Chapter 1 The Beginning
At one o'clock in the afternoon, with a gentle breeze, Wen Wen, dressed in a black trench coat, stepped out of a taxi and arrived in front of a villa, which was the residence of the woman he had spoken to on the phone earlier.
Although it wasn't a supernatural case, Wen Wen decided to take it on... because the family was wealthy.
Mr. Wilson, the male head of this family, was a mining tycoon in the Aifei District. With his own mines, he naturally had no shortage of money.
A year ago, they were traveling in another city in the Huafu District and got involved in a troublesome case. Wen Wen had helped them resolve the trouble, so they knew each other.
Now they had settled in Furonghe City, planning to enjoy their retirement here.
Speaking of settling down, over a hundred years ago, the Federation no longer had the concept of countries, but was divided into ten different major districts.
These were the Huafu District, where Wen Wen resided and was predominantly populated by people of East Asian descent; the vast and sparsely populated White Bear District, known for its robust inhabitants; the economically developed America-Canada District; the Australia-Kangaroo District, rich in rare animals; the India-Gua District, skilled in "cheating"... And so on, a total of ten districts. Federation citizens could live anywhere, so while the Huafu District had a majority of people of East Asian descent, there were also many people of other races.
The business of earning a living could not be abandoned, especially the business from wealthy families like the Wilsons, so Wen Wen rang the villa's doorbell.
After a while, a middle-aged maid opened the door and led Wen Wen in. He met Mrs. Wilson, Melissa, smoothly.
Melissa was a woman with dark skin and curly hair. By the aesthetic standards of the Huafu District, she wouldn't be considered a beauty. However, most people from the Aifei District were like this, and in Wilson's eyes, who was also from the Aifei District, she should be very beautiful.
"Mrs. Wilson, you said your husband is missing. Did you call the police?" Wen Wen took out a small notebook and asked while recording.
"I reported it two days ago. They kept saying they were trying their best to find him, but there's still no result. Besides, some things are not clear over the phone, and I don't want the police to know. You're the only one who can help me," Melissa said, wiping away a tear.
Wen Wen curled his lip. "You say only I can help, but then why did you only come to me two days after reporting it? After two days, many clues would be difficult to find."
"Alright, I'll do my best to find him. Before Mr. Wilson disappeared, was there anything unusual?"
Despite his annoyance, Wen Wen accepted the commission. He was much stronger in all aspects now, and even if several days had passed, he was confident he could complete the task.
Mrs. Wilson hesitated, then said to Wen Wen, "There was nothing unusual before he left, but he left a recording when he departed."
Wen Wen touched his chin. He left a recording, so he left on his own?
"Let me listen to that recording."
Mrs. Wilson asked the maid to step aside, then took out a recorder and pressed play.
"Melissa, I'm going out for a while, don't worry."
Wen Wen keenly noticed the sound of violent impacts in the recording. Was Wilson being coerced into saying this?
"Damn it, don't you move around randomly! Listen to me, don't tell anyone about me leaving. I've encountered some problems, but they'll be resolved soon."
Faintly, the sound of metal friction could be heard.
Wen Wen raised an eyebrow. It seemed he wasn't being coerced; someone being coerced wouldn't speak so forcefully.
"Oh god, how do I get this thing off me..." The last sentence was very quiet, and it sounded like Wilson was moving away.
After listening to the recording, Wen Wen became interested. This might not be a simple missing person case.
"Where did you get this recording?"
"I found it in my husband's study. His room was a complete mess. Was he kidnapped?" Melissa asked nervously.
Wen Wen shook his head and said, "It's too early to say. Take me to your husband's study, perhaps I can find some clues."
Upon entering the study, it was indeed as Mrs. Wilson had described—a scene of utter chaos, more severe than a robbery. Some places looked as if they had been chopped by an axe.
"Did the police come here?" Wen Wen, wearing a pair of gloves, began to investigate the study.
"They did," Melissa said, glancing at Wen Wen cautiously. "Will that have any impact?"
"Many valuable clues might have been destroyed, but it's alright. Please wait outside; I need to conduct some investigations here."
Normally, Wen Wen would use this as an excuse to ask Mrs. Wilson for an increased fee, but his mind wasn't on that now. He had found something interesting.
The destruction in the room was strange. It didn't look like someone was deliberately searching for something, nor did it look like a struggle had taken place. It was as if the destruction was purely for the sake of it.
This kind of aimless destruction was like a pet at home being destructive out of boredom, with no pattern or reason, just on a different scale.
Wen Wen ran his hand over an axe-like mark, and his pupils suddenly contracted.
It was a bookshelf that had been split open, which wasn't surprising. Bookshelves themselves couldn't withstand forceful chopping.
But at the joints of the bookshelf's wooden planks, the steel nails used for fixing were also severed cleanly, as if they were made of wood!
An ordinary person with an axe absolutely could not achieve this!
Even a chainsaw wouldn't work!
Combining these traces with Wilson's mention of something attached to him in the recording, Wen Wen could almost conclude that this was another supernatural event!
Finding clues to a supernatural event made Wen Wen somewhat excited.
Through the intelligence channels of the Hunter Association, one could find many leads to supernatural cases, but most of these cases were under the association's surveillance. It was fine for Wen Wen to handle them, but if the bodies disappeared after being dealt with, there might be problems. Even with just a possibility, Wen Wen didn't want to take risks.
Therefore, this was a purely solitary supernatural case for him. He could completely put the entity attached to Mr. Wilson into the Containment Facility and gain another ability!
"It's confirmed as a supernatural case, which makes things much easier to explain. There's something attached to Wilson, but this entity and Mr. Wilson are separate individuals and cannot control each other...
Mr. Wilson was worried about being seen in his state, so he went out to hide...
So, what is attached to him?"
Wen Wen searched the room again and found an opened empty wooden box. Inside the box, there were metal scratches, similar to the destruction marks in the study.
He found Mrs. Wilson and asked, "What was in this box?"
Melissa recognized it and said uncertainly, "This seems to be a collectible he brought from the Aifei District. It's a pair of metal wings he dug out from a mine. He thought the craftsmanship was exquisite, so he brought it home to collect."
Wen Wen's eyes lit up. It was it!
