Chapter 320: Chapter 320. Rascal
A/N – Chapter 316 slightly edited. Kindly go through it before you read this Chapter.
Having entered the room, Kailen was surprised to find a familiar figure seated in the room.
"To what do I owe this visit, sir?"
Rin was completely surprised at the sudden appearance of this big shot in his office.
He may be a rank 1 beginner stage galactic level lifeform and the man may be a rank 5 supreme stage ascendant level lifeform, technically weaker than him when cultivation rank was considered, but this man was the president of the Alchemy Association of the capital of the Astral Empire, and had made more contributions to the Secondary Carrier Alliance than Rin, a youth who was now climbing the ladder compared to the old man before him who had been part of the people to lay the groundworks for the Secondary Carrier Alliance in the Empire.
Rin therefore did not dare to be presumptuous before this man, but rather look at Old Ha in admiration.
Also, Rin was the secretary of the Runesmith Association of the capital, currently acting in the stead of the president and the vice president in their absence, whereas Old Ha was the president of the Alchemy Association of the Empire.
He was literally a junior to the man seated in his office, in the Secondary Carrier Alliance, even though they were in different professions of the Secondary Carrier Alliance.
Why would he come here?
Oblivious to Rin’s thoughts, Kailen however, smiled, then moved towards the old man, ignoring any manner of pleasantries.
The old man boisterously stood up and hugged Kailen shortly, after which he sized Kailen up and down with a wide grin on his face, then commented.
"You are really taller than me now, err. Also, your charm bar has really gone up. I bet half the academy girls have your name inscribed in their diaries, you little rascal!"
Kailen rolled his eyes at Old Ha’s words, then replied.
"Stop spouting bullshit, old man. My height has not increased since the last time you saw me. You are probably aging and getting a hunched back. Also, the ladies are actually afraid of me, some crap about being inconsiderate and even hitting ladies in the chest during battles and all that—not that I care though, after all I’m taken."
"I see you’ve got a feisty mouth now that you are famous across the whole empire, huh."
Kailen laughed at Old Ha’s eccentricities and asked seriously.
"But, old man, why are you here?"
Rin stood by the side, eager to know the answer to the question Kailen had asked.
"I was in the Alchemy Association building of the virtual universe, sorting out some business when I saw through a viral livestream of you that you were in the Runesmith Association. Since I haven’t seen you in a while, I took it upon myself to come see you," Old Ha replied.
"Which viral video?" Kailen asked, but quickly came to a realization.
He sighed. He really didn’t like hiding himself but it was sometimes annoying that people would take advantage of every small chance to milk the daily lives of popular people for their own benefits. Some fellows had taken videos of his encounter with Rin’s sister and posted it online.
Fame was really a hassle.
Kailen sighed.
"Right, I now remember. Kailen Darkhaven is the disciple of Jackson Bloodfallen, this old man’s disciple," Rin mused inwardly, realising why they were bantering so casually with one another.
Also, he now understood why the man would come to his office. It turned out he came looking for Kailen Darkhaven.
As for his sister’s demise on social media, though he was hurt that she’d become a public laughing stock, he had anticipated it the moment she offended the young man before him.
There was no way people would not take advantage of the opportunity to make some streaming money off an incident involving Kailen Darkhaven.
’It seems things will be a little difficult for Valeria from now on. However, it will serve as a lesson and an opportunity for her to change for the better. I blame myself partly for dotting on her too much, (sighs).’
Rin’s thoughts were interrupted suddenly by Old Ha.
"Sorry I had to barge into your office uninvited, young man."
Rin noticed Old Ha sending a polite smile his way, and replied almost reverentially.
"It’s no issue, sir."
Old Ha nodded, pleased with the young man’s polite and professional attitude, then added.
"Shall we get down to business?"
Kailen and Rin looked at one another in confusion, clearly not understanding the old man’s words.
As if he had read their thoughts by just looking at the expressions on their faces, he sighed and added.
"I’m really trying to not act shocked by the mind-boggling things this kid keeps pulling off, so I’m just gonna act like I’m not surprised he’s also a runesmith now, with such insane rune skill proficiency."
He yawned casually, ignoring the shameless grin on Kailen’s face, turned to look at Rin and added.
"Can you hand the kid’s runesmith badge to him so that we can go ahead and try to butter up to him to get him to join the conference as one of the contestants of both the Runesmith and Alchemy Society of the Empire?"
"Yes sir." Rin quickly handed over Kailen’s runesmith badge to him, explaining several additional benefits he’d receive for being a member of the Runesmith Association with terrifying potential.
Kailen nodded his head in understanding.
As a student of the academy, these benefits such as high amounts of universe coins sent to him every month and discounts for purchasing certain rune inscribed products and what not were not important to him as everything in the academy relied on student credits.
However, he could use those benefits to his advantage by getting his loved ones on Earth better training resources and rune inscribed artifacts that could offer them high levels of protection.
Kailen quickly brushed the thoughts aside for now.
It was time to talk about this inter-empire Secondary Carrier Conference.
