Chapter 203: Chapter 203: The Mysterious Lin Family Ancestor_1
「The City Gate!」
Qin Feiyang’s arrest warrant had been torn down a full ten days prior.
Four guards meticulously inspected everyone entering and exiting the city.
"It’s Qin Feiyang!"
"What’s he doing here?"
The crowd queuing outside the city for inspection suddenly erupted in commotion. All eyes turned to the city street.
A moment later, Shi Zheng, accompanied by Qin Feiyang, approached the four guards.
"Greetings, Master Qin."
Everyone bowed respectfully, including the four guards.
Qin Feiyang nodded to them and then asked the four guards, "Which direction did the Wolf King go last night?"
"That way."
One of the guards pointed towards the deep mountains to the left.
Qin Feiyang looked up, gazing into the distance. He saw overlapping mountain ranges and towering ancient trees, and could faintly hear the successive roars of beasts.
He looked at the four guards again and said gravely, "Before the Wolf King left Yan City, did anyone else leave?"
"Many people left, but we checked them all. No one was suspicious," the four replied, shaking their heads.
Qin Feiyang gazed towards the deep mountains again, his eyes flickering. Suddenly, he declared, "Elder Shi, I need to go into the deep mountains."
"Absolutely not!" Shi Zheng refused outright.
The four guards and the surrounding crowd also hurriedly tried to dissuade him, insisting that the deep mountains were too dangerous and he shouldn’t risk it.
"I must go!" Qin Feiyang’s gaze was resolute.
But just as he took his first step—
"Look out, someone’s flying over!" someone cried out in alarm.
People looked in the direction of the shout and indeed saw a streak of light cutting across the sky, heading towards Yan City.
Before they even arrived, a terrifying aura preceded them, sweeping over everything. Those present felt as if they had plunged into a bottomless abyss; an overwhelming sense of dread washed over them.
"They really are flying!"
"Who are they? We’ve never seen them before!"
The crowd was aghast.
Qin Feiyang also frowned. The newcomers were an old woman and a young girl.
The old woman was hunched over, holding an eagle-headed walking stick. She wore a deep green robe, and her gaunt face was etched with wrinkles. But her eyes blazed with a sharp brilliance, like an eagle’s!
The younger one was a girl of about fifteen or sixteen. She had a tall, well-proportioned figure, and her delicate face was like a masterpiece. A light green long dress enhanced her sweet and elegant demeanor.
These were two faces they had never seen before!
But what astonished Qin Feiyang was that the green-robed old woman’s aura was in no way inferior to Elder Wan’s.
Could they be reclusive experts? Qin Feiyang wondered. But judging by their attire, there was nothing simple or rustic about them; they didn’t look like reclusive masters.
"Elder Shi, is she a War Emperor from Star Moon City?" Qin Feiyang asked in a low voice.
He had met all of Yan City’s War Emperors. Only the War Emperors of Star Moon City were unfamiliar to him.
"No," Elder Shi shook his head.
"No?" Qin Feiyang was astonished. If she’s not from Yan City or Star Moon City, then where did this green-robed old woman come from?
Shi Zheng added, "I’ve never seen them either."
"What?" This truly surprised Qin Feiyang. Shi Zheng was a Nine-Star War King and knew practically all the experts in Yan Province. Even he hadn’t seen them.
WHOOSH!
The old woman and the young girl landed before the city gate.
BOOM!
Instantly, a horrifying War Emperor’s might erupted from the green-robed old woman like a tidal wave, pressing down on everyone.
THUMP!
Most people immediately fell to their knees. A smaller number struggled for a moment before also succumbing. Even Shi Zheng’s legs trembled uncontrollably; he gritted his teeth, resisting the pressure, his face contorted with the effort.
Are they here with ill intent? Qin Feiyang frowned. He stood steadily before the city gate, his feet not trembling in the slightest, as if he couldn’t feel the War Emperor’s might at all.
Having grown up by the Emperor’s side, he wasn’t afraid of imperial might, let alone the might of a mere War Emperor. Across the entire Great Qin Empire, perhaps only the Emperor himself possessed an aura that could force him to his knees.
"EH!"
The green-robed old woman and the green-clad girl both looked at Qin Feiyang, seeming somewhat surprised.
Qin Feiyang glanced coolly at the two, then walked past them and started running towards the deep mountains.
"Qin Feiyang, you can’t go!" Shi Zheng growled.
"Qin Feiyang?"
The green-clad girl and the old woman were taken aback, turning to look at Qin Feiyang’s departing figure, a strange light flickering in their eyes.
"You, stop!" the green-clad girl called out. Her voice was beautiful, like the song of an oriole, clear and elegant. Her attitude, however, was rather arrogant.
"Is there a problem?" Qin Feiyang raised an eyebrow, turning to look at the girl.
The green-clad girl said, "Are you that Qin Feiyang who’s been causing such a stir in Yan Province lately?"
"Boring," Qin Feiyang replied, turning away immediately.
"AH!" The green-clad girl’s eyebrows shot up; she seemed unaccustomed to being ignored like this.
"Princess, don’t worry. Sooner or later, you will confront him directly," the green-robed old woman said hoarsely, retracting her oppressive aura.
"You’re right," the green-clad girl nodded.
"Princess?" Shi Zheng wiped the sweat from his forehead, cast a suspicious glance at the pair, and then hurried after Qin Feiyang.
The green-robed old woman also led the green-clad girl directly into Yan City.
