As the staff made arrangements, Wen Wen entered the examination hall. It was divided into small cubicles, seemingly shrouded in a special power that prevented superhumans from seeing each other's papers.
However, such a setup was insufficient to stop demon hunters, so additional measures were in place within each cubicle.
Wen Wen sighed, looking at a lively eyeball positioned forty centimeters in front of his own eyes.
"Can you move a little further away? I get nervous when you're too close…" The eyeball jiggled twice, indicating that was not possible.
Hmm… this eyeball was only forty centimeters away from Wen Wen, making it the strictest invigilator he had ever encountered.
However, Wen Wen had no intention of cheating, as he had already reviewed the material.
There were two sets of papers laid out before Wen Wen. One was the Demon Hunter's Code, which Wen Wen had already reviewed and answered with ease.
The other was a situational questionnaire, where all questions presented a scenario and asked the demon hunter how they would handle it.
"There shouldn't be a standard answer to these types of questions, so I'll just answer them according to my own preferences."
The first question was: A civilian deceives and obstructs you while you are performing your mission. How should you proceed?
Wen Wen's answer was: 'Beat the shit out of him, then beat him with his own shit, and finally, beat him into his own shit…'
He was truly one of a kind…
Wen Wen submitted his papers with a sense of relief, having only spent an hour and a half.
Upon exiting, an assistant approached him: "Sir, please follow me. It's time for the second part of the assessment."
Following the assistant, Wen Wen arrived at a separate building. The doors were neatly arranged, making each room in the building seem rather small.
Wen Wen was led into a room containing a machine the size of a coffin. The sides of the room were entirely made of glass.
Opposite the machine sat a man and a woman, each with a screen in front of them.
After entering the room, Wen Wen surveyed its size, then walked to the glass and pressed his finger against it. He then smiled and said,
"As I suspected, I was wondering why the width of this room felt a bit off. This is one-way glass. The rooms on either side are observation rooms, and there are likely people watching me right now."
"You are not investigating a case, you are undergoing an assessment. Please return to your seat," the woman said, tapping her desk with a slight headache.
Wen Wen obediently returned to his seat and reached out to touch the machine behind him, which intrigued him the most.
The man tapped his desk again: "Mr. Wen, this is the venue for the second assessment. You will soon enter the machine behind you. Within it, you will enter a virtual space through sleep. Completing the tasks according to the space's prompts is the content of the second assessment."
"Is it the ability of a containment, or a high-tech product?" Wen Wen asked, like a curious child.
The woman gave a wry smile and said, "That is classified. We cannot answer that. Please enter quickly."
Superhumans at the Assimilation realm were rarely well-behaved; they encountered all sorts of oddities during their annual assessments.
"Oh…"
Wen Wen responded, and the machine behind him automatically opened. After he lay down, the machine's lid closed automatically, making it feel even more like a coffin to Wen Wen.
The coffin was brightly lit, and a camera was positioned directly in front of Wen Wen's face.
"It seems they also want to observe my expression… Perhaps this assessment isn't just about completing tasks in the virtual space."
White gas appeared in the coffin. After inhaling it, Wen Wen felt a wave of drowsiness but offered no resistance, as the assessment required him to enter a state of sleep.
In his daze, Wen Wen heard the female assessor's voice: "You may encounter some uncomfortable scenes during the assessment. We apologize for any distress, but it is all in the interest of selecting the most suitable containment personnel."
Then, Wen Wen fell asleep…
When Wen Wen opened his eyes, he found himself sitting on a chair. In front of him was a table with a handgun and a notice board.
The notice board stated the task requirement: "Identify the anomaly before you and resolve it."
Immediately after, two men entered the room simultaneously. The two men looked identical, except one was wearing red and the other blue.
The man in red sat on the floor and bit his finger, drawing circles on the ground. The man in blue walked in, smiling at Wen Wen, but his subtle trembling indicated he was very nervous.
"Find the anomaly between these two… this assessment is too easy."
Wen Wen gave a contemptuous smile and didn't rush to identify the target, opting instead to observe the virtual space.
Everything here was strikingly similar to reality, feeling akin to an illusion, yet traces of artificial design were evident in many places.
Wen Wen's strength seemed to be limited here, possessing only the power of the Exploration realm, with his abilities merely making him stronger than an ordinary person.
"It appears this assessment's purpose is to judge my decision-making and analytical skills when dealing with supernatural events, not my raw power. Thus, the strength of the Exploration realm is more than sufficient."
After figuring all this out, some time had passed, and the behavior of the two men had escalated. The man in red was no longer content with drawing circles on the floor; he stood up and began writing illegible symbols on the wall with blood. Wen Wen recognized these symbols as belonging to the hidden world's script.
In the official documentation of the Hunter Association, this script was referred to as 'Anomalous Script,' while in the mouths of the monsters of the hidden world, it was known as 'Words of Truth.'
As more of these characters were written, the room began to feel peculiar. Merely by being written, the characters could conjure certain anomalies.
Meanwhile, the man in blue watched the man in red with fear and coincidentally brewed a cup of hot coffee to offer Wen Wen.
Wen Wen accepted the coffee, gauged its temperature, then smiled kindly at the man in blue before directly stepping on his toe.
The man in blue froze for a moment, then sat on the ground, howling in pain as he clutched his foot.
Wen Wen stroked his chin and said, "Hmm… the scream wasn't quite agonizing enough."
With that, he poured the hot coffee directly onto the man in blue's face. The heat contorted his features, and his skin began to change color.
The man let out an unpleasant roar, his mouth splitting into four lobes. His entire head transformed into a monstrous visage before he lunged ferociously at Wen Wen.
However, Wen Wen, having anticipated this, shot him in the knee, forcing him to his knees.
"Why me? His situation is clearly more severe!"
The man roared at Wen Wen in frustration. He had performed perfectly, showing no weaknesses, so why was this person targeting him?
Wen Wen slowly aimed the gun at the man's forehead and said, "Normally, with my personality, I wouldn't explain. But your question implies the assessor's inquiry, so I'll let you die with some understanding."
