Ren Yuanhao's pair of blood-red eyes stared at the two, making them's hearts tremble. The bald man's grip tightened a bit more.
At this moment, Zhang Yingfang was hovering on the brink of life and death. Everything before her began to blur, her breathing became difficult, and her face flushed red. Funnier still, she didn't even know who she had angered, or why the men behind them had kidnapped her.
However, at this moment, Zhang Yingfang, drawing on some unknown strength, suddenly slammed the back of her head against the bald man's chin. Coincidentally, just as the bald man was about to speak, his tongue had already protruded halfway.
His two rows of teeth snapped shut, like a beast trap quickly closing after its mechanism was triggered. The half-exposed tongue was sharply bitten by his teeth, and for a moment, blood gushed out. The pain made him curse profusely, and his hands involuntarily loosened their grip.
Zhang Yingfang had intended to sprint towards the man in front of her, but due to oxygen deprivation, she stumbled after only two steps. Seeing the situation turn south, the bearded man didn't know which way to turn. A moment's hesitation allowed Ren Yuanhao to seize the opportunity.
As Zhang Yingfang rushed out, Ren Yuanhao shielded her behind him and said softly, "I'm here, don't be afraid."
Just as he was about to teach these two fellows a lesson, these two, sensing trouble, decided to flee directly, disappearing into the car.
Half an hour later, Ren Yuanhao and Zhang Yingfang checked into a room together.
"Yuanhao, are you alright?"
"I'm fine, just my neck is a bit sore. I'll be okay after a rest."
Zhang Yingfang herself was not seriously injured. Once her breathing normalized, she began to check Ren Yuanhao's wounds, as he was not in good condition.
She slowly helped the dazed Ren Yuanhao remove his shirt. Bruises and contusions of varying shades of blue and red covered his body. Most critically, his back neck was a large area of pooled blood, a shocking sight.
There was a bathroom in the room, so she had to fetch some hot water to wipe Ren Yuanhao's body. During the process, Ren Yuanhao would occasionally frown tightly or let out a cry of pain, which made Zhang Yingfang feel as if countless knives were sawing at her heart.
The physical pain caused Ren Yuanhao to fall asleep quickly.
Startled, Zhang Yingfang couldn't sleep and simply sat by the bedside, gazing blankly at the sleeping Ren Yuanhao.
Since her ex-boyfriend passed away, Zhang Yingfang had never stayed in the same room with any man until late at night. She leaned forward, listening to Ren Yuanhao's increasingly steady breathing, and felt a sense of peace.
Bathed in moonlight, looking at the man so close to her, Zhang Yingfang's heart had, from this moment on, imprinted him without reservation.
The moon set and clouds rose, the twilight casting a shadow over the city about to awaken.
Early in the morning, Ren Yuanhao was woken by the barking of dogs in the hotel. He instinctively sprang up from the bed, completely forgetting the severe injury to his back neck, and let out a piercing scream of pain.
Zhang Yingfang was also startled awake by this pig-slaughtering scream. She turned to look and saw Ren Yuanhao curled up in a ball, clutching his back neck with both hands, his teeth clenched, and sweat beading on his forehead.
"Yuanhao, don't move. It's dawn, I'll go buy some swelling relief medicine," Zhang Yingfang said, her eyebrows knitted, as if she could feel his sharp pain herself.
"Don't go. I'm fine."
How could Zhang Yingfang not know he was trying to be tough? Just as she was about to examine his injured area, she heard Ren Yuanhao's phone ring.
"Sister Zhang, please pick it up for me," Ren Yuanhao said, curled up and daring not to move.
Zhang Yingfang responded and answered the call.
"Hello, hello, hello, Ren Yuanhao. First, I want to clarify something. I'm not calling because I care about you, but out of gratitude. I'm only calling out of gratitude, so don't overthink it. How are your injuries?"
