Chapter 7 The First Lychee Business

Song Qiuwan was indeed exhausted. After a moment's rest, she said, "It's in our family's orchard. Isn't it strange? We went up yesterday and none of them were ripe. Today, Yaoyao and I went up, and many of the southern lychees were red."

Shen Jun was also shocked. If the lychees weren't right in front of him, he would have suspected his wife was deceiving him.

"Dad, you and big brother can go pick them again tonight. Tomorrow, if big brother is free, he can go out and sell these lychees."

Shen Yao then ate another lychee, finding it truly delicious.

Seeing his sister eating so happily, Shen Huaisang couldn't help but reach out and take a bunch.

"Mmm, they're really good!"

Shen Huaisang ate a bunch of lychees very quickly. He reached out for another but was swatted by Song Qiuwan.

"Eat a little less, be careful of getting too much internal heat."

Shen Huaisang: ...

"Go, take some for your friends to eat," Shen Jun quickly instructed Shen Huaisang.

Shen Huaisang wasn't stingy. He took a large pile and headed into the guesthouse.

The remaining lychees were carried home by Shen Jun and the others.

After eating the lychees, Shen Jun finally understood why his son had been so enthusiastic. The taste was indeed good.

"You said these lychees have grown a lot?"

"Yes, four large baskets like this, and we haven't even picked half of the trees. The yield is astonishingly high," Song Qiuwan said excitedly, thinking of the heavy lychees hanging on the branches.

The lychees were not yet on the market, and with such good taste, they were sure to sell at a high price.

"Then when Huaimin gets back, we'll go down and pick them to sell," Shen Jun said.

With so many lychees, they would definitely make a good amount of money. Although their daughter said they weren't short of money, he still felt uneasy.

He was always worried that this windfall might affect his Yaoyao.

"Yes, yes, let's take them to sell near the scenic spot. Tomorrow is a rest day, so there will definitely be many people."

Shen Yao didn't expect that before her lychees could even reach tomorrow, someone would already be coming to buy them.

"Uncle Shen, Aunt Qiu."

A man with a very honest appearance walked in and quickly called out to Shen Jun and Song Qiuwan.

"It's Gaoyang, long time no see," Song Qiuwan quickly greeted him.

Shen Huaisang had brought Gaoyang home a few times in high school, so Song Qiuwan remembered him.

"Aunt Qiu, don't bother. I'm here to ask for your help with something," Gaoyang said quickly.

"Just tell us what you need help with. We'll definitely help if we can," Song Qiuwan said generously.

Gaoyang rubbed his head and said, "You can definitely help with this. Can I buy some lychees from you?"

His wife was pregnant and couldn't eat anything. She had been wanting to eat lychees lately, but the local lychees weren't in season yet. The ones bought online weren't fresh, and she would vomit them out after eating.

This had worried Gaoyang greatly. He had tasted some lychees just now and found their taste to be very good, and they were fresh!

"Don't talk about selling. If you want some, follow Uncle Shen and big brother Shen up the mountain this afternoon to pick them."

Song Qiuwan didn't intend to charge him. Even if they weren't acquaintances, just knowing that Gaoyang was there to renovate their guesthouse, she had to treat him well.

"That won't do. At this time of year, lychees aren't cheap, and they taste so good. It's not right not to accept payment," Gaoyang quickly refused.

They knew the market for lychees. Early lychees were very expensive. Even ordinary "Fei Zi Xiao" cost tens of yuan, let alone such high-quality ones.

It would still be half a month before "Fei Zi Xiao" came to market, so if the Shen family's lychees were put out, they would be in high demand even at dozens of yuan per jin.

Therefore, the first batch of lychees for locals was almost never eaten by themselves; most were sold for money.

"Mom, accept it if Gaoyang offers. Business should be conducted on clear terms," Shen Huaisang said, coming over. It was best not to have this back-and-forth, who knew how long it would take.

"Alright then, Gaoyang, just give what you think is fair, since you're practically family," Shen Jun immediately decided.

Gaoyang was finally happy. Never mind that lychees were expensive now; as long as his wife could eat them, he was willing to pay any price.

"Then Uncle Shen, is 100 yuan per jin okay for these lychees?"

Gaoyang said this with a bit of trepidation. 100 yuan was definitely not expensive for these lychees, as the glutinous rice dumplings he had eaten for over 100 yuan tasted worse than these "Fei Zi Xiao."

"100!" Song Qiuwan's voice rose considerably, clearly shocked by the price.

The most expensive "Fei Zi Xiao" they had bought was only 38 yuan per jin. This was almost a threefold increase.

"I know it might be a bit low, but..." Gaoyang said, feeling very embarrassed and about to raise the price.

"No, no, no, 100 yuan per jin is already a lot," the honest Shen Jun quickly said.

Shen Yao didn't interrupt at all. In her opinion, any price for these lychees was reasonable, especially given how rare the spiritual spring water was.

However, she also knew that lychees at 100 yuan per jin were already very high for ordinary people.

"Then it's 100 yuan per jin. I'll take 10 jin first," Gaoyang said quickly.

Coincidentally, there were still dozens of jin of lychees that Shen Yao and Song Qiuwan had picked, so Gaoyang didn't need to go up the mountain to pick them himself.

Gaoyang took the lychees, instructed the subordinates he had brought, and hurried home with the fruit.

Upon hearing that Gaoyang's pregnant wife wanted to eat lychees, Song Qiuwan even gave him an extra two jin.

Gaoyang returned home with the lychees and immediately took a large bunch back to the room.

In the room, a terrifyingly thin woman was lying on the bed with a bulging belly.

The woman's cheeks were wet, clearly she had been crying.

"Shanshan, what's wrong?" Gaoyang, startled, rushed to the bedside and squatted down.

"I... I... I just came back from the hospital. The doctor said the baby is malnourished and the baby's position is not right..."

As she spoke, the woman started crying again.

Gaoyang became flustered, quickly went to comfort his wife, and it took a while for her to calm down.

"Don't cry. Look, what did I bring you?" Gaoyang said, picking up the lychees he had dropped on the floor in his haste.

The bright red lychees were still hanging on the branches, and not a single one had fallen off.

"Lychees?"

Gao Shanshan said in surprise, her mouth involuntarily secreting saliva. She wanted to eat them.

Seeing his wife's intention, Gaoyang quickly peeled a lychee and put it into Gao Shanshan's mouth.

The sweet taste immediately filled Gao Shanshan's mouth. She quickly finished it, and Gaoyang immediately peeled another.

It wasn't until she finished a whole bunch of lychees that Gao Shanshan let out a satisfied burp.

At this point, neither of them thought about whether eating too many lychees would cause internal heat.

Since she became pregnant, Gao Shanshan couldn't eat anything. She would vomit whatever she ate, until she couldn't vomit anymore.

In severe cases, she even had to be hospitalized for nutritional injections. She had managed to hold on until she was more than seven months pregnant.

Now, as long as she could eat something, she didn't care about anything else.
