Vol. 1 - Chapter 402 - I Won’t Let You Die Here

Facing HuMin standing before him, HuMing calmly looked toward the window—toward Francis on the other side.

The man wore a mocking smile, as if waiting for HuMing to make his choice.

“HuMing, look at who she is. You know better than anyone what she means. Even if she’s taken on a new identity… she’s still your teacher.”

Francis, of course, knew who HuMin was. What he hadn’t expected was just how close she’d always been.

If she hadn’t repeatedly interfered with his plans, he might never have discovered HuMin's existence—or HuMing’s.

Those two names had carried tremendous weight in his previous life.

He’d dreamt of making both of them into his test subjects.

Now, with one wish already fulfilled, he wanted to see just how far HuMin could go!

Without the slightest hesitation, HuMin pushed off the ground like a cannonball, launching herself at HuMing!

But HuMing took a deep breath and caught her fist with a solid palm!

The impact sent his body reeling with the momentum—enough to throw HuMin aside. But instead, HuMing twisted his body midair, and HuMin’s long legs clamped tightly around his neck!

“The hell? A scissor choke? HuMin, you’re really going for the kill?!”

HuMing couldn’t help but complain. It was completely inappropriate timing, but his quip made HuMin freeze for just a split second!

And in that split second, HuMing forcefully pried himself free from those killer thighs.

As thrilling as it might be to be caught between such beautiful legs, it wouldn’t be so funny if he suffocated to death.

HuMin’s expression didn’t change. In that moment, she resembled one of the test subjects in Francis’s lab—attacking without thought or hesitation.

HuMing raised his arms to block. HuMin’s left hand suddenly locked onto his wrist, and with a sharp twist of her body—

From his field of vision, HuMing watched her spin a full 360 degrees and whip her right arm around like a long lash from the opposite side!

HuMing narrowed his eyes and raised his leg to kick at her knee, but the moment his foot connected, he was stunned.

It was as if her joints didn’t even exist—her thigh and calf bent into a near-impossible arc that should’ve snapped bone.

Yet HuMin stood as solid as ever, her balance unshaken, her whip-like arm still slashing toward his face.

Forced back several steps, HuMing couldn’t dodge completely. His cheek flared with pain—

Blood trickled down his face.

Even when he’d gone toe-to-toe with elite mercenaries, he hadn’t taken a single serious hit.

But HuMin… every move was a killing blow. A single misstep and he’d be done for.

“It’s been a long time since we sparred like this. I suddenly remembered the time you beat me so bad I couldn’t even walk straight.”

On the other side, HuMin’s eyelid twitched ever so slightly at HuMing’s words.

But her fist only tightened, and she charged at him again.

In the window above, Francis also heard HuMing’s voice.

“HuMing, don’t tell me you’re trying to bring her back with memories? The person in front of you is nothing like before. HuMin’s willpower was already terrifying—and now I’ve improved the formula. She’s completely mine now. My tool.”

Francis wasn’t new to developing control serums.

But each one came with a massive cost. Every experiment was a loss in both time and resources.

After the data from Zero’s feedback, and what he extracted from Shi Ren, he finally completed the formula.

HuMin was now a perfect puppet.

He wanted to see HuMing fail with his own eyes. He’d gambled all his achievements for this moment.

BOOM!

A thunderous crash yanked Francis from his delusions.

When he looked over, he saw HuMin’s body smashed against a shipping container before falling to the ground—his eyes widened in disbelief.

HuMing calmly shook out his hand and turned to look at Francis.

“No one ever told you? Fighting HuMin is like disciplining a kid.”

There was layered meaning in those words—after all, HuMin had once said the exact same thing when she used to beat up HuMing.

HuMin struggled to push herself up, but HuMing landed a precise knife-hand strike and knocked her out cold.

Francis’s face changed instantly.

He hadn’t expected HuMin to lose in just a few rounds.

This wasn’t the grand showdown he’d imagined at all!

In a panic, he slammed his hand down on a red button beside him.

Instantly, red lights flashed throughout the facility as sirens blared.

Facing the floodwaters, HuMing felt an uncommon sense of helplessness.

He didn’t have any tools with him that could break through the underground levels.

His phone still had signal to the surface network, but the two systems weren’t connected.

[If Zero were here, I’d still have a shot…]

For the first time, hesitation and uncertainty crossed HuMing’s face.

“Hello? HuMing? Are you down there?”

A familiar female voice suddenly crackled through his phone.

HuMing froze, then quickly lifted his phone to check the signal.

It was a transmission from the upper facility’s comms network—someone was calling his name!

“You’re… Bai XingQi?!”

The name shot into his mind like a lightning bolt.

HuMing finally remembered who the voice belonged to—but what was she doing here?

“Yes, I saw them looking for you and found a chance to sneak in. What’s your situation down there?”

“Not great. Shi Zhong activated the wipeout system. HuMin and I are trapped underground, and water’s flooding in!”

HuMing’s words made Bai XingQi’s voice sharpen with emotion.

“HuMin is with you?!”

“Yeah.”

“Most of the facility’s machines are fried—I’m coming down right now. Hold on!”

With that, the call cut off.

HuMing lowered his phone and looked down at the unconscious HuMin in his arms.

He gave a helpless smile, then whispered—

“HuMin… Last time, you died in my arms just like this.

But this time, we still have a chance. I won’t let you die here.”

Determination blazed in HuMing’s eyes.