The four guards glanced at each other, unsure of what to do. They too had heard the word "Princess."
Only the daughter of a Commandery Prince is entitled to be called ’Princess’! But King Yan... doesn’t seem to have a daughter, does he?
In the end, two of the guards ran into the city, following the green-clad pair to prevent them from causing trouble in Yan City.
At the same time, Shi Zheng caught up with Qin Feiyang, grabbed his arm, and said angrily, "Why are you being so reckless? Are those deep mountains somewhere you can just go?"
"I can’t just leave White-Eyed Wolf."
"Besides, I suspect it left Yan City because it discovered something," Qin Feiyang said gravely.
Shi Zheng frowned, then finally gritted his teeth and nodded. "Alright, I’ll go with you!"
"HUH?"
Just as he finished speaking, he suddenly looked up towards the forest in the distance, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.
A white wolf, covered in wounds, burst out from the woods.
Who else could it be but the Wolf King?
Shi Zheng exclaimed in pleasant surprise, "Look, it’s the Wolf King!"
Qin Feiyang spun around, his face instantly lighting up with joy, which was immediately replaced by anger!
When the Wolf King ran closer, Qin Feiyang, without a word, kicked it, shouting, "What were you doing running off into the deep mountains? Do you have any idea how worried I was!"
The Wolf King scrambled up awkwardly, baring its teeth with a ferocious snarl—clearly furious. But upon hearing Qin Feiyang’s words, its anger vanished instantly.
It chuckled sheepishly, "My apologies, it won’t happen again!"
"If there’s a next time, I’ll skin you and make stew out of you!" Qin Feiyang shouted angrily.
The Wolf King replied, "Alright, alright, have it your way. But Brother Wolf had his reasons. Last night, Brother Wolf discovered the Lin family’s Old Ancestor sneaking out of Yan City, so I followed him to see what was going on."
"Even so, you should have told us first! It’s dangerous for you to run off alone like that!" Qin Feiyang said.
The Wolf King replied impatiently, "It’s nothing! See, aren’t I perfectly fine?"
Qin Feiyang glared at it, then frowned. "You said the Lin family’s Old Ancestor secretly snuck out of Yan City last night?"
"That’s right."
"What’s even stranger is that he didn’t fly; he walked out of the city gate," the Wolf King said.
A chill ran down Qin Feiyang’s spine. The Lin family’s Old Ancestor was a War Emperor, no longer bound by ordinary rules. Why would he walk? That was too strange.
Qin Feiyang said, "That’s not right. He’s a War Emperor, after all. Didn’t he notice you tracking him?"
"Do you think Brother Wolf is stupid?"
"Brother Wolf tracked him by scent from a great distance."
"But I lost his trail not long after."
"I originally planned to come back and tell you immediately, but I ran into a few reckless ferocious beasts on the way and nearly died," the Wolf King said helplessly.
Qin Feiyang rolled his eyes, took out a Top Grade healing elixir, and stuffed it into its mouth, growling, "We’ll see if you dare to run off alone again!"
The Wolf King snapped, "Brother Wolf was risking his life tracking him! Shouldn’t you at least say thank you? Instead, you just keep nagging. So annoying!"
Qin Feiyang was so angry that smoke practically billowed from his head.
"Fine."
"Thank you, Uncle Wolf."
"Hmph!"
With a cold snort, he turned and walked towards the city gate.
"What were you two talking about?" Shi Zheng asked, looking bewildered at the man and the wolf.
Qin Feiyang said in a low voice, "I need to go to the Lin family to confirm something."
"Go to the Lin family?"
The Wolf King was startled and quickly caught up to Qin Feiyang. "We can’t go to the Lin family! If the Lin family’s Old Ancestor really is up to something, won’t he kill us to silence us if we go asking? So even if we go, we should bring Old Wan and the others with us."
"I know what I’m doing," Qin Feiyang replied, his eyes glinting.
Arriving at the city gate, Qin Feiyang looked at the two remaining guards and smiled. "Brothers, did any important figures leave Yan City last night?"
"Important figures?" The two guards thought for a moment.
"The Lin family’s Old Ancestor left."
"But you know his status and strength; we didn’t dare question him."
"He didn’t say a word and just left."
"Why? Is there a problem with him?" the two guards asked, looking at Qin Feiyang in confusion.
"No, just asking casually," Qin Feiyang smiled, then asked, "Has he returned?"
"We haven’t seen him return."
"But for an expert like him, he wouldn’t necessarily use the city gate. It’s possible he flew into the city from another direction," the two guards said.
"Thank you, brothers," Qin Feiyang said with a cupped fist salute and a smile, then led the Wolf King and Shi Zheng into the city.
The Wolf King used mental transmission, "Xiao Qinzi, there’s something wrong with those guards."
"What makes you say that?" Qin Feiyang asked, keeping his expression neutral.
The Wolf King said, "Last night, Brother Wolf clearly saw them talking quietly with the Lin family’s Old Ancestor for a while. But just now, they claimed the Old Ancestor didn’t utter a single word. Don’t you find that strange?"
"Why would they lie?" Qin Feiyang frowned.
「Two hours later, the two men and a wolf arrived before the main gate of the Lin family estate.」
"Greetings, Master Qin."
The two house servants guarding the gate immediately bowed.
"I need to see your Old Ancestor about a matter. Please inform him," Qin Feiyang said with a smile and a cupped fist salute.
He had a hunch that the Lin family’s Old Ancestor might be a clue, a breakthrough point.
