Chapter 305.Mayhem

Chapter 305: Chapter 305.Mayhem

Kailen activated the concealment rune the moment he was appearing at the other end of the teleportation gate.

When he stepped through the teleportation gate, to his surprise, there was no one guarding the teleportation gate. Instead he felt like he had stepped on something. He looked down, only to see his leg was on a dead body. Several dwarves lay in a pool of their own blood, having been murdered.

That was when a wind blade flashed past him, narrowly missing him by the ear. His gaze snapped to his environs. What he saw was complete mayhem. Dwarves could be seen engaged in different kinds of battles with various machinery lifeforms and other inhabitants of the city who belonged to other races.

"That concealment is not gonna work on anyone here. There’s no use hiding. It’s either you fight or you die!" a feminine voice, cold, resounded in his ear.

Kailen didn’t bother looking to see who the voice belonged to. Any mistake and he’d die a miserable death. Also the concealing effect of the rune had just worn off. He couldn’t hide anymore. Things were now more dangerous. He could only activate the protective rune after thirty minutes when he recovered his spiritual power.

He looked above, only to see various streaks of light clashing with each other; each clash was so much so that the heavens and the earth seemed like they’d fall apart.

’So the big shots are duking it out in the air and the weaklings are fighting down here huh,’ Kailen mused. ’I just needed to survive. What happens here is none of my business.’

Before he had the chance to move, a fist slammed into his temple, sending him crashing into a nearby rock.

’Damnit.’ He cursed, attempting to stand up, but his body refused to listen to him. The footsteps were approaching, the enemy was closing in.

"You are the one on the bounty, right? I’ve really hit the jackpot today."

The fellow, letting his guard down, squatted, staring down at the battered opponent. This had been way too easy for him. He didn’t even use his affinity. Was the guy that had killed the child of the commander this weak?

Kailen ignored his bleeding face, destroyed teeth, and stinging cheek wound, muttering to himself as he lay on the ground. ’Thanks for drawing closer, bastard.’

Several vines suddenly sprouted from the ground, heading directly towards the eyes of his enemy. Because the fellow had let his guard down—thought Kailen wouldn’t be able to strike back—and also was closer to the ground, the vines with strikingly pointed edges pierced through his eyes without him being able to react in time, causing blood to spurt out of them.

The moment several metallic scales appeared on his skin and eyes, his eyes had already been destroyed. The dwarf screamed in extreme pain.

Kailen quickly rolled on the ground to a different direction, narrowly evading an attack—a punch from the now vision-compromised dwarf aimed at Kailen. Kailen stared at the ground as he saw a gaping hole on the ground after the punch from the dwarf landed and gulped a mouthful of saliva.

’It was really good I used the situation to my advantage and managed to compromise his vision, else I would have been doomed.’

Kailen crawled, hiding behind a large rock a few walks away. The fellow kept punching here and there; however the enemy was now out of his reach. Some fireballs finally flew from a different direction towards his head. The flames started devouring him from head to toe, till nothing was left of him.

Whoever had shot the fireball was not in Kailen’s line of sight. Certainly they were in passing and saw the compromised state of the dwarf, then took advantage of the situation to get rid of him.

As for Kailen, he was panting for breath. Not only was he bleeding, he had crushed several of his bones after hitting the rock when he was attacked by the dwarf. It would take a while before he recovered. He only had a few reserves of universe energy left, and in his state, he needed it to recover and possibly heal the broken bones in his body and the additional wounds he had accrued from the just-ended skirmish.

He grimaced in pain, panting heavily, and mused, "I need a better hiding place to recover. If I stay in the open like this, I am doomed."

Kailen scanned the environs full of different affinities and battles flashing through his eyes. However he found no hiding place. The rock against which he was hiding was probably the most perfect place for him to hide.

’Great, just great.’ He sighed.

"Keep fighting. Stronger reinforcements will arrive very soon in about 24 hours. When the reinforcements arrive, we will definitely be able to leave the city and leave the rest to them."

A thought transmission from a regal male voice resounded in the minds of those fighting the dwarves where Kailen was. On hearing the voice, their morale surged . They started attacking the dwarves more ferociously as hope seemed to have glistened into their eyes. Kailen’s eyes even revealed a trace of hope.

He didn’t know who the voice belonged to, but it was probably one of the powerhouses of the city fighting in the skies. In his condition, he had to be honest, after what he had endured up to now in this hell, it was only a matter of time before he died. If not here, he would die somewhere else in the city. Against ultimate strength, his ploys would be meaningless.

Kailen therefore made a decision: "Survive for 24 hours, huh."

He had to bet it all on the words of the powerhouse. If he could survive for 24 hours in this hellhole then perhaps he’d be safely transported out of the city after the reinforcements arrive.

But there was one problem. What if the dwarves blew up the city before the reinforcements arrive?

And what were the chances of him surviving in this chaotic battlefield in a wounded and battered state till the 24 hours time period , even if the dwarves didn’t blow up the city by then?

"Damnation"
