Chapter 1743: Tense situation between races
Luckily for the two of us, the racial alliance forces weren’t that far away from where the orc settlement was.
So in the end, it didn’t take long for the saintess’ group to find them.
Though it did take some time for them to arrive since they were a much larger group.
They had to slowly make their way through all of the forces of Destruction that were scattered throughout the land of the orcs to reach this place.
When they came close, I led a group of orcs to go and help them find this place.
Though the main reason I did this was to show the orcs that we had the ability to fight against the forces of Destruction.
When the orcs saw the way that the racial alliance forces fought against the forces of Destruction, the looks on their faces changed. They knew that the racial alliance wasn’t a force to look down on with the way that they could fight.
Once we grouped up, we led them back to the settlement of orcs.
The first meeting between the two sides...
Awkward.
That was the only word that could describe what happened between the two sides.
It wasn’t as if it would go smoothly just because I was here since there was a history between the two sides. It was only natural that things would be awkward between them when they were forced to meet like this.
But there was nothing that either side could do since this was necessary for both sides.
So in the end, there was a meeting that was held between the leaders of the two sides.
I was the one that was set as the mediator since I was respected by both sides.
After sitting down, there was an awkward silence that filled the room as no one knew what to say.
For the members of the racial alliance, the orcs were a barbaric race that they didn’t know if they could actually talk to.
For the orcs, the members of the racial alliance were those that were trespassing on their territory. Even if they were the enemy of an enemy and could be seen as friends, it wasn’t as if they could become friends that easily.
So it was only natural that there would be an awkwardness that filled the air.
As such, it was up to me to break this tension.
The leaders of both sides even looked at me as if they wanted me to say something.
I had been silent since I had been hoping that someone else would break the ice. That would be the most effective way to get the ball rolling since it meant someone was willing to take the step forward.
But in the end, I had to mediate for them.
"We have someone that is willing to lead us to where the array that the forces of Destruction used to invade this place is."
As soon as I said this, the expressions on the faces of the racial alliance leaders immediately changed.
It wasn’t that they didn’t trust me, it was just that they couldn’t help being skeptical about this. It was more that they didn’t trust the orcs who they knew would be the ones leading us.
After a long silence, one of them asked, "Your majesty, are you certain of this?"
Without answering, I looked at the cloaked orc as if I was prompting him to answer.
The cloaked orc didn’t say anything at first, but it was hard for him to remain silent when I looked at him like this. It was even harder for him to remain silent when everyone else also looked at him.
So in the end, the cloaked orc said with a nod, "We have orcs that escaped from that location, so we know exactly where it is. We will send our warriors to bring you to that place by the shortest and safest path."
Though the cloaked orc said this, it didn’t seem like it made the leaders of the racial alliance feel relieved. It seemed that most of them were still worried about something.
I didn’t need to ask to know what they were worried about, so I said, "This is the only lead that we have. Remember that the enemy of an enemy is a friend, we all need each other right now."
This time, their expressions finally changed.
It seemed like they were slowly coming around on the idea, even if there was a trace of unwillingness in their eyes still.
They knew that this was the best option out of all the options that were here.
The problem was that the other side were orcs...
It was hard for the other races to just trust orcs like this.
But in the end, it seemed like most of the leaders were being swayed by this...
The few that seemed to be hesitating were those that had been directly harassed by the orcs before.
The other exception to this was the Democratic Union general.
It seemed like he really didn’t like this idea, but he didn’t know what to say at first. It seemed like he was struggling to figure out some way to reject this idea.
So I decided to make one final push.
"We’ve all seen what happens if we hesitate for too long. The situation in the Mofu Mofu Kingdom should be a reminder of this. As such, we should come to a decision as soon as possible."
All of the leaders reacted to this and it seemed like they were being swayed by these words.
What had happened in the Mofu Mofu Kingdom had left a deep impression on them.
Especially what happened with the Famine of the Four Omens.
However, right when it seemed like everyone was about to fall to this pressure...
"I have something to say." The general from the Democratic Union stood up all of sudden as he said this.
Then turning to the others, he said, "I am still the commander of this mission and I do not think that we should go through with this."
