Under Gedu's command, a carrion demon lunged at Gu Panxi, spraying a stream of green acid at her mid-air.
But before the acid could touch Gu Panxi, it was repelled by a burst of white light. Gu Panxi then took a step forward, grabbed the carrion demon by the neck, and with a slight squeeze, its body began to crackle, white light emanating from the fissures.
When she let go, the carrion demon fell to the ground, shattering into a pile of debris. No blood flowed, as its blood had been desiccated by the white light.
Gedu's expression grew more solemn, its four crimson eyes fixed on Gu Panxi.
It understood that just as the human beside Gu Panxi was useless, the monsters it infected could at best play a supporting role in their battle, and would even struggle to buy it enough time to escape.
Therefore, it had to act itself.
The dense cluster of small tentacles behind Gedu rapidly thickened and lengthened, their tips sprouting sharp spikes. Contact with these spikes would inject the zombie virus into the body!
Upon seeing the numerous tentacles, Wen Wen instinctively recoiled further, wanting no part in the fight between these two. Being injected with another dose of the virus would be no laughing matter.
Facing the densely packed, needle-tipped tentacles, Gu Panxi showed no fear. With her free hand, she conjured a crystalline shield and charged at Gedu.
The two beings, so unlike humans, collided.
The carrion demons, the giant rats, and the amorphous mass of sewage all attacked Gu Panxi in their own ways.
Yet, even under the assault of so many monsters, Gu Panxi's body remained impregnable, like a true angel, violently crushing these creatures.
Wen Wen, hiding behind them, watched the acid-spitting carrion demons with a touch of covetousness.
"I need to find a way to get my hands on a carrion demon, or this trip will yield absolutely nothing."
He then began to scan the carrion demons for an easier target – a robust one on the periphery, relentlessly spewing acid at Gu Panxi.
Although the carrion demon's acid attack couldn't penetrate Gu Panxi's white light, it could still weaken it, thereby reducing Gedu's pressure.
As the carrion demon was vigorously spraying, a knife suddenly embedded itself in its shoulder.
It abruptly turned its head, its disgusting compound eyes focusing on Wen Wen's direction, but finding nothing, it turned back to resume its acid-spewing.
Then, another knife struck its body.
And another, and another...
Finally, after having six knives plunged into its body, the zombie mother controlling the carrion demon could bear it no longer. Just how many knives did that hidden bug possess?
It gave the carrion demon a signal, and the demon let out a roar and charged towards Wen Wen. With six knives sticking out of it, even an idiot would know where the attacks were coming from.
The carrion demon ran swiftly, took a turn, and plunged into the sewer where Wen Wen was, only to trip.
Yes, after deciding to throw itself out to attract the carrion demon, Wen Wen had deployed its black chains to create a simple tripwire.
In the environment of the sewer, the pitch-black chains were difficult to spot.
Striking while the iron was hot, Wen Wen pounced onto the carrion demon's back, using the black chains to constrict its neck and attempt to subdue it.
Wen Wen had observed that its acid could only be spat from its mouth, so as long as he stayed behind it, he was safe.
Normally, a fight would end with such a maneuver against an opponent, but while the carrion demon was as fragile as a rag doll in Gu Panxi's hands, Wen Wen found it surprisingly difficult to subdue.
Its strength far surpassed Wen Wen's, who possessed a vampire constitution. However, its speed was significantly inferior, and its body was slippery. Not only did it have an insect's head, but its body was also covered in insect-like armor.
Wen Wen could only hold tightly onto the black chains, and using the daggers lodged in its body for leverage, he managed to stay fixed behind it, as if taming a wild horse.
The carrion demon repeatedly slammed itself against walls and the ground violently, sending stars before Wen Wen's eyes.
"This guy has too much energy! Even with my constant regeneration, I can't take this!"
Wen Wen's objective wasn't to kill it; a few Demon-Slayer bullets to its skull would suffice for that. Wen Wen wanted to capture it alive.
Realizing this approach wouldn't work, Wen Wen gritted his teeth and snapped his fingers. A chill emanated from his hands, causing the carrion demon's body temperature to plummet.
"Since it looks like a bug, its habits should be similar, right!"
Except for a few insects, most would die instantly when exposed to extreme cold. Thus, Wen Wen gambled that this insect-like carrion demon's bodily functions would cease under extreme cold conditions.
After being frozen for a while, the carrion demon's movements grew increasingly sluggish until they stopped altogether, leaving only its antennae trembling slightly.
Wen Wen let out a sigh of relief. Black chains erupted forth, binding it and slowly dragging it into his glove.
Having dealt with the carrion demon, Wen Wen sat on the ground, panting for a few breaths. After slightly recovering his strength, he drew his pistol loaded with Demon-Slayer bullets and exited the sewer.
He wanted to scavenge for any remaining spoils. The other two monsters likely possessed equally valuable abilities, and opportunities like this, encountering multiple monsters with someone else drawing their fire, were rare.
However, upon seeing the battlefield, he realized there was nothing left for him to scavenge.
The giant rat demon had already been sliced in two, its tail and legs occasionally twitching. As for the mass of sewage... well, only a pile of filth remained on the ground, leaving nothing salvageable.
On the field, only the zombie mother, with many of its tentacles severed, remained, along with two carrion demons with missing limbs that Wen Wen wouldn't even bother capturing for the containment facility.
The zombie mother was in disarray, while Gu Panxi's armor remained completely spotless, though her white light had significantly diminished from its initial intensity.
Gedu's four eyes emitted a strange glow. It had been trying to use its controlled monsters to buy time for its escape, but Gu Panxi had never given it that chance.
The moment it foolishly turned its back to Gu Panxi, death awaited it!
Now that most of its subordinates were dead, it could no longer hide and expect to escape. Thus, a ruthless glint flashed in Gedu's eyes.
The remaining tentacles plunged into its own body, severing the caterpillar-like lower half of its body. Foul-smelling blood covered the ground.
"Is it going to self-mutilate?" Wen Wen, who was observing, was startled.
When the tentacles stopped, the zombie mother had been split in two, transforming into a four-limbed humanoid monster and a bizarre caterpillar with human-like legs!
