replied, "Putting aside the fact that we're in a competition, where we should be enemies, even if I were willing to cooperate with you against these NPCs, don't you think it would be more efficient for us to just use force?"

"If you and I join forces, we can certainly wash this place in blood," Feng Bujue replied. "But that would be meaningless..." He lowered his voice even further. "The Court of Truth is a rather special 'Four Pillars God.' 'It' doesn't have an independent, concrete entity like the other Pillar Gods. The Court of Truth is a concept, a will... not something that can be destroyed by force."

"Oh?" Gui Xiao continued, "Then what are you planning to do? Talk 'it' to death?"

"Heh..." Jue-Ge smiled without saying a word.
