Chapter 956: Chapter 503: Sin Demon Nest (First Update)
Soon, Rod found a large area with battle scars.
It seemed that Chucher and his team had engaged in intense combat here, and the monsters were still the Profanity Warriors.
Anna murmured, "Why are there so many of these monsters here?"
"This is the commercial district of Starry Sky City."
Mephit said softly.
"Profanity Warriors are the product of greed, and in every era, merchants are always the greediest. As long as there’s sufficient profit, greed will devour their conscience."
"...Trading with Doomsday believers, selling human flesh and souls, some even do business with the Black Fog and monsters."
Anna looked at her in disbelief, "Is what you’re saying true? Are there really such people?"
"Yes."
Mephit said calmly, "There are many in our Royal City; before the King’s New Decree was issued, at least one meat mill existed in every three blocks in the Lower City District. Even after the King’s New Decree was issued, such people haven’t been completely eradicated."
Anna was shocked and exclaimed, "Are they crazy? If caught, the Internal Affairs Court would burn them to death. Aren’t they afraid of dying?"
"Of course they are, but certain things compel them to cross the red line."
Mephit said lightly.
"And those things that compel them are the cause of the Profanity Warriors’ birth."
Anna fell silent, realizing she knew nothing about the Royal City or those magnates known as Mahara—they were the earliest sponsors of Rod, and many of her potions were given for free by them.
"Is Starry Sky City like this too?" she asked softly.
Mephit nodded slightly, "The more people, the bigger the business, and the fewer limits there are."
"Starry Sky City is a super city, much larger than our Royal City. Over a thousand years, countless ruins and destruction cannot fully conceal the prosperity of Starry Sky City’s business district. One can only imagine how much greed is hidden here. When the Black Fog descended, Profanity Warriors were born from this dense black ugliness."
Anna felt her spirit was shocked, experiencing an extremely unpleasant feeling, and she mumbled, "I... I think, most people, should be good..."
Suddenly, Rod’s voice came from the distance.
"Come quickly, there’s a clue here."
Anna spurred her horse and flew to Rod’s side.
Rod pointed to a large broken plaza ahead and said, "Here, there’s a large area with battle marks. I saw Chucher’s hammer strikes and axe cuts, but upon leaving this plaza, no new traces can be found around. Help me search an area centering on this place, within a thousand yards."
"Alright." Anna immediately raised her horse’s hoofs and ran in all directions, as if to forget the earlier conversation.
Mephit walked over silently and said softly, "Rod, you might want to look underground."
"Underground?"
Rod looked at her in surprise.
"Can Profanity Warriors dig? The ground of Starry Sky City is strengthened with Spiritual Energy; it’s extremely solid, and it’s hard to damage it extensively in battles below the King Level."
The Book of Knowledge suddenly spoke in his mind, "Master, it’s possible! There might be a more powerful Profanity Warrior here, which would establish its lair underground, turning this place into a breeding ground for greed, continuously creating new Profanity Warriors."
Rod furrowed his brows and asked, "If it’s underground, where is the entrance?"
"There’s no entrance."
Mephit and the Book of Knowledge almost simultaneously answered him.
"Profanity Warriors involve space capability. If a more powerful Profanity Warrior truly exists, it would transport back to its lair."
Rod asked solemnly, "Then how do we find it?"
Mephit answered, "It won’t leave the commercial district, and its teleportation capability is limited, not exceeding ten thousand yards."
In the Dream Realm, through Rod’s consciousness, the Book of Knowledge glanced at her and said, slightly surprised, "She knows a lot about Sin Demons."
"Sin Demons?"
"Monsters born of human sin, existing between Fallen and Pollutants, retaining only minor human characteristics, with behaviors basically identical to monsters."
Rod didn’t pay much attention. He had spent only a few months in school before participating in battles long-term and hadn’t continued his education for various reasons. The lack of systematic education left gaps in his knowledge, which he still hadn’t fully compensated for.
With Mephit’s intelligence, she was probably an excellent student, knowing a few knowledge points that he didn’t was perfectly normal.
"No need to mind it. Oh, by the way, I’ve always wanted the Book of the Future to check if the rumors about her being the Son of Destruction, possibly destroying the Royal City, are true."
The Book of Knowledge flipped its pages with a slightly disgruntled tone.
"That’s impossible. While having three Soul Traits is rare, the worst consequence is losing control and going mad, turning into a monster. Her Spiritual Energy hasn’t surpassed the limit, so how could she destroy the Royal City?"
"The human Royal City is guarded by the Holy Fire, and adding Fuel Elements and Firewood to the Holy Fire is the most basic human task. After countless years of fanning the flame, its total Spiritual Energy is exceptionally immense. Only when great terror descends, bringing those indescribable beings from the depths of the Black Fog, could possibly destroy a Royal City."
Rod nodded; he also knew it was hard to believe. However, after the Book of the Future informed him about the Source Prophecy, he suddenly remembered something.
When the Great Prophet Iyeta predicted "Mephit is the Son of Destruction," and then vehemently denied it, wasn’t it exactly the same as when the Book of Knowledge predicted "a great catastrophe would occur in 51 days"?
