Chapter 291 The Underground Labyrinth

When the disaster-level containment, everyone erupted in discussion, murmuring amongst themselves.

All of them were superhumans in the Assimilation realm, and none were unaware of what a disaster-level containment entailed – absolute power and danger.

"Are we really alright facing a disaster-level containment head-on?" a demon hunter stepped forward, frowning.

Xun Qing waved his hand. "Don't worry, the core of the containment is heavily sealed underground. You will only be facing its derivatives."

"This containment is named 'The Nest of Destruction,' and it continuously spawns small monsters until these small monsters fill all habitable spaces. Your examination area is the vast underground labyrinth where The Nest of Destruction is confined."

"The spawned small monsters range in strength from Catastrophe-level to Calamity-level, and they are highly aggressive towards all non-derivative monsters. As long as you hunt at least ten disaster-level monsters or one calamity-level monster within, you will pass this assessment."

Hearing that they wouldn't have to face the disaster-level entity directly, everyone felt more at ease. Wen Wen, however, was already calculating how to capture monsters here.

Xun Qing waved his hand, and a team of assistants came forward, distributing pale blue crystals to the demon hunters.

"When you encounter danger or complete your mission, you can crush this crystal, and you will be teleported out of the underground labyrinth."

The woman in blue armor raised an eyebrow. "Teleported?"

Xun Qing explained amiably, "Yes, this underground labyrinth is completely sealed, and it's impossible to enter or exit through normal means. Also, the monsters have a small, bulbous tumor on their foreheads. Cutting off that tumor counts as completing a hunt."

Next, Xun Qing stated some more precautions, then asked Wen Wen and the others, "Does anyone have any more questions? If not, please proceed to the examination area."

After he finished speaking, a superhuman with blue hair appeared out of nowhere, displaying a faint blue aura in his hand, enveloping everyone.

Many superhumans resisted the blue light. Seeing this, Xun Qing explained, "Please do not resist. This person is a superhuman with spatial abilities, and he will be sending you into the examination area."

Hearing his words, the others consciously relaxed their bodies.

Then, the teleportation began. To Wen Wen's amazed gaze, the demon hunters vanished one by one into the air. Soon, it was Wen Wen's turn.

As everyone disappeared one after another, Xun Qing sighed, "Every year, demon hunters die here. I wonder when this will end."

After teleporting everyone, the blue-haired superhuman, drenched in sweat, shook his head. "It won't end. With The Nest of Destruction's abilities, the monsters produced in a year will fill the underground labyrinth. If people are not sent to clear them out regularly, the monster population will explode exponentially. That would be the true disaster."

"Even though we are trying our best to control it, such high-level containments have never decreased; on the contrary, they are increasing. We can only hope that a superhuman can become strong enough to destroy The Nest of Destruction," Xun Qing said helplessly.

The blue-haired superhuman looked up at the sky. "Only a superhuman in the 'Transcendence' realm can do that. It's a pity... the Association doesn't have any superhumans of that level."

...

When the blue light enveloped Wen Wen, he felt a subtle, sluggish sensation. Then, the scenery before his eyes abruptly vanished, as if he had entered a blue ocean.

Next, Wen Wen's body experienced violent tearing and disorientation. When this sensation disappeared, Wen Wen was already standing on solid ground.

"Is this what spatial teleportation feels like? The Containment Facility should also use spatial teleportation, but it's much more comfortable than this," he complained discontentedly. After this teleportation, Wen Wen felt uncomfortable all over.

Then, Wen Wen began to observe his surroundings. Firstly, it was pitch black, and he couldn't see anything.

In terms of sound, he could only hear the dripping of water onto the ground and the faint sounds of small creatures like insects.

"There's a damp, earthy smell. We're definitely underground. Tsk, I really can't see anything. It seems overcoming blindness is the biggest challenge here."

Even for Wen Wen, facing such an environment caused some discomfort. Darkness could evoke human fear. Ahead might be a monster with its jaws agape, or a bottomless pit.

In this place where one couldn't see their hand in front of their face, a single misstep could lead to eternal damnation.

Wen Wen stood still and used Yan Biqing's ability to maximize his vision. Only then could he vaguely see the outlines of his surroundings, but they were merely outlines.

The light here was too faint; what the naked eye could perceive was already the extreme.

"If an ordinary person were here, they might go mad."

It was deathly silent, with no sound and no light. The long underground tunnels had countless branches, and no matter where one went, it was difficult to find a way back.

In the precautions before entering, Xun Qing had mentioned that many demon hunters were not killed by monsters but got lost in the vast underground tunnels.

The only beacons that could guide them out were the blue crystals. If a crystal was lost, there was no way to get out. The outcome would be to die in despair in the darkness or to become food for those monsters.

This underground labyrinth, capable of binding a disaster-level containment, could naturally trap superhumans as well.

Gradually, the silence here was broken by faint, peculiar footsteps. In this lightless environment, the sudden appearance of these footsteps made them even more terrifying.

Wen Wen could sense that these footsteps did not belong to humans, nor did they resemble any creature he knew.

This underground labyrinth had come alive. With over a hundred superhumans appearing in it, it was like placing lively loaches into a still pond, quickly stirring up waves.

Countless hidden monsters began to roam the labyrinth, seeking out vulnerable superhumans to devour.

An atmosphere of fear spread through the dark underground passages. They thought it would be a feast.

But the prey they intended to devour was far more powerful than they imagined, and they, too, wanted to hunt these monsters!

"Hmm... In this environment, perhaps this physique is more suitable."

Sensing the monsters gathering around him, Wen Wen chuckled, tapping a few times on his wrist. Then, his entire body transformed into a giant incandescent light bulb.

A pair of pure white wings unfurled from his back, each feather as dazzling as a flashbang!

The monsters surrounding Wen Wen let out pained roars and began to flee in disarray!
