The system's voice grew increasingly devious.
"Big brother, take a good look at the order, okay? The order has been overdue for over half an hour. Do you want to get burned down there?"
Ren Yuanhao suddenly clutched his lower half, shaking his head vigorously.
"Drinking leads to mistakes, drinking leads to mistakes. Alright, send me the order details quickly!"
"Sent them long ago. Hurry up and get ready."
Ren Yuanhao clicked open the task order data. "All-rounded, preferably proficient in twelve languages, national champion in free combat, handsome, and sunny!" He threw away the half-ruined pack of cigarettes and added, "What kind of godly boyfriend is this? It's like how we men demand big breasts and brains – is it possible? Is it scientific?"
"Stop complaining. In my understanding, it's quite reliable. Hurry up, go!"
Thus, Ren Yuanhao, dressed as a scholarly gentleman in a clean white shirt and carrying a briefcase, headed out the door.
"The Pei Group Building seems to be only two streets away from Lionheart Building."
Ren Yuanhao got into a taxi, repeatedly urging the driver to hurry. In the meantime, he read some of the order details.
"What? Preferably a company employee? This is a bit different from before! What? And no smoking? What kind of draconian clauses are these? Are the order requirements becoming more demanding? Or is it that people have become more complex?"
Before Ren Yuanhao could even finish his complaint, the taxi had already arrived outside the Pei Group Building.
He alighted from the car and silently recited to himself: I'm here for a job interview. I must maintain a sunny image, not smoke, speak appropriately, and not look astray...
In short, he recalled everything he could, then, putting on a show, he entered the Pei Group Building with the resume prepared by the system.
It was already past working hours, and the usual recruitment process had begun. On one side of the passage sat at least forty to fifty men dressed in suits like himself. However, what piqued his curiosity was that some of them were as strong as oxen, not at all like office workers living in a state of sub-health, yet they were also here for the recruitment.
Because Ren Yuanhao arrived late, he was directly assigned the second-to-last position.
"Hey, brother, come here for a moment."
The one calling Ren Yuanhao was a man who looked sly. He was probably also here for the recruitment, and his attire was clean. Ren Yuanhao thought that since he had nothing else to do, he might as well listen to what this shifty-eyed fellow had to say.
He walked unhurriedly towards the man. As soon as he sat down, the man began to size him up.
"You look quite good, too bad the acting president of the company is a man."
"Damn? Am I the kind of man who uses his looks to get ahead?"
Ren Yuanhao remained silent, about to pull out a cigarette, when he suddenly remembered one of the order conditions was no smoking.
"Brother, what position are you applying for?"
The man, seeing his silence, changed the topic to a more normal one.
Ren Yuanhao had previously looked at his resume. The marketing department was a place full of beautiful women, so going there was naturally the best choice. After all, with so many beautiful women, working would be invigorating, incredibly invigorating!
"Marketing Department."
"Marketing Department? Are you sure?"
The man's face showed disbelief, or perhaps schadenfreude. He then added, "Brother, with your looks, you might be able to get by in other companies, but here, even if you could get by, you'd be picking up scraps after others have had their fill."
"What do you mean by that?"
Ren Yuanhao's interest was piqued by his meaningful words.
The man suddenly glanced left and right. The red lights of the cameras at the main entrance flashed. His face turned pale, and he leaned closer to Ren Yuanhao's ear, whispering, "Walls have ears. Let me tell you, in this company, anyone with a bit of looks is probably the president's 'girlfriend'."
"'Girlfriend'?"
"Shh, keep your voice down. Don't you see those cameras aiming at us like guns?"
Ren Yuanhao then noticed the sheer number of cameras in this company, almost like guards every ten steps and sentries every five. How uncomfortable it must be to live in such an environment under constant surveillance, yet so many people wanted to squeeze into this company.
"Let me put it this way: if you go to the marketing department, you'll most likely become the chief eunuch, being reprimanded by the emperor above and bothered by concubines and noble ladies below. Your small frame won't be able to handle it."
"What the heck? Is the president that domineering? The entire company is like a harem!"
Ren Yuanhao was not someone who feared difficulty. The more turbulent and perilous the place, the more he wanted to venture in. To liberate the harem and restore peace to the building, he would charge forward even against a thousand men and ten thousand horses!
A surge of heroic spirit filled his chest. Ren Yuanhao was in high spirits, but upon seeing the long queue, his heart sank.
"What the hell, how long will it take to recruit until the year of the monkey!"
"Brother, seeing your righteous and awe-inspiring look, have you decided to take the plunge?"
"Absolutely."
"Really?"
"Even if I lie, my expression won't!"
The man decisively took out a ticket from his hand, on which was written number 7. It was the order number for the job application queue!
"Damn, could it be that this guy was so impressed by my heroic spirit that he wants to exchange the numbers with me!"
"Here, for you! Hero!"
"Okay! Thank you!"
Ren Yuanhao had an air of "The wind howls and the Yi River is cold, a hero departs and never returns."
"200 yuan, a firm price."
The man's words were like a bucket of ice-cold water, doused over Ren Yuanhao's head!
"What the heck, you want money too? Are you playing me?"
The man gave him a disdainful look, shook his head meaningfully, and pretended not to know him, moving to another stool and looking around as if searching for someone.
Ren Yuanhao suddenly realized what this guy was up to. He thought to himself, 200 yuan is a small matter, but delaying the order...
As soon as he thought of this, his lower body seemed to go numb, and a cool breeze blew.
He scurried over and sat down beside the man, heroically took out two hundred yuan, crumpled it into a ball, and placed it in the man's hand.
After receiving the money, the man didn't seem to move. Ren Yuanhao wondered if his endeavor was going to be doomed from the start.
Just as he was puzzled, the man waved two fingers in front of his eyes again.
"What the heck, price gouging!"
Ren Yuanhao was burning with anxiety and took out two more bills, finally exchanging them for the number 7 ticket.
"Brother, you're really amazing, earning 400 yuan in the blink of an eye. I'm impressed." Ren Yuanhao, having been tricked early in the morning, naturally felt displeased. Just then, a voluptuous woman poked her head out from the recruitment department and called out loudly, "Number 7, Number 7!"
"Brother, sometimes paying a little extra can avoid unforeseen circumstances. Don't wear a sullen face, it's your turn to go on stage."
For some reason, as the man spoke these inexplicable words, Ren Yuanhao felt a sudden and profound change in his demeanor!
