"Little bunny, let Grandma love you dearly!"
The werewolf lunged fiercely at Bai Xiaomi. Though it was a male werewolf, it had clearly embraced the role of "Grandma."
Bai Xiaomi swiftly kicked at the werewolf. Her greatest strength was her jumping ability, a racial talent of rabbits.
Wen Wen had once suspected that Lin Lu’s powerful kicks suggested her abilities were also rabbit-related.
However, her kick only forced the werewolf back two steps. Its sturdy muscles easily shrugged off such an attack.
Aside from the venom in its teeth, the werewolf’s entire combat prowess stemmed from its formidable physique. Both its resilience and attack power ranked it among the top monsters of its level.
Seeing her attack fail, despair flashed across Bai Xiaomi’s face. To dodge the werewolf’s initial strike, she had retreated to the doorway of a house, effectively cornered with no way to escape using her speed.
As the werewolf closed in, she had no choice but to duck into the house and lock the door.
She had only intended to use the door as a temporary barrier, but to her surprise, it actually held the werewolf at bay.
Judging by its furious expression, it wasn’t afraid of anything inside the house—it simply didn’t want to destroy the building with its immense strength.
All the buildings in the town were royal property, and rashly destroying one would incur the wrath of the terrifying Little Red Riding Hood.
But letting the rabbit go was out of the question. The werewolf crouched by the door, growling menacingly, “Little bunny, be good and open the door! Open it quick, I’m coming in!”
Bai Xiaomi rolled her eyes at the werewolf. She wasn’t foolish enough to comply.
“No way, no way, I’m not opening it! You big bad guy can’t come in!”
Having gained temporary safety, she sent a distress signal to Wen Wen through their linked chains. Though the werewolf was currently blocked by the door, it could barge in and grab her anytime it wanted.
But Wen Wen didn’t respond immediately. At that moment, he was deliberating.
He had two options. The first was to use his connection with Bai Xiaomi through the chains to directly enter Fairy Tale Town and easily dismember the werewolf.
Wen Wen could use the chains to teleport to the side of any monster he controlled—a new ability he’d gained from Wen Li, combined with the powers of the Containment Facility.
However, entering Fairy Tale Town like this without understanding its intricacies would be reckless. He needed at least some assurance of an escape route before going in.
The second option was to pull Bai Xiaomi back into the Containment Facility and have her re-enter the exploration later. While this would waste some time, it was the safest choice.
As the werewolf outside grew increasingly impatient and began preparing to smash the house, Wen Wen suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure through Bai Xiaomi’s perspective.
Watching the figure’s movements, Wen Wen smiled and spoke to Bai Xiaomi through the chains.
“Hold on a bit longer. It’ll be fine soon.”
With that, Wen Wen teleported to Cell No. 3 in the Disaster Zone—the cell of the Scavenger Demon.
The Scavenger Demon stood there blankly as always. Without consulting it, Wen Wen directly implanted the chains into its body.
Though the Scavenger Demon wouldn’t resist, the implantation process took time. If it couldn’t hold up during this period, Wen Wen would forcibly pull Bai Xiaomi into the Containment Facility.
While Bai Xiaomi wasn’t particularly strong, she was still his asset, and he couldn’t let her be ruined by a crude werewolf.
…
Upon waking again, Li Dazhuang found himself still lying in the same courtyard as before. He pounded his head hard, looking at the scattered insect corpses around him. He realized none of this was a dream—everything he’d experienced was real.
Surrounding him were piles of insect corpses, but the body with the pierced chest was gone. It seemed that while he was unconscious, the insects had devoured it completely.
But why was he unharmed?
He clearly remembered being targeted by a terrifying monster before he passed out. Why was he now safe and sound?
As he thought about the monster, Li Dazhuang froze in terror. Something seemed to emerge from his back, and a yellow-green monster slithered over his shoulder, appearing before him.
“Hello, Master. First meeting… I am your Guardian of Misfortune.”
The monster spoke haltingly. Its body, a mix of earthy yellow and green, was nauseating to look at for too long.
“My Guardian of Misfortune… and you’re calling me Master? What’s going on?” Li Dazhuang was confused, unable to make sense of it.
The Guardian of Misfortune continued, “I am… your power… you can command me… to fight!”
After a difficult conversation, Li Dazhuang finally understood what this Guardian of Misfortune was.
As he’d once fantasized, he had indeed awakened a superpower, but it wasn’t what he’d imagined.
This superpower was like a soldier that obeyed his commands. When not given orders, it would autonomously protect him. Upon receiving commands, the Guardian of Misfortune would execute them strictly.
The Guardian of Misfortune—or rather, Li Dazhuang’s own ability—was to manipulate misfortune, infecting enemies with bad luck that was hard to shake off. While its direct combat power was weak, its potential impact was immense.
And while bestowing misfortune on others, Li Dazhuang’s own luck would improve significantly.
After becoming a superhuman, Li Dazhuang also recalled memories that had been erased by a memory wiper.
From birth, his luck had been exceptionally poor, often encountering terrifying situations, yet he always managed to escape unscathed.
The most horrifying parts of these memories had been erased by the Hunters’ Association, allowing him to live a relatively normal life before.
Unawakened, both his luck and misfortune were bound to him, leading to his bizarre experiences.
But after awakening, the misfortune part split off, forming the Guardian of Misfortune. From then on, he would truly become luckier.
After understanding his ability, Li Dazhuang looked bitterly at the tattered, bulky leather suit he wore. It was ugly and cumbersome, and he really didn’t want to wear it.
But it was the only thing he had as clothing—there was nothing underneath—so he had no choice.
Having regained his memories, he naturally recalled Jiao Xinlei, who had tried to warn him but was captured again, and Tao Wen, who was trapped with him in Fairy Tale Town.
“Tao Wen has faced danger so many times because of me. This time, I have to get him out!”
