Chapter 15 Safe Travels

This was a no-brainer.

Xia Qingtian wasn't lacking for gifts worth thirty thousand yuan; she knew how useful adrenaline was, so she naturally chose option A.

At this moment, the police officer also looked at Xia Qingtian, seemingly lost in thought. Then, as if remembering something, he said, "Miss Xia? Is that you!"

The scene of the accident had been too dark, and in the suddenness of it all, he hadn't recognized her.

Hearing the officer speak, Su Wan was taken aback. Did he know Xia Qingtian? Was he going to disregard right and wrong?

Just as Su Wan was about to protest, she heard the officer approach Xia Qingtian and say, "We were just thinking of contacting you, we didn't expect you to be here already."

Xia Qingtian also recognized the officer looking at her. "We meet again, hello."

"Qingtian?" Xia's father looked at Xia Qingtian, his eyes filled with a hint of confusion.

"It's like this, Miss Xia was the one who called the emergency center from the scene of this accident. That's why the victim's life was saved in time. Otherwise, given the circumstances at the time, there was a high risk of severe bleeding or life-threatening hypothermia."

The officer's words cleared Xia Qingtian of all suspicion.

"I never expected my first morning exercise in eighteen years to involve something like this," Xia Qingtian said to her father with a wry smile. "It wasn't even dawn yet, and I didn't know who was hit. My mind went blank, and I just called the emergency center."

Xia's father was also shocked. He only knew that Xia Qingtian had slept all morning after her morning exercise, and he had even mocked his daughter for being too lazy, unaware that she had encountered such a situation during her exercise.

"But that doesn't prove you have nothing to do with this case!" Su Wan felt that this matter was inseparable from Xia Qingtian; she just had that feeling.

"There were other witnesses at the time who can vouch for Miss Xia," the officer interjected.

"Perhaps she bribed them, or prepared them beforehand, that's false testimony!" Su Wan blurted out without thinking.

The moment she said that, everyone's expression soured.

If Su Wan had said this earlier, they might have believed it was possible due to Xia Qingtian's wealth, arrogance, and malice.

But now that the police had investigated and vouched for Xia Qingtian, Su Wan's words were clearly just causing trouble.

"It's a loss to the national judicial institutions that Miss Su didn't major in law," Xia Qingtian said with a cold laugh. "To say such a thing, Director Su really knows how to raise a daughter."

Hearing Xia Qingtian's retort, Su Wan's face flushed red.

"How capable do I have to be to bribe Mr. Gu's people to give false testimony for me?" Xia Qingtian's voice was calm, but her words were like a nuclear bomb dropped onto a calm sea.

Many high-ranking officials were aware of Mr. Gu's subtle attitude at Xia Corporation. Combined with Xia Qingtian's words, the matter of this "morning exercise" became increasingly mysterious.

However, no one dared to press for details in front of Xia's father.

Even Su Wan wisely fell silent, though her eyes darted around, clearly contemplating something.

After the police inquired about Song Junhan's usual activities from the company staff, they left. The colleagues also departed one by one, and the number of people in the ward dwindled. The medical staff had also visited a couple of times.

When Xia's father was about to take Xia Qingtian away, Song Junhan's eyelids twitched. He stirred groggily and, upon opening his eyes, saw Xia Qingtian's face.

He froze, unsure if it was the anesthetic or fear that gripped him. He only stared with wide eyes, his lips trembling, and managed to stammer out two words: "It's you..."

"That's right," Xia Qingtian flashed a wide smile upon seeing Song Junhan awake. "I saved you."

"!" Song Junhan felt like cursing, but his body was utterly unresponsive, and his tongue was tied.

"Recover well," Xia Qingtian leaned down slightly, gazing into Song Junhan's eyes, her smile growing more enchanting and eerie. "There will be plenty of time later."

Straightening up, Xia Qingtian continued, "I know you want to thank me, but there's no need to rush. We'll have plenty of time in the future."

With a subtle smile, Xia Qingtian left the ward with Xia's father.

After Xia Qingtian left, Song Junhan convulsed a few times, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted once more.

In the car, as they neared the Xia residence, Xia's father finally asked Xia Qingtian, "Why didn't you mention the car accident this morning?"

"I was afraid of scaring you," Xia Qingtian said, lowering her head and fiddling with her phone while checking her system interface in her mind. She noticed a syringe of adrenaline had appeared in one of the slots.

Xia's father hesitated for a moment before reaching out and clumsily ruffling Xia Qingtian's hair. "It's okay, it's all in the past."

Xia Qingtian stiffened for a moment, then looked up at her father, meeting his concerned gaze. For some reason, her nose felt a little sore.

In her past life, she had argued with her father for a lifetime. By the time he died, they still hadn't reconciled.

She had missed so much.

Leaning into her father's embrace, Xia Qingtian felt him stiffen, as if unaccustomed to his daughter's sudden affection after so many years.

But he quickly recovered, gently placing an arm around Xia Qingtian's shoulders, a smile gracing his lips.

"Dad," Xia Qingtian called out softly.

"Hmm?" Xia's father responded.

"I want to buy a bag."

"..."

Fine, he knew it!

However, considering the shock Xia Qingtian had experienced, the bag had to be bought. Xia's father was already adept at transferring money.

Not long after the father and daughter returned home, Aunt Liu and Xia Qingyu also learned that Xia Qingtian had witnessed the car accident during her morning exercise.

Aunt Liu prepared a feast of delicious food to help Xia Qingtian calm her nerves.

Although Xia Qingyu didn't show much outward reaction, she gave Xia Qingtian a protective amulet on Sunday afternoon.

"I... I got this for you when I went to pray for smooth sailing at Qifu High School... No, not 'got,' it's a... it's a complimentary gift," Xia Qingyu's tone remained haughty, her hands behind her back, her cheeks flushed adorably.

"Safe Travels."

Xia Qingtian flipped over the red amulet with gold embroidery, revealing "Ward off Evil and Suppress Harm" embroidered on the other side.

"Quite superstitious for someone so young," Xia Qingtian chuckled.

"Take it or leave it! If you don't want it, give it back!" Xia Qingyu's blush instantly spread to the tips of her ears, and she reached out to snatch it back.

"Want it! Why wouldn't I want it!" Xia Qingtian immediately hid the amulet behind her back. "Wait for me."

Closing the door, Xia Qingtian returned to her room. When she opened it again, she handed several notebooks to Xia Qingyu. "These are my high school notes. They'll be much more useful for your studies at Qifu High School than anything else. Here."

With a stack of notebooks in her hand, Xia Qingyu blinked in surprise. Before she could react, she saw Xia Qingtian's door close again.

Xia Qingyu pursed her lips, took the notebooks, and headed straight for her bedroom. She casually flipped through one, noticing some pages with crudely drawn cartoon heads on the corners, and muttered, "Her drawings are so ugly."

The smile in her eyes, however, was undeniable.
