Metal crack

10 Stepping Forward

Ou Zhanpeng returned to the cockpit and activated the communication system, "Assault 007 calling bridge, Assault 007 calling bridge, please respond!"

Beep beep—

After the prompt, a familiar voice came through, "Assault 007, what happened? Why aren't you in orbit?"

"Bridge, we don't know what happened yet. There's an abnormal hole in the craft, possibly shot down by aliens. Also, we have critically injured personnel on board who need to be returned to the warship for treatment as soon as possible!"

"Understood, rescue has been arranged, but the warship's location is too far. Rescue will take 20 minutes to arrive."

"20 minutes?" Ou Zhanpeng exclaimed in disbelief. The assault craft only had basic first-aid supplies. If there were professional doctors, there might still be a sliver of hope. The semi-competent individuals who only knew simple first aid wouldn't be able to save anyone.

"That's the fastest we can manage," the bridge replied.

Ou Zhanpeng had a sudden idea, "The injured has a severe bleeding hole in the upper abdomen. Please send a doctor down, as soon as possible!"

It was like an ambulance always having an emergency doctor, who could perform simple procedures and buy the patient some time. This seemingly insignificant amount of time might be the hope for survival.

The bridge was silent for a moment, but then a clear and distinct response came, "Bridge received!"

Ou Zhanpeng let out a sigh of relief. He had done everything he could. Even if the injured personnel didn't make it, he would have a clear conscience.

Returning to the crew cabin, he informed the others of the news. Everyone's expression remained extremely grim.

"Luo Yu, can Xiao Ma last twenty minutes?" an old professor, over fifty years old, asked in a deep voice.

Ou Zhanpeng knew this old professor was Gong Yiding, the deputy director of the lunar research station and the backbone of the first group of evacuees.

The young man being asked pursed his lips tightly, "His blood pressure is only 60/40 right now. If it can be maintained, there's still some hope. If the blood pressure continues to drop..."

He didn't finish his sentence, but everyone understood his meaning.

"Can the research station send people for support?" Gong Yiding asked.

"No, the distance is too great," Ou Zhanpeng replied.

Gong Yiding's expression became even more somber, "Let's transfuse blood. Xiao Ma is type B, right? Whose blood type is compatible?"

"I'm type O, draw mine!" Luo Yu immediately stepped forward.

"Me!"

"Me too!"

"Count me in," Ou Zhanpeng also stepped forward, "I'm type B."

Gong Yiding added, "Xiao Ou, is the cabin filled with mixed gas? The injured need oxygen."

"Got it," Ou Zhanpeng agreed, "I'll adjust it immediately..."

Beep beep—

A prompt sounded, and Ou Zhanpeng stopped immediately, "This is Assault 007!"

"Assault 007, satellites have detected enemy targets, two in number, direction south, approximately ten minutes away from your location. It's highly likely they shot you down."

"Five minutes?" Ou Zhanpeng was stunned. "How long until the reinforcements arrive?"

"The doctor hasn't arrived yet."

Ou Zhanpeng felt like cursing. What kind of situation was this? The enemy would arrive in ten minutes, and my side still had to hold on for more than twenty minutes?

He was almost in despair.

Hold on? Easier said than done.

Ou Zhanpeng was the only combat personnel on the assault craft. All the weapons were one rifle with four magazines, two grenades, and a military saber.

There was no heavy weaponry. The reinforcements were too late. What could he use to hold on for twenty minutes?

Looking around, everyone who heard the news remained silent.

Ou Zhanpeng looked at the almost desperate crowd, then at the seriously injured and unconscious researcher. He gritted his teeth fiercely, "You all stay here, I'll go hold off the enemy!"

Everyone was shocked and stared at Ou Zhanpeng blankly.

Everyone knew that humanity's technological level was far inferior to that of aliens. Going out was a sure death.

But they were all researchers, with no combat capabilities and no weapons. No matter how anxious they were, it was useless.

Ou Zhanpeng quickly organized his equipment, "The aliens' methods are extraordinary. Defending the assault craft is certain death. They don't even need to destroy it, just making a few more holes to depressurize the cabin..."

He suddenly couldn't continue. His vacant eyes stared fixedly at a corner. After a few seconds, they returned to normal. "If I die, you all leave the craft and split up. If you're lucky, you might survive!"

The others were silent. It seemed like they had endless words in their hearts, but when they reached their lips, they couldn't say anything.

At this moment, everyone's emotions were extremely complex.

Ou Zhanpeng, fully armed, strode into the airlock. As the cabin door closed and the air was evacuated, he felt a moment of daze.

He had been so resolute in leaving because he was afraid of delaying further and faltering in his hard-won decision.

The outer cabin door opened, and Ou Zhanpeng stepped out of the craft. "Bridge, give me the exact location of the enemy!"

"Crater direction!"

Ou Zhanpeng understood instantly. "Received!"

Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly saw the barrel of an artillery gun exposed beneath the damaged hull of the craft.

Ou Zhanpeng's eyes lit up. He immediately crawled in and, with quick movements, removed a functional 23mm autocannon from beneath the damaged wing.

With the autocannon on his shoulder and a magazine box in hand, Ou Zhanpeng started walking.

On Earth, he would never be able to carry such heavy weaponry. Even with power armor, he could only last for a short while.

But with the low gravity on the moon, he could manage to carry this cannon.

Moving forward, after a moment, he found a suitable terrain in the area. Before the enemy arrived, he quickly set up and prepared to intercept.

Not long after, the enemies appeared. However, a situation that astonished Ou Zhanpeng occurred. These two enemies were strangely proportioned. One was tall and strong, at least over two meters, stepping on a hoverboard. The front of the hoverboard was inlaid with strange decorations, seemingly the bones of some creature, making them look like bad guys.

The other was short and stout, at most just over a meter tall. However, he wore a short, full-coverage armor, flying solely with the jet devices on his back, looking like an incompletely evolved, oversized iron toad.

Strike first, suffer later!

To prevent the enemies from approaching the assault craft, Ou Zhanpeng fired first. With a muffled bang, the bullet accurately hit the tall, strong alien, creating a bright spark, and seemingly emitting an arc of electricity.

Upon seeing this, the two aliens split into two paths. The tall, strong one headed towards Ou Zhanpeng's hiding spot, while the iron toad continued flying towards the assault craft.

Ou Zhanpeng's pupils contracted sharply. After firing another shot, he immediately threw a grenade. With a boom, it exploded, kicking up dust and smoke.

Ou Da Shao seized the opportunity to jump up and dash to another piece of cover to hide.

But everything he did was in vain. The aliens still pressed forward relentlessly.

Ou Zhanpeng set up the 23mm autocannon he had hidden here beforehand, aimed at the target, and opened fire.

Damn aliens, come on!
