Chapter 2385: Captivity Plan Woes.
The ease of losing control is the main reason why the highest level a killer in captivity had ever reached was rank 4. The restriction of movements and lack of freedom eventually got to the killers, and they succumbed to the temptation of mutation.
The fourth reason this plan failed was because once the captives get an inkling that he wants to possess them, they usually become desperate and intentionally lose control.
Once they lose control, his years of effort to raise them will go to waste. Their mutated form will also become something he has to fight and kill, which will accelerate the fracture of his soul.
He had tried to circumvent the previous three reasons for his failure by brainwashing children from a young age, helping them become killers, and even granting them freedom.
The children didn’t think that he wanted to possess them. They thought that he truly loved them. So they had no reason to despair.
Some of these children even managed to reach the legendary rank. The freedom they had and the lack of worries made it easier for them to resist the temptation of their divine flesh.
Unfortunately, whenever it came time to possess them, they would despair as their world view collapsed. Some of them mutated involuntarily there and then because of their unstable mental state. The others intentionally lose control to spite him.
There was also the third option in which some of those kids began to covet his power and wanted to replace him. They began targeting him either because they were ignorant and greedy for his power or because they had sensed that he had a weakness.
Either way, all of his plans to raise killers in captivity have failed. The only time he ever came close to his goal of having an angel to possess was when he let his targets have freedom and be ignorant of his existence.
The ignorant killers in the world are like that. They have freedom and motive to grow stronger. So some of them succeed and manage to reach the rank of angel.
However, the church of killing always came to rain on his parade whenever it was time for him to reap the fruit of waiting.
He could have solved the problem of raising killers in captivity if he had the psychic abilities of the pathway of telepath at his disposal to brainwash them.
His plan would have also come to pass if he was also a slaver. He would be able to enslave the killers and nullify most of the problems.
Unfortunately, he can’t have more than one pathway because he doesn’t have six souls. In fact, he doesn’t have three souls currently.
He only has one soul, and his current body was put together by possessing a rank 7 killer. This body isn’t his and can’t nurture him. The best that it can do is protect him.
The lack of a body in perfect sync with him means that his soul is slowly and surely scattering. If not for the fact that he is the soul of a god, he wouldn’t have been able to live for this long and use the divine abilities of the pathway of killing in possession of his body.
This inability to switch his pathways means he has no other choice but to stick with trying to recover his body and the authority of the pathway of killing in order to revive.
He sighed when he thought about his situation. Then he lamented softly, "If only I could have the pathway of undying. I don’t even need much. I only need their rank 7 divine ability."
The rank 7 divine ability of the pathway of undying is called Refresh and Rewind. It is a disgustingly powerful divine ability whose sole purpose is to keep the undying godclad alive at all costs.
The passive function of the Refresh and Rewind divine ability is eternal life. Anyone who possesses this divine ability will get to live forever. This is a privilege that only gods and subordinate gods usually get to enjoy.
A legend usually lives for 500 years. A demigod can live for twice as long as that, for up to 1,000 years. An angel’s life span jumps to 5,000 years, while a godling has 10,000 years to live.
But an undying godclad gets to live forever as soon as they reach rank 7. If something happens to cut short their eternal life, they can even resurrect from the dead.
It is already bad enough that an undying godclad can regenerate from a drop of blood or piece of flesh. But if they run out of both life energy and spiritual energy and can’t regenerate anymore, their rank 7 will rewind the state of the legendary undying back to full health and with full spiritual energy.
Death can be overcome with this divine ability. So it is not a surprise that aging and curses can be easily resolved too.
This unreasonable ability is due to the spring of life that an undying godclad had within them. Others take the water of life to heal their bodies and even recover their mental state, but undying godclads take things further than that.
Of course, undying godclads can’t resurrect forever. They have a limited number of extra lives and rewinds possible. Once they are killed again and again in a short amount of time enough for them to run out of extra lives, they will die forever.
A new legendary undying, for instance, with a mastery of 50% of the Refresh and Rewind divine ability can resurrect four times in a row. So they will have to be killed five times in total in a short amount of time in order to kill them permanently.
Each time that undying resurrects, they will return to their peak condition of body and mind. That means they will be full of energy. This is the opposite of the state that their killer will be.
