Chapter 32 The Hunter

The old town's planning was not good, with many dead ends between the streets and alleys. Soon, the frantic girl in the maid outfit ran into a dead end.

Leaning against the tall brick wall, she looked with a face full of terror at the two men who were steadily approaching.

Wen Wen, standing on the rooftop, rubbed his chin, smiling like a fox who had stolen eggs. Saving a damsel in distress was cliché, but carrying it out could bring a great sense of accomplishment.

If they had the ability and courage, most men would not miss this opportunity.

"Hmm, I should wait a bit longer, until she's at her most desperate before I descend. This is the most dramatic moment."

"I've been looking for carrion demons for days and I'm sick of it. Since I've decided to save you, I might as well have some fun using the opportunity to save you. Don't blame me..."

...

Downstairs, the girl cowered in the corner of the wall, looking at the two approaching men with fear, but a deeply hidden look of smugness in her eyes.

"After so long, this immortal maiden has finally found a clue. Soon these two pigs will lead me to their lair..."

The middle-aged uncle reached out his hand to the girl. Beneath her terrified expression, there was a hidden smile, but in the next moment, her little face turned as black as the bottom of a pot!

Because a shining dagger fell from the sky, piercing the uncle's shoulder and pinning him firmly to the ground!

The uncle let out a low growl, bracing himself on the ground and struggling violently, trying to get up.

"Still has the strength to struggle... As expected, not human. Then I'll get serious!"

Wen Wen jumped down from the rooftop without any cushioning, landing directly on the middle-aged uncle. The immense impact shattered the uncle's spine. He struggled weakly a few times before finally collapsing to the ground.

The man in the suit beside him expressionlessly pulled out a small knife and lunged at Wen Wen. But Wen Wen merely dodged it by tilting his head slightly. Then, he pushed the man in the suit's chest with his left hand, pinning him against the wall. The vampire's strength made the man unable to move.

Wen Wen's Disaster Containment Facility gloves appeared, and chains extended towards the man in the suit. But they retracted quickly, as if disgusted, after only a small section was revealed.

"Tch... Turns out he's a weakling that even the Containment Facility wouldn't bother with."

Confirming he was worthless, Wen Wen directly slit the man in the suit's throat with the dagger. Scarlet, yet slightly foul-smelling blood sprayed out. He then calmly took a step back, not letting a single drop of blood stain his clothes.

Well, this was a perfect hero-saves-the-damsel operation. Next, he just needed to act cool in front of her and then ruthlessly abandon her...

"Miss, it's best not to be out alone in the middle of the night. If you hadn't met me..."

"If I hadn't met you, how could my plan have failed!" the girl said with a stern face, her anger about to overflow.

Wen Wen froze for a moment, realizing the situation was a bit off. He said dryly, "Miss, calling yourself 'lao niang' is a bit crude."

"Crude? And you call me crude?"

The girl stood with her hands on her hips, looking at Wen Wen, her anger irrepressible. "I planned all day to get myself captured just right, and now that the plan has just begun, you've killed them!"

Wen Wen scratched his head. "You let them catch you on purpose? You have quite a peculiar taste. I admit defeat."

The girl: "..."

Wen Wen waved his hand. "Regardless, even though I ruined your plan, I also saved you. Let's just let this matter go."

The girl gritted her teeth. "Do you think I needed saving?"

Wen Wen glanced at her a few times. She had a pure face and a hot body, exactly the type bad guys liked. So he nodded and said, "I think you really did."

"Since you say so, let's spar a few rounds. But if you can't beat me, you have to help me finish this."

Wen Wen shrugged. "As you wish. But if I win, you have to be prepared for what I might do to you."

As soon as he agreed, Wen Wen's pupils suddenly constricted because a delicate fist was coming straight for his face.

He was about to dodge, but he could feel that no matter how he dodged, he would be hit by this punch!

This woman was a master, and not just any master!

Before he could finish marveling, Wen Wen, the once majestic Detective Wen, was knocked to the ground by this seemingly frail fist.

He sat up abruptly and looked at the girl innocently. "We haven't even started, why did you hit me!"

The girl walked over to Wen Wen and kicked him a couple of times. "Get up quickly. Since you messed up my plan, you have to help me complete it."

Wen Wen sighed and stood up, feeling somewhat speechless. He had originally just wanted to relax and play the old trick of saving the damsel in distress.

But the actual unfolding of events was far beyond his expectations.

Since this woman was so powerful, why didn't she resist? Was she a masochist?

The hero-saves-the-damsel stories in books were all lies...

...

Half an hour later, in a booth in the corner of a bar, Wen Wen was applying an ice pack to his face, looking resentfully at the clear-faced girl opposite him.

A few men tried to strike up a conversation, but after being knocked down by the woman twice, no one else dared.

"A bet is a bet. Since you won, I'll help you. Tell me, what do you want me to do?" Wen Wen said with a throbbing tooth. He found that after being injured by this woman, his self-healing ability couldn't recover!

The girl covered her wine glass and took a small sip of her cocktail, her face slightly flushed. "What you need to do is simple: find that guy. The rest is up to me."

Find what?

A monster or a person?

Wen Wen gave a bitter smile. "Can you give me a simple introduction? At least let me understand what's going on."

"This is classified. If you hear it, you must help me find it," the girl whispered, feigning mystery.

"Alright, then I won't listen," Wen Wen said bluffly.

"You already promised to help me, if you don't listen, I'll beat you up!" the girl threatened, waving her fist.

How could a grown man like Wen Wen be threatened by a young woman? So he obediently listened as the girl explained the situation.

"First, let me introduce myself. My name is Gu Panxi, and I am a roaming hunter," the girl said to Wen Wen in a boastful tone.

"You're... a roaming hunter?" Wen Wen looked at the girl named Gu Panxi in shock, his eyes filled with disbelief.

The girl proudly raised her head, her fair neck revealing clearly visible pale blue veins.

Even though the girl admitted it, Wen Wen still found it hard to believe. Roaming hunters were a tier higher than the demon hunters stationed in various places. They traveled the world, dealing with monsters that the branch guilds couldn't handle.

Only supernaturals who reached Sequence Three, 'Assimilation,' in the five sequences of supernaturals were qualified to become roaming hunters. Above them were the top figures of the Hunter Association, people at the pinnacle of the supernatural world.

And Gu Panxi looked only sixteen or seventeen, like a schoolgirl. At this age, could she possess such strength?

"However... if she's a roaming hunter, it makes sense."

Such overwhelming strength, ordinary demon hunters couldn't achieve it. Wen Wen even suspected that Lin Zheyuan couldn't do it.

This was the first time Wen Wen had encountered a supernatural with such strength, which was why he had obediently followed her to this bar.

Wen Wen assumed a relaxed posture, like Ge You, and said to her, "Go ahead, I'm listening."

"Captain Lin mentioned you to me. You seem to be very skilled at tracking, so I want you to help me find a monster," Gu Panxi stated her request.

"What monster?"

Wen Wen became interested. A monster that a roaming hunter was so diligently pursuing must be very powerful. If he could capture it and put it into the Containment Facility, Wen Wen's overall combat ability would greatly increase!

Gu Panxi took a sip of her drink, then whispered in a voice only Wen Wen could hear.

"The Maternal Corpse!"
