Chapter 310: Chapter 312: How did you get in?
"Don’t overthink it; let your brain rest," the doctor said, prescribing some medicine with a simple instruction.
The nurse handed Amelia Shaw the prescribed medicine and led her out. Amelia Shaw took the medicine but didn’t hurry to leave. Her pace gradually slowed, a detail the nurse walking ahead failed to notice. Amelia Shaw watched the nurse, and seizing an opportunity, she slipped into a room in the lounge area.
Inside, Sophie Sullivan couldn’t sleep. She lay staring at the ceiling, wondering how she would endure the next two weeks with her head bandaged up like a pig’s.
A faint sound broke the silence as the room door was pushed open. Who could be coming in at this hour? Sophie wondered.
When her gaze fell upon Amelia Shaw’s deathly pale, ghost-like face, Sophie Sullivan tensed up, staring at her guardedly. "How did you get in?"
Amelia Shaw stared blankly at Sophie Sullivan, her eyes swirling with a multitude of emotions.
Sophie Sullivan pushed herself into a sitting position. The effects of the painkiller injection were already starting to wear off. A dull ache began to throb on her face again.
She frowned, her eyes fixed on Amelia Shaw. Her showing up now definitely isn’t a good sign!
For the sake of her face, she had to be on guard!
Amelia Shaw let out two cold laughs, her voice like a phantom’s whisper, echoing chillingly through the room. Step by step, she approached the bed, finally reaching the bedside. She extended her hand, intending to touch Sophie Sullivan’s face.
Before her hand could make contact, Sophie Sullivan scrambled off the bed. A bed now separated them, and they faced each other with open hostility.
"Amelia Shaw, I’m warning you. Leave now, and I’ll pretend nothing happened," Sophie Sullivan said coldly. "Otherwise, don’t blame me for what comes next!"
"Maniac, I just came to see you out of kindness. Why are you so tense?" Amelia Shaw also began to laugh, a sound so strange and laced with a hint of malice that it made one’s skin crawl.
At this very moment, the nurse finally realized Amelia Shaw was missing. All available nurses were immediately dispatched to find her. Anxious, hurried footsteps echoed from the corridor as a nurse arrived at the doorway and knocked.
"Maniac, may I come in?"
Sophie Sullivan’s lips curved into a smile. "Come in."
The nurse pushed the door open and, sure enough, saw Amelia Shaw, who had disappeared. The nurse let out a huge sigh of relief, but then tensed up even more. Amelia Shaw and the maniac... those two together...
The palpable tension between the two women compelled the nurse to move closer to Sophie Sullivan. "Maniac, are you alright?" she asked cautiously.
Sophie Sullivan glanced at Amelia Shaw. Amelia Shaw chuckled lightly. "Look at you, so scared. I just suddenly remembered the maniac had surgery today, so I thought I’d drop by to see her. What’s everyone so nervous about?"
The nurse looked flustered. "Miss Shaw," she urged, "Young Master Thomas Shannon gave explicit orders: no one is to disturb the maniac without permission. Please leave quickly. Otherwise, if the Young Master finds out and gets angry, there’s nothing we can do to..."
Thomas Shannon again.
It was always Thomas Shannon!
Amelia Shaw was truly fed up!
When would Thomas Shannon ever show her even half the affection, half the concern, he lavished on that maniac?
Knowing he doted exclusively on that maniac, didn’t he realize it made people want to erase her from the face of the earth forever!
A faint, seemingly harmless smile touched Amelia Shaw’s lips. She clutched her medicine and turned to leave the room. At the doorway, she paused, glanced back slightly, and said to Sophie Sullivan, "Maniac, I wish you a speedy recovery."
