Chapter 125: Strange Incident

Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Strange Incident

Matthias was worried that his wife would get jealous again, looking at his current position as if being teased by Amber. He slowly backed away and took the bouquet of roses that Amber had painstakingly bought for him. Now he didn’t want to be shy with Amber. It was time for him to clarify their relationship, which had always been just friendship, nothing more. He had been fed up with facing the same situation for a long time. If Amber were the one who had harmed his wife, he would imprison her without hesitation.

"Amber, I think I forgot to tell you. Victoria hasn’t liked flowers recently. Her nose is very sensitive to floral scents."

"Then, this rose is for you. As a token of my concern for you."

"I don’t need your attention. We’re just friends, so why are you acting so over the top?"

"Matthias, you never refused my gifts before."

"Things are different now. I don’t know why, but I’ve been feeling increasingly uneasy lately. Whenever there’s a problem, you’re always there."

Amber clenched her fists tightly. She immediately snatched the rose from her friend’s grasp and then walked out of the executive suite.

Matthias turned to look at his wife, who still had a blank expression. He took the initiative to approach her and took a seat next to the bed, looking worried.

"Tory, sorry I kept you waiting so long."

Victoria shook her head slowly. "It’s okay. I’m just worried about your relationship with Amber."

"Why are you worried about our relationship?"

"Because if I look at it for a long time, you two are actually very compatible."

"Were you jealous earlier?"

"I’m not jealous. I’m just looking at myself. If you two are truly compatible—"

"Why are you talking nonsense?"

"What?"

"Even though she and I seem to get along, I don’t like her." Matthias folded his arms. "Did someone offend you?"

"No."

"Then, you should just focus on me. Don’t care about what everyone else says."

That was what Victoria truly wanted. If only she could ignore everyone’s words, she could live peacefully with her husband. But now that everyone was attacking her, how could she live peacefully? She suddenly encountered a disaster while she was being attacked by everyone.

Wait a minute! For some reason, she felt something was odd about what happened today. Why did the metal shelf suddenly fall on her while she was passing by? She had only accidentally nudged it when she was annoyed with her husband. It was completely unreasonable for a metal shelf that had been perfectly fine to fall on her at just the right moment. She could already guess who the culprit was, but she didn’t want to make accusations without any solid evidence.

"Matthias, actually today’s incident I feel there is something strange."

Matthias rested his chin on his hand and nodded. "I knew today’s incident wasn’t an ordinary one."

Victoria folded her arms. "But, why are you just keeping quiet?"

"Because I don’t want you to stress over this. If I don’t catch the culprit, you won’t be disappointed."

"I will do the same thing with you."

"But, when you entered that room earlier, did someone intentionally push the iron shelf?"

"No. When I entered the room, I accidentally bumped into a pillar, and the iron shelf fell on me."

Matthias ruffled his hair in annoyance. "It seems impossible that the construction workers did it. They’ve always seemed nice to you."

"Then, who did it? I have to catch him."

Matthias lifted his head to face his wife. "Why are you more curious about the culprit than I am? Why don’t you let your mind rest for a while?"

Finally, Victoria looked at her husband with intense eyes. "I was actually really scared today. If I were seriously injured, our baby wouldn’t survive either."

"Since the incident you experienced today, I won’t let you go out alone. I’ll recruit Jennifer as your personal bodyguard."

Victoria rolled her eyes. "Jennifer still has to work, too. Don’t you feel sorry for her?"

"The only female friend I can rely on is her."

"She’ll definitely complain when she hears you hired her as my personal bodyguard out of the blue."

"Aren’t you two best friends? Friends should help each other."

A few days later...

Since Jennifer confided in her best friend about her romantic problems, she’s felt a bit relieved, though reality still has to be faced. Tomorrow, she’s going on a blind date with another man. Jennifer is still anxious about letting Sawyer out of her life. They’ve been just friends, their relationship hasn’t progressed, and Sawyer has been silent. If she tells Sawyer, will he be angry?

Ever since her best friend had an accident at work, Jennifer hasn’t had an appetite. She can only order food online. Now, all she does is stare at her phone while lying on the couch.

However, upon hearing the sound of someone entering the access code to her residence, she immediately sat up straight. She was shocked to see her ex-fiancé approaching her carrying various paper bags filled with food.

"Sawyer, why did you come to me?"

Sawyer hugged his ex-fiancé tightly. "I missed you so much."

"You’re not usually like this." Jennifer patted her ex’s back rhythmically. "By the way, have you eaten?"

"No. I actually bought us food so I could eat with you." Sawyer held his ex-fiancé’s hand, walking toward the dining room with a paper bag in hand. "I bought all your favorite foods."

Staring at her best friend and ex-fiancé, who cared so much for her, made her eyes well up with tears. She couldn’t bear to hide the problems she would face tomorrow. If Sawyer still had feelings for her, he would stop her tomorrow.

"Sawyer, there’s actually something I wanted to tell you. It just so happens you’re visiting me now."

"What do you want to tell me?"

Jennifer sighed. "Tomorrow I’m going on a blind date with another man. Is that okay with you?"
