Chapter 309: Chapter 309 . A race against time 2

He wondered: what kind of rune could Kailen use in this situation?

A concealment rune may conceal him for just ten seconds before it gives him away. However ten seconds may not be enough for him to have gotten on the spaceship by then.

If he uses an illusion rune, or paralytic rune, the same thing would apply here. It would probably wear off before he even gets near to one of the floating spaceships and he’d be discovered and probably killed.

As for the idea of using an illusion, or paralytic rune on the machinary lifeforms, which would help him find a window of opportunity and kill them with his vines, it was out of the picture. He was too weak to do that.

They were strong.

Also, if he could have done that, he wouldn’t. He was working against time. Each second spent here could be his last, drowning him in flames of a city which could be set on fire any minute from now.

So why would he waste it fighting someone instead of escaping this hell?

His mind spanned through the knowledge he’d absorbed from the rune books.

That’s it.

He found it.

Though it would last for just ten seconds, he could do a lot with it.

A teleportation rune.

It could save him time, and teleport him about four times several few kilometers away from the edge of the spaceship and his vines would have to do the rest of the work to get him into the spaceship faster, as compared to his normal speed.

As for whether or not someone was guarding the spaceship, he didn’t have the time to think of a solution for that.

The plan was to, first of all, enter into a spaceship. He’d think of how to deal with other issues that came after next.

Kailen quickly floated above the ground in a moment.

Quickly he drew a rank 0 teleportation rune on the air. The runes converged around his figure like a cloak as he directed his gaze towards one of the spaceships.

His figure flickered before he disappeared, reappearing somewhere in the air.

A human female, snoring on one of the spaceships, suddenly woke up. It was as if she felt something, as if noticing a slight fluctuation in the environs.

However she didn’t even bother looking towards it and fell asleep.

"Perfect. She’s asleep. I can kill her silently. Thank goodness I don’t have to worry about how to handle the one guarding the spaceship anymore. Let’s make this fast."

From a distance after teleporting once, in a split moment, Kailen noticed the human lady in the ship, then teleported three more times before he stood some kilometers away from the edge of the spaceship.

Quickly, his teleportation rune finally wore off and his spiritual power was exhausted. He’d need thirty minutes before he could use another rune again.

Kailen quickly activated his vine affinity then.

The vines shot towards the spaceship and twirled around one of the rooted constructs in the spaceship. Kailen swung back and forth, then propelled himself upwards towards the spaceship with the elasticity and force of his vines.

Finally, undisturbed in his movements, he landed in the interior of the spaceship.

However the sound that was made shook the female human seated in the spaceship awake.

She quickly turned to look at Kailen, staring back at her.

"Damn it, damn it, damn it. She’s a rank 3 beginner stage Ascendant level life form? I can’t deal with her. Talk about things never going according to plan!" Kailen mused inwardly, on high alert, staring at the feminine human who stared back at him.

"Who are you?" the female human asked, staring at the sickly-looking fellow standing before her.

"If you try to kill me, I’m gonna self detonate myself. We are all gonna die here!" Initially she wanted to think the bastard was joking on hearing his words; however the resolute expression on his face made it clear to her that this guy was not joking.

She may be able to kill the bastard, but if she took a single step, who knew what the bastard would resort to? This guy looked too desperate to be kidding.

"Drive us the hell out of this city if you want to live! This city is gonna blow up!" Kailen added with seriousness, albeit nervous that he’d be killed by the lady before him and at the same time nervous that the city would blow up any time soon and he’d die.

He added, "And before you think about whether or not—"

Boooooom.

A sudden explosion rang in one direction of the city and started spreading throughout the city.

Skyscrapers which previously stood like towering sentinels despite the catastrophe which had already ensued staggered and assumed a descending posture. They fell like defeated giants.

"What the hell is happening?!" the female human bellowed, her gaze darting through the windows of the spaceship towards the city.

Kailen was really angry, looking in the windows alongside her for a split second, observing the city come up in flames. He had been right. Thank God he trusted his instincts.

However fire was approaching and soon it would reach them.

This silly woman was gonna get them killed, watching the catastrophe ensue with a confused expression on her face.

He would have killed her if he had the strength to do so, taking over the spaceship and piloting it himself. After all, Nyk had a flamboyant background. Something like driving a spaceship was naturally taught to him.

However Kailen was only alive right now because he had threatened to kill himself alongside the woman. But thinking he could kill her was some fairytale.

He bellowed without any reservations. "You stupid woman! Just fucking drive the spaceship! I told you this city is gonna blow up, do you want us to fucking die with everyone?!"

Snapping back to her senses, she ignored Kailen’s rudeness as his words hit her like a sledgehammer. She didn’t want to die, just like any sane person would feel. He was right!

So she took the steer of the spaceship, and started the engine.

Just then, a large laser light whizzed across the expanse, cutting through several spaceships like butter, leaving several few spaceships and the one they were in remaining. It seemed an enemy was destroying the spaceships. They wanted to bury everyone here.

But Kailen knew he had to survive. He couldn’t die here.

He had to return.

There was a special someone he had to protect and start a family with. Silly friends whose dramatic antics reminded him time and time again of what he was paying every price for power for.

He needed to return. His eyes blazed with fanatic determination and will to live.

Kailen screamed, "What are you looking at, drive!" Whatever happened, he wouldn’t be drowned in this city.

He didn’t know how. But he would survive.
