Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Suspicious Stepsister
Ultimately, Victoria was forced to confess her condition to Fransisca. After all, her stepsister shouldn’t have had any ulterior motives for harming her. It was possible that the accident yesterday was simply a coincidence. Could Fransisca really be trusted? She only hoped her stepmother’s vicious behavior wouldn’t be passed on to her stepsister. Even though Fransisca still seemed more selfish than her, she was still a bit more self-centered.
"Yes, I am pregnant," Victoria answered casually.
"So, what about your baby? Is your baby safe?"
Victoria shook her head weakly, clutching the blanket tightly. "I lost it."
"I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked this." Even though in her heart she was happy to hear this good news.
"Thank you for visiting me. Aren’t you busy starting today?"
"I may seem busy, but I still have to make time to check on you. I’m still confused about how you tripped when we were just walking together without rushing."
"I don’t know, maybe I was just unlucky that time." Victoria raised her right eyebrow. "But why didn’t you want to hold me back then?"
"Because I didn’t have time to hold you. By the time I reached you, you were already rolling over and over."
"Okay, thank you for being honest with me." Actually, hearing Fransisca’s answer was too simple, making her start to get suspicious.
Now it was Fransisca’s turn to glare at her sister. "Don’t tell me you suspect me."
"No. Why would I suspect you? It’s been proven that you had no intention of harming me."
"So, previously you had suspicions that the accident you experienced was not an ordinary accident."
"Because I still felt something was off, I suddenly became careless." Victoria looked at her stepsister with pity. "I knew you couldn’t be like your mother."
"Is it because I said I wanted to give you half of my father’s fortune?"
"I know you have a conscience. That’s why I can’t hate you completely." For a moment, Victoria’s gaze fell on the bouquet of roses her stepsister had brought. "By the way, I forgot to tell you one thing. My nose has been very sensitive to flowers lately."
"Oh, I’m sorry." Fransisca quickly moved the rose away from her sister. "I think I’ll have to get rid of it."
"I don’t know why I really hate flowers lately. So, if you give me another one, I won’t accept it. I’m just warning you."
"Okay, I won’t do it again. I’m sorry, Victoria."
"It’s okay. Now I just want to be alone in my room. I’m so tired."
After visiting her sister, Fransisca exited the executive suite with a furious expression. She clutched the bouquet of roses she had bought until it shattered and she threw it in the trash.
"Victoria, she’s even more of a hypocrite than I thought! How dare she refuse my gift! We’ll see if she’ll stick with Matthias or not!"

A few hours later, it was Jennifer’s turn to visit her friend, who was being treated in the hospital. To this day, she was still deeply shocked by this bizarre incident. Even as she stared at her friend lying in the hospital bed, she felt like she wanted to let out a cry, unable to bear the loss of her innocent child.
"Jennifer, you don’t need to cry anymore."
"Actually, I’m still in shock after hearing this sad news. I was ready to be a good babysitter and aunt." For a moment, her eyes fell on the rather noticeable dark circles under her best friend’s eyes. "By the way, did you really not sleep because of yesterday’s incident?"
Victoria took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. "I’m more likely to be very anxious right now because I feel unworthy of being Matthias’s wife."
Jennifer widened her eyes. "What? Did Matthias scold you for this incident?"
"He didn’t scold me. But I felt so guilty because I failed to be a good mother."
"Victoria, I think I really need to give you a lecture so you don’t feel as hopeless as you are now." Jennifer touched her friend’s shoulders with both hands. "If Matthias didn’t scold you, why are you worrying about this?"
In the end, Victoria couldn’t hold back the tears that continued to flow freely down her cheeks. "Matthias didn’t mind me. But, I really wanted my baby. I’ve cared for it with love and I really wanted to see it born into this world. Matthias was also very excited about our baby. But now, I’ve failed to protect his most precious treasure."
Jennifer immediately hugged her best friend tightly. "You haven’t failed, Victoria. In fact, you’re a good mother in Matthias’s eyes. Don’t let this make you want to break up with him! Don’t you think Matthias will feel depressed?"
"But what if I make things worse? I’m actually so sick of living like this!"
"Should I call Matthias to talk to you?" Jennifer rolled her eyes. "I’m very familiar with your equally stubborn personalities. Don’t worry, Matthias will be furious if he hears you want to break up with him."
"Should I just apologize to him that I was wrong for saying I wanted to break up with him?"
"I suggest you apologize to her before she gets even sadder."

Before she knew it, it was already nighttime. Seeing her husband enter the room with a gloomy expression made her feel even more guilty. Victoria took the initiative to move her body to let her husband sit beside her.
"Matthias, I want you to just sit here."
Matthias smiled brightly and enthusiastically embraced his wife. "Finally, you don’t treat me like a stranger."
Victoria looked away nervously. "I never thought of you as a stranger. It’s just that I’ve had enough of contemplating for a while."
"So, now you want to be pampered by me again?"
She nodded his head. "I’ve actually missed you all day. I don’t like seeing us act cold to each other just because I’m selfish."
"Then, you have to promise me you won’t kick me out again."
