Li Yue knew he couldn't argue with the security guard, so he took out his phone and dialed 120. He squatted down and looked at Zhang Shuang's leg. "Can't move at all?"
Zhang Shuang was still in shock, looking at him with disbelief, and nodded blankly.
Li Yue: "The ambulance should be here soon."
After saying this to Zhang Shuang, Li Yue turned to the perpetrator. "There's surveillance here, and I've already called the police. The police will investigate the details, and whoever is responsible will be held accountable."
The perpetrator was a middle-aged man who seemed unreasonable, clearly bullying Zhang Shuang for being young.
After Li Yue said this, the other party became angry. "I was driving, and she suddenly walked out. Wasn't she asking for death!"
As the other party spoke, Li Yue smelled a strong scent of alcohol. He reminded him, "Drunk driving violates traffic laws. You should tell that to the police."
At this point, the ambulance and traffic police arrived simultaneously. Zhang Shuang had no family members, so Li Yue drove her to the hospital.
Zhang Shuang's leg was shattered. She was cast at the hospital, and this took over two hours. Seeing it through, Li Yue also handled all the hospitalization procedures for Zhang Shuang and paid all the bills.
After finishing, Li Yue went to the ward to visit Zhang Shuang.
Zhang Shuang was in a shared ward with men and women, which was inconvenient.
When Li Yue entered, he saw her sitting on the bed, looking constrained, her expression tense.
Seeing Li Yue, she came back to her senses. "Thank you for what happened just now."
Li Yue: "It was just a small effort. Your injury is quite serious; you should inform your family."
Li Yue knew she wasn't from Nanjiang and likely had no relatives there. She was also in her internship period, and encountering something like this was indeed troublesome.
With her legs incapacitated, she would definitely need someone to take care of her.
"Let's not talk about it for now." Zhang Shuang lowered her head, her voice somewhat muffled. "My parents haven't been well for the past two years, and I don't want them to worry. I'll be fine on my own."
Li Yue pondered for a moment. "Then let's find a caregiver first. You absolutely cannot manage alone like this."
With that, Li Yue was about to contact the hospital to find a caregiver for her.
"No need!" Zhang Shuang interrupted him, her face even paler than before.
Having dated for several years, Li Yue guessed the reason from Zhang Shuang's expression. He comforted her, "Don't worry about the money for now. You can pay me back slowly later."
Zhang Shuang: "..."
Li Yue eventually found a caregiver for Zhang Shuang, which delayed things by nearly an hour.
Around seven o'clock, Li Yue received a call from Feng Feng, at which point he was standing by Zhang Shuang's hospital bed.
Seeing Feng Feng's call, Li Yue suddenly remembered that he had already wasted a lot of time at the hospital.
He answered in front of Zhang Shuang.
Feng Feng asked, "You're not here yet?"
Li Yue: "Something came up and delayed me. I'm on my way now."
Feng Feng: "If something came up, handle it first. Don't rush."
Li Yue: "I'm done. Wait for me."
Zhang Shuang sat on the hospital bed, pursing her lips after hearing Li Yue's words.
In a flash, Li Yue hung up the phone. He looked at her and said, "My girlfriend is still waiting for me. I'm leaving now."
Zhang Shuang asked, "She won't mind you helping me like this, will she?"
Li Yue: "No, she's a very good person."
Zhang Shuang was about to say something more, but Li Yue interrupted her. He gave her a few instructions, handed her over to the caregiver, and then turned to leave.
Zhang Shuang watched Li Yue's figure leave the ward. She took out her phone from under a pillow and started editing a message.
On his way back from the hospital, Li Yue ran into rush hour. A half-hour drive turned into over an hour. By the time he arrived at the apartment, it was already half-past eight.
Li Yue entered with the fruit. Feng Feng had already showered.
"Sorry, I'm late." Li Yue apologized as soon as he entered, and then asked, "Have you eaten dinner?"
Feng Feng: "Yes, I ordered takeout. How about you?"
Li Yue: "I haven't eaten yet. I'll just find something to eat in the fridge."
Saying that, he had already changed his shoes. "I'll go wash the fruit."
Feng Feng didn't stop him. A few minutes later, Li Yue came out with washed strawberries and cherries. Feng Feng picked up a strawberry and put it in her mouth, casually asking him, "What were you busy with?"
Li Yue: "I ran into Zhang Shuang when I was leaving the supermarket."
Feng Feng found the name somewhat familiar but couldn't recall. "Who is that?"
Li Yue: "My ex-girlfriend, don't you remember?"
Feng Feng: "Your ex-girlfriend, why should I remember?"
Li Yue: "Ms. Feng, it won't hurt you to be a little jealous."
Feng Feng: "You met your ex-girlfriend, and then what? What were you doing behind my back?"
Feng Feng's question gave Li Yue a sense of accomplishment. He told Feng Feng about Zhang Shuang's fractured leg, "She has no family in Nanjiang. When this happened, I happened to be there, so I helped her out."
Feng Feng popped a strawberry into her mouth and said nothing.
Li Yue asked with a smile, "Are you really angry?"
Feng Feng: "If I'm really angry, how are you going to appease me?"
Li Yue's gaze fixed on her lips. His Adam's apple bobbed. He put his arms around her waist and whispered in her ear, his voice husky, "I'll appease you in bed, how about that?"
Feng Feng's hand grabbed his belt. "We'll see how you perform."
The atmosphere in the living room instantly heated up.
Just as they were about to embrace, Li Yue's phone suddenly rang, shattering the暧昧 atmosphere.
Li Yue casually picked up his phone. It was Zhang Shuang's name. As he was about to hang up, Feng Feng suddenly said, "Answer it."
Since the moment had already been interrupted, a few more minutes wouldn't matter.
Because of Feng Feng's words, Li Yue answered the call. He maintained his usual politeness and distance with Zhang Shuang. "Is there something you need?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to ask if you've gone back." Zhang Shuang's voice sounded cautious. "Thank you today. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have known what to do."
"You're welcome," Li Yue said. "Focus on recovering."
Zhang Shuang hummed and then asked him, "Is your girlfriend angry?"
The living room was very quiet, and with Feng Feng sitting next to Li Yue, she could hear every word Zhang Shuang said on the phone.
Feng Feng had seen many people over the years. Although she hadn't had many serious relationships herself, she wasn't oblivious to others' subtle intentions.
The few words Zhang Shuang exchanged with Li Yue were quite telling.
Even if she couldn't definitively say that Zhang Shuang wanted to get back together with Li Yue, she could vaguely sense that she definitely hadn't let go of Li Yue.
A woman's intuition, especially in matters of the heart, was always so sharp.
She could accurately guess without even meeting or speaking to the other person.
Li Yue looked at Feng Feng. Feng Feng showed no reaction, impassively adjusting her collar.
Li Yue replied to Zhang Shuang, "I have something else to do, so I'll have to go."
The question Zhang Shuang asked was difficult to answer. Answering yes or no might displease Feng Feng, so Li Yue wisely chose to evade it.
