Chapter 418 The Flames of Jealousy

Shen Su was in medical investment, and this hospital happened to be one he had invested in. Therefore, he quickly found out Feng Feng's reason for coming tonight: Wen Zhouyuan had a fever and chills and was being observed in the hospital. Shen Su was already extremely familiar with the name Wen Zhouyuan. Upon seeing the case information, he immediately understood Feng Feng's urgency. He suddenly let out a self-mocking laugh, and his assistant, who had accompanied him on business, was so startled he dared not breathe.

Some people's smiles are more terrifying than their anger! Feng Feng was unaware that Shen Su had investigated her. She merely considered their earlier encounter a coincidence. By the time she returned with food, Shen Su was gone.

Feng Feng helped Wen Zhouyuan sit up. "Let's eat something first."

Wen Zhouyuan was on an IV drip, which occupied his right hand. Feng Feng saw him pick up the spoon with his left hand, struggling and finding it very inconvenient. She took the spoon from him. "Let me feed you."

Wen Zhouyuan seemed surprised by her action. A hint of pleasant surprise appeared on his tired and weak face. Feng Feng pretended not to notice and focused on feeding him the porridge. Although Wen Zhouyuan didn't have much appetite, he was exceptionally cooperative because Feng Feng was feeding him. Neither of them spoke, and the ward was quiet.

Shen Su finished processing his work and returned to Wen Zhouyuan's ward. The ward door was slightly ajar, and through the gap, he saw Feng Feng feeding Wen Zhouyuan. His expression grew even colder.

In the years he had known Feng Feng, he had never seen her care for anyone with such patience. She truly was his white moonlight. Wen Zhouyuan was an irreplaceable existence in her heart. Even though he had rejected her and was already married, she still cherished him as a treasure. As soon as Wen Zhouyuan returned, she had eagerly ended their relationship and turned to embrace him.

Wen Zhouyuan already had a child; was she going to become his child's stepmother?

Shen Su put his hands in his pockets and watched as Feng Feng meticulously finished feeding Wen Zhouyuan dinner and then placed a pillow behind him. Even without Wen Zhouyuan asking, she could think of various ways to care for him.

After adjusting the pillow, Feng Feng had not yet withdrawn her hand when Wen Zhouyuan grasped it. His palm was hot, but Feng Feng did not pull away. Wen Zhouyuan seemed encouraged. "I'm very happy that you're still willing to take care of me, Fengfeng."

He called her "Fengfeng," a unique pet name only he used. Her two-character name was even called by her parents with her surname. Only he would affectionately use a reduplicated form.

"Fengfeng, be my girlfriend," Wen Zhouyuan said. "I don't want to miss you again."

Outside the door, Shen Su turned and left after hearing this. He already knew what Feng Feng's answer would be.

"You have a fever right now," Feng Feng did not answer directly. "You should rest first."

"Even though I have a fever, my mind is clearer than ever," Wen Zhouyuan said. "I can give you time to consider; you don't have to give me an answer now."

Feng Feng indeed could not give him an answer right then, so she fell silent again. With no one to care for Wen Zhouyuan, Feng Feng stayed overnight to accompany him. The next morning, she went with Wen Zhouyuan for his check-ups.

When the examination results came out, Wen Zhouyuan's condition was not optimistic. He had a persistent high fever and chills. The doctor's expression was serious as he told them, "Based on the clinical presentation and examination results, it is sepsis."

Feng Feng's breath hitched, but Wen Zhouyuan was much calmer than her. He even held her hand and comforted her.

Although Feng Feng was surprised, she did not lose her composure in front of the doctor. She asked, "When will the treatment plan be ready?"

The doctor said, "First, take antibiotics. Tomorrow, we'll do a few more tests to check the condition of the lesion and decide whether surgery is needed."

The doctor said many things, and Feng Feng listened intently. After returning to the ward, she remained in a state of high mental tension. Instead, it was Wen Zhouyuan, the patient, who came to comfort her. "It's okay, trust the doctor."

Wen Zhouyuan seemed unsurprised by his own condition. Feng Feng stared at him and questioned, "Did you know this all along?"

Wen Zhouyuan first nodded, then shook his head. "I just often had fevers and knew my body wasn't good."

"Then why didn't you get checked earlier!" Feng Feng couldn't help but blame him, her tone laced with strong displeasure.

Wen Zhouyuan did not get angry because of this; instead, he smiled. "Seeing you care about me like this seems worth it."

"This doesn't sound like you," Feng Feng remarked. Her composure, self-control, and rationality were all learned from Wen Zhouyuan.

He had once told her that successful people in their careers are never ruled by emotions. This statement had a profound impact on her. In her world, Wen Zhouyuan had always been synonymous with rationality. Who would have thought that in her lifetime, she would hear such words from him?

"Doesn't it?" Wen Zhouyuan said with a smile. "My biggest regret is the baseless rationality of those years. If I had been more impulsive, I wouldn't have missed so many years with you."

Wen Zhouyuan's emotional expressions were direct and frequent this time upon his return to the country, more so than Feng Feng had heard in the preceding years. Although she wasn't overwhelmed, her heart couldn't possibly be unmoved.

That was Wen Zhouyuan, her white moonlight. After much deliberation, Feng Feng told him, "You should focus on treatment now. I'll stay with you."

Wen Zhouyuan pulled her into a hug. "Thank you, Fengfeng, I'm truly very happy."

Unknowingly, summer arrived, and Jingchu was already over eight months old.

From initially lifting his head and rolling over, he could now walk while holding onto the edge of the sofa. He had also grown taller. After Jingchu's birth, Xing Zheng delegated much of his work to his subordinates. Except for occasions that absolutely required his personal presence, others attended on his behalf. During his off-hours, he spent almost all his time with Jingchu, and so did Lin Mei.

Watching the child grow day by day, they both felt the magic of life. Aunt Wen often came over. One day, she brought homemade dishes to Zhuhua Villa.

It had been more than half a month since her last visit, but Jingchu remembered her. Upon seeing her, he began to babble and giggle, his eyes crinkling into smiles. Aunt Wen was overjoyed. She immediately picked up Jingchu. "This child is getting more and more adorable, just like Zheng when he was little."

Xing Zheng had been raised by Aunt Wen, and no one knew what he looked like as a child better than she did. Jingchu resembled Xing Zheng from birth, and as he grew, the father and son looked more and more alike. Aunt Wen brought out Xing Zheng's childhood photo album, and as Lin Mei flipped through it, she saw that it was indeed Jingchu.

Because she had taken medication during pregnancy and experienced various upheavals, Lin Mei and Xing Zheng were extremely concerned about Jingchu's health. They took him for check-ups every so often to monitor his brain development. Fortunately, every result was reassuring.

After Aunt Wen arrived, she took charge of lunch. As the family ate lunch together, Aunt Wen suddenly asked Xing Zheng, "Have your parents visited recently?"

If anyone else had asked, Xing Zheng would likely have gotten angry, but he always had a good temper with Aunt Wen. "No."

"You should look more towards the future." Although Aunt Wen didn't say it directly, Xing Zheng understood her meaning. "Mm."
