Chapter 2388: Stand And Wait.
Things would have surely been different if there was a legendary judge helping the judges in the war against the nobles.
In fact, the outcome of the war might have favored the judges if a legendary judge had helped them in battle. But for some reason, the church of justice hadn’t sent any legends to help them.
It wasn’t until they were thoroughly defeated by a legendary noble and were sent packing that the church responded to their requests for high combatant reinforcement. But by now, he had lost too much faith in the church.
Of course, he still has faith in the god of justice. He just doesn’t like what the church of justice was doing.
As a smart person, he has an inkling as to what the church of justice is doing. He has strong suspicions about what their plan is. But he doesn’t like what he suspects at all.
Still, he could only grit his teeth and wait. That’s what they told him to do.
They told him to wait, so he is waiting. He is waiting outside the camp of the remnants of the church of justice. He stood there looking in the direction of the headquarters of the church of justice.
He hasn’t slept in days. It wasn’t because he couldn’t sleep. He hasn’t slept because he doesn’t want to sleep.
He stood watch, standing on his feet and looking in the direction that reinforcement will come from for days on end. He was still armored, so the weight of his armor made standing for days difficult, but he didn’t care.
His armor looked scorched. It was black as if covered in soot. This was because it had been burned.
The fire that burned his armor was no ordinary fire. It was a fire that used blood as fuel. It had appeared when the legendary noble commanded their blood to catch fire.
He was strong and had very strong armor, but his strength and the incredible defense of his armor were of no help in resisting the affliction of a burning blood.
He was literally burning from within. He had two pathways with six divine abilities each for a total of twelve divine abilities, but there was nothing he could do to resist the effect of that rule.
He was helpless as his blood burned him alive, and so were his soldiers and his mount. Everyone died except him. He was only able to survive because he was strong enough to run away from the noble fast enough.
If the noble had chased him, he would have surely died. But the noble had let him go so that she could focus on the rest of the people who weren’t fast enough to escape.
That was just the beginning of defeat for the forces of the Church of Justice. That noble went around dismantling every one of their forces after that.
This series of devastating defeats was why it was decided that they retreat to the borders as soon as possible. It was either that or be burned alive.
The soot on his armor is from the smoke caused by the burning flesh of his brothers in arms. It is a reminder of his armor and clear evidence of what would happen if they encountered that legendary noble again.
With this kind of souvenir, he would never forget the defeat. It was why he was one of the people that were adamant about them retreating as fast as possible.
Some judges had wanted to fight to the death. But he had asked them to retreat so that they could live to fight another day and in a more favorable battle where their presence would count towards the victory of the church of justice instead of counting towards kindling for a human bonfire.
Actually, things wouldn’t have turned out so bad if the enemy were a legendary warrior or a legendary giant. He would have at least been able to duke it out with those kinds of enemies because they were physical fighters.
He wouldn’t have been so helpless in a physical brawl. He might have been able to beat them since he could touch and harm them.
If the enemy had been a legendary warrior or a legendary giant, he would have been one of the people who wanted to remain to fight. Unfortunately, that wasn’t so.
The power of the legendary noble was unreasonable. Both the attack and the defense of the noble were unreasonable. Even now after many days of thinking about it, he still can’t accept his defeat because it seemed unfair to him.
However, despite his defeat, he is more determined than ever before to bring down nobles. That defeat has lit up a fire of unrelenting resolve and determination within him.
He said to himself, "No one with that kind of power should be allowed to exist. They are too powerful and tyrannical to be allowed control over any part of the world."
This determination was why he had been waiting for reinforcements for more than five days. Many people had tried to get him to rest, but he didn’t listen.
As he was standing there, someone came up to him. It was the lady that had helped him acquire the complete victory over the noble that came with an army to avenge the death of his daughter.
He looked at her with surprise and asked, "You survived?"
She smiled depreciatingly and said, "I barely survived. The noble didn’t see me, but their rule still harmed me. If not for the fact that they were unaware of my existence and I was at the back of the army, I wouldn’t have been able to escape."
"I was able to escape with my guards. But we were very injured. I was able to survive, but it took me many days to heal, which was why it took me so long to arrive."
He became silent after hearing about her experience. He became silent because he didn’t have anything to say and because he began remembering everyone that hadn’t been lucky enough to escape like him and her.
