After wrapping up the shoot, Zhou Yun didn’t get any rest.
"You haven’t been seen publicly for a long time. We need to increase your exposure to help you secure that film role, as your advantage lies in your fame. Thank heavens the director isn’t the type who dislikes female celebrities, otherwise if he insisted on choosing a real actor, fame could have been a burden."
Zhou Yun returned to the apartment.
The apartment had been cleaned by a hired cleaner since it had not been lived in for a while, it felt strange walking in.
Zhou Lan followed Zhou Yun into the apartment.
"Tomorrow we’re going to the company to sign a new contract and discuss some matters, the day after tomorrow we’re off to Beijing for a brand event which I’ve arranged for you, Friday VX is opening a store in Nanjing, and as a VX brand ambassador, you need to be there. In the evening, there’s a live broadcast for Xiao Chun Candy, we’ve arranged to go to a major broadcaster’s live stream room, oh, right, Xiao Chun Candy wants to renew their contract with us for another six months. Previously, our endorsement contract was only for six months, I told them if they want to renew, it needs to be at least a year, no more six-month contracts."
"Ok, you decide, just give me a schedule when it’s time," Zhou Yun lazily settled on the sofa, "Home is still the most comfortable."
Zhou Lan casually sat down on the single-seater sofa next to him, "Don’t sleep yet, there’s something we need to discuss. Your current exposure is quite low, which isn’t good as you haven’t had releases recently. Your fans are mostly new, and without maintaining some visibility, your popularity will quickly fade away, which is the downside of not having consistent works. We’ve been relying too much on certain hot topics before."
Zhou Yun asked, "Isn’t ’Eighth Heartbeat’ supposed to air at the end of this year?"
Zhou Lan answered, "They are waiting for the second part of ’Eighth Heartbeat’ to wrap up. They hope to seamlessly premiere the second part then, using your momentum to boost it."
Zhou Yun shrugged. "When will it be finished filming?"
"It’s expected to take another month, I heard that they’ve written sixty episodes for the second part," Zhou Lan said. "Double that of the first part."
Zhou Yun incredulously said, "They must be desperate to make money. This is just filler, it’s ridiculous."
Zhou Lan: "Anyway, it doesn’t involve us. ’Eighth Heartbeat’ is expected to premiere around the beginning of next year when students are on winter holiday. The target audience is students and young women. Before that, I plan to get you guest appearances on several variety shows. Variety shows are the best way to maintain exposure and they require less time commitment."
"Sure."
"Don’t just agree, pick some yourself. I’ve received invitations from more than a dozen variety shows," Zhou Lan said. "Not many films are looking for you, but there’s no shortage of variety shows. After ’After the Scandal’ aired, everyone really appreciated your performance in the reality show, and your discussion topics are exactly what these shows love."
Zhou Yun took the stack of program brochures handed over by Zhou Lan.
In this stack, there were quite a few familiar names.
One of the shows’ hosts was Lew Yuan.
There was also a regular guest on another show, Gu Huaichun.
Zhou Lan saw the two pages Zhou Yun had pulled out and chuckled.
"I guessed you would pick these two."
Zhou Yun said, "At least there are people I know in these shows; I’m not familiar with the others."
"Didn’t you also record ’The Charm of Competition’ with Zhou Benyuan?" Zhou Lan took out another show’s brochure.
Zhou Benyuan...
Of course, Zhou Yun remembered that outgoing guy, but they had only met once, so they weren’t very close.
"Sister Lan, which ones do you want me to do?" Zhou Yun asked.
Zhou Lan pulled out a program called ’Detective Trip’ and said, "This show is new and hasn’t aired online yet. When you weren’t famous, the director gave you a chance to appear in another one of his shows. This time he specifically called me, asking me to let you join the first episode of this show."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yun nodded and said, "Sure."
"Then we’ll set this one for now. What about the two shows with Lew Yuan and Gu Huaichun—are you interested?" Zhou Lan asked.
Zhou Yun said, "I’m okay with it, as long as the schedules don’t clash."
Zhou Lan agreed, "Then let’s settle on these three."
After discussing the variety shows, Zhou Lan pulled out another file.
Zhou Yun felt overwhelmed, reminiscent of the feelings during final exam preparations while studying.
"What’s this?"
"This is about your current brand endorsements and commercial contracts," Zhou Lan explained. "When you suddenly rose to fame, the company accepted a mishmash of them. Luckily, back then, many brands didn’t believe you would stay famous for long, so contracts were generally only for a quarter or half a year. Many are about to end now, we need to discuss which ones we should renew and which ones to let go. Many brands have contacted us about renewing."
Zhou Yun yawned and sat upright.
The discussion took nearly two hours.
"I’m hungry," Zhou Yun said.
"Shall we order takeout?" Zhou Lan asked. "What do you want to eat?"
"I don’t want takeout, let’s go out and eat something nice," Zhou Yun suggested.
Zhou Lan apologized with a smile, "I’ve already made plans, how about letting Xiaoju accompany you?"
Zhou Yun said, "Xiaoju has been with me on set for so long. She finally got back today and asked for leave early in the morning to meet a young man from her hometown."
Zhou Lan was surprised, "Xiaoju has a boyfriend?"
"Probably not yet, it looks like they’re in the flirting stage," Zhou Yun said.
"So young," Zhou Lan laughed.
"Sister Lan, how about you?"
"What about me?"
"When are you going to get a boyfriend?"
"I don’t have time for a boyfriend now; I’m focused on my career."
They smiled at each other.
After Zhou Lan left, Zhou Yun stayed alone in the apartment, feeling bored. She slept a bit, and then, feeling restless, she fully prepared herself and went to the nearby market to buy some ingredients to cook a meal. She spent quite some time in the kitchen and prepared two dishes and a soup, content with the outcome. She took photos, savored the meal, and finished it all.
Having just come from the set, Zhou Yun allowed herself some indulgence.
Soon, as tonight passes and tomorrow’s sun rises, a new battle begins.
Buzz.
Her phone vibrated.
Zhou Yun picked it up only to be surprised by a message from Chen Fusi, who she hadn’t contacted in a long time: Xiao Yun, I’m back in the country, in Shanghai. Are you free to meet tomorrow?
Zhou Yun was astonished.
She hesitated for a while before replying to Chen Fusi: President Chen, I have to go to the company tomorrow for some discussions, and I’m not sure when they will end. When are you available?
