Chapter 178: Chapter 178: Emergency Meeting Part II
Once again, the issue of the pregnancy out of wedlock was brought up during the emergency meeting. Now, Victoria couldn’t prove she’d been married to Matthias for a long time. She’d already signed the divorce papers; she was no longer his wife. Would she still be defeated in this battle? She fought back tears to avoid appearing weak. After all, she’d suffered a miscarriage due to the intense stress at the time. She’d undoubtedly always considered Gianna a murderer.
Suddenly someone barged into the meeting room, surprising everyone, including Victoria, who was stunned to see Matthias present in the middle of the meeting even though he previously didn’t want to get involved in this matter.
"Did I come at the right time?" Matthias asked, looking at his wife.
"What are you doing, Mr. Matthias?!" shouted one of the council members.
"You can only mess us all up!"
Matthias smiled confidently and put his arm around his wife’s shoulder, surprising all the board members. "I have the right to attend the meeting because I’m also a major investor in the D&C Group. Besides, there’s one important thing I want to tell you."
"What is the important thing?"
"I gave forty percent of my shares to Victoria."
Victoria’s eyes widened. "What? Why didn’t you discuss this with me?"
"This way, it has been proven that Victoria is worthy of the position of leader of D&C Group."
"Then, you have to answer our question first! Is it true that Victoria got pregnant out of wedlock because of you?"
Matthias lifted the corner of his lips. "Who said Victoria got pregnant out of wedlock because of me?" His right hand slowly stroked his wife’s head. "We’ve been married for two years."
"What?! What nonsense is this!"
Matthias confidently showed everyone his marriage certificate. "If you look at the date on this certificate, it proves that Victoria and I are married. But we deliberately hid our marriage because so many bad things happened to us."
Victoria glared at her stepmother. "Gianna made a deal with Lucretia that Matthias and I wouldn’t get married. If we did, Gianna would only make things worse for Matthias’s family. Plus, Gianna would continue to torture me!"
Gianna slammed her fist on the table. "You crazy woman! Don’t trust that woman! Especially since her husband has been making things difficult for us!"
Victoria confidently took out the agreement document and showed it to everyone. "I also have proof in duplicate. You can read it, too, that Lucretia is the one who’s more likely to be disadvantaged!"
The council members whispered among themselves. Each of them now intended to remove Gianna from her position. Moreover, with Victoria presenting ample evidence of Gianna’s crimes, there was no need to doubt her.
Matthias folded his arms as he looked at each of the board members. "Actually, I was wrong, having caused D&C Group significant losses. That’s why I must now help Victoria recover this company as well."
"Can your wife do it all by herself? She has no experience whatsoever! She can only manage her tiny studio!" Gianna snapped again, her voice growing hoarse.
Suddenly, the police rushed into the room and surrounded Gianna. Matthias smiled sinisterly and confidently grasped his wife’s hand. Gianna had no right to resist them now that the police had officially issued an arrest warrant.
"You’d better reflect on all your evil deeds in prison! Especially since you’ve been hiding the accident I had two years ago!" Victoria snapped.
Now the entire council was slamming Gianna to the hilt. Victoria was gratified to see Gianna’s increasingly pale face, indicating that she was indeed the main perpetrator of the attempted murder.
Matthias tightened his grip on his wife’s hand. "Actually, we separated because Gianna tried to kill Victoria two years ago, disguising it as an accident. However, the accident was actually intentional, so she deliberately ordered Mr. Robert to erase all traces of it. Because Mr. Robert has many connections within the police force." A weary sigh escaped his lips. "I even thought Victoria had run away from me because our marriage had always been against her. Gianna has been deceiving us all this time!"
"Gianna is truly shameless! How dare she deceive us for years!"
"That’s right, she shouldn’t have been in charge of the D&C Group in the first place! What a snake woman!"
Gianna grew increasingly frustrated as she was attacked simultaneously by all the evidence Victoria and Matthias had obtained. She could only put on a pitiful face for her only daughter. The only person defending her now was her own daughter.
"Fransisca, do you trust them more than me?"
Fransisca lowered her head and looked away. "Why are you doing all this?"
Gianna widened her eyes. "What? Why aren’t you supporting me? Why are you believing all that stupid evidence?!"
"Even though I’m your daughter, I’m really disappointed in you this time. I hate having such a bad mother!"
"Fransisca, you are the only person I can rely on!"
"Mom! I’m actually so fed up with all this trouble!"
"Come to your senses, Fransisca! Who exactly did you get that position thanks to?"
"I don’t care what position I’m in now thanks to you. I just want you to reflect on all your mistakes in prison. Don’t appear before me again!"
Victoria couldn’t help but laugh sarcastically at the mother-daughter relationship being destroyed over such a small matter. She couldn’t believe Fransisca would betray her mother, even though their attitudes were so similar.
"You can hear it. Even your daughter has abandoned you now."
"Shut up, Victoria! I won’t forgive you for the rest of my life!"
"I didn’t forgive you either after you killed my father, and then you tried to kill me too. I guess you won’t be able to stay out of prison forever."
"Do you think the accident you had was caused by me?"
Victoria shoved her stepmother roughly on the shoulder. "Isn’t all the evidence clear? You actually ordered someone to hit my car? If it wasn’t you, why would you want to cover up the accident?"
