Chapter 236: 236
Michelle didn’t even have the time to properly look at the titles of the books when someone approached her.
"Hey, outsider!" A group of three beautiful women and two men came to her. The one who spoke was one of the two guys.
"Yes?" Michelle turned to look at them. Her face was calm, but deep inside, she was seething. She didn’t have much time and those disciples came to bother her.
"What do you think you are doing here? How dare you come into the library when you aren’t even a disciple of the sect?" One of the guys clearly didn’t care that when Michelle entered the library, the librarian didn’t have any complaints about her presence.
Rolling her eyes a bit, Michelle felt like throwing the pendant she got from Mavreth at the guy’s face, but she held back.
When Mavreth sent her to analyze her poison, he knew she would go to the library. And he must have guessed that the disciples would find trouble with her. But he probably wouldn’t like it if Michelle made them shut up just by showing off the pendant.
Michelle’s silence made the group misunderstand what was going on. They thought she was scared of them.
So the guy continued. "And why are you in the poison section? Do you think a fool like you has the right to study our sect’s poisons? These were all written by our elders, and only their closest disciples can understand them."
The guy’s words caught Michelle’s attention. Originally, when she went to the library, she thought it would be packed with disciples. The emptiness inside surprised her a bit. After the guy’s words, she finally understood it.
Most disciples weren’t able to comprehend the content of the books, so they didn’t go into the library.
That also meant there was probably another library in the sect, where studied the disciples who had yet to understand the complex books.

Seeing that Michelle still wasn’t showing much of a reaction, the guy felt offended. Before Michelle could snap out of her thoughts, something stung on her cheek, her pupils shrinking.
"Are you ignoring me?" the guy raised his voice at Michelle.
Slowly turning her head to look at him, Michelle touched her cheek lightly. She felt the sudden urge to kill that bastard. Her hand was itching to summon her sickle.
But she didn’t. Instead, she picked up a random book and threw it at the guy.
He didn’t even have the chance to react before his nose started bleeding. The book thudded on the ground.
The group was speechless, and the guy held his face in pain. He couldn’t even speak.
Michelle didn’t spare the group a second glance, turning back to the books.
When one of the girls wanted to step in to demand an apology, Michelle threw a cold glare at her, lifting a nearby book. A clear threat.
The girl felt humiliated. No one had ever acted like that towards her. She was a genius in the Poison Maker Mastery field. But the plain-looking girl that suddenly appeared in the sect was not only disregarding but even threatening her.
It wasn’t hard for Michelle to guess what the group was thinking about her, but she didn’t have the time to care. All she cared about at the moment was analyzing the poison.
So she picked up three books first: one about poisons to be eaten or drunk, the second one about poison working after getting into blood, and the third about poisons working after being inhaled or getting in contact with skin.
Seeing the three books, the group that was about to leave stopped. Though the three books were considered for beginners and about basics, anyone who went into the library frequently would know they were written in probably the most complex way out of all the books in the poison section.
Michelle didn’t know that, but even if she did, she would have still picked them up. She wanted to see the difference between her knowledge and the knowledge of the people in the middle realm. So picking up something their elders had a hard time understanding would let her see the difference between herself and the elite.
Not even bothering to find a place to sit down, Michelle plopped down on the ground, sitting cross-legged, and started reading the first book.
After just a few sentences, clear disappointment showed on her face. She was expecting something more. Especially since the disciples of the poison section of the sect were being so arrogant.
With a sigh, Michelle proceeded to skim through all the three books before returning them. The only thing that warmed her disappointed heart a bit was the fact that the people in the middle realm knew how to make poisons that spread through one’s system only after touching them.
At the same time, it awakened something within her. Wondering about Mavreth’s prowess in poison, she wanted to try and make a poison that would take him down. With her knowledge from her past life, she could be able to do it without even using spirit energy.
Showing a slight smile, she stood up and went to the medicine section. And after skimming through a few books there, she went to the elixir section.
In the evening, when Michelle left the library, her expression was sour. So it seemed the people in the middle realm had no clue that a poison could be used as a medicine and the other way around. But she had the feeling that Mavreth knew. And something was telling her he used that method on the poison he gave her.
So she returned to her room. It was time for another experiment.
Preparing for a bath, Michelle let a pill roll out of the bottle Mavreth gave her and ground it into fine powder. Then, she added it into her bathwater.
Mixed with water, it didn’t show much of a reaction, but if observing closely, one could feel that the water got warmer. A strange phenomenon.
Taking off her clothes and the disguise mask, Michelle stepped into the bathtub, taking a slow, deep breath as she felt her skin tingle when the water touched it. It felt a bit similar to when the Shadow Slimes in the Fiend Dungeon touched her.
"How nasty..." Michelle submerged most of her body under the water, leaving only her head above. She had a fair guess about the effect of the poison. At the moment, it was probably working beneficially, specifically improving her sensitivity to the shadow essence around her so she could cultivate it.
But if she let the poison get into her blood, it would most probably affect her shadow dantian. Negatively.
Michelle decided not to try it right away. First, she tried cultivating the shadow essence.
She had never done it before, but it went suspiciously smooth. That convinced Michelle it wasn’t natural.
Having confirmed the poison’s effects, it was time for Michelle to figure out what it was made of. That, too, was a part of analyzing it.
Feeling the tingling sensation all over her body, Michelle submerged even her head. She wanted to clear her head for a moment. And getting underwater helped a bit.
But when her head was underwater, a strange feeling came over her.
As if controlled by the poison, the water rushed at her face, entering her nostrils even though she didn’t breathe in.
With a smile, Michelle pushed her head above the water. She knew at least one of the poison’s ingredients. Probably the most important one.
And that just made her more curious. How was Mavreth able to get it? She thought it was impossible.
