Chapter 312 Delivering Oneself to Death

The manager of Yunduan Company had lost all composure. With a pleading expression, he spoke to Kang You and Li Min, "Please, spare me. Everything I did was according to my boss's instructions. I am truly wronged."

"Unbelievably shameless!" Kang You glared at the Yunduan Company manager and said, "Someone like you, if I were to teach you a lesson, it would only soil my hands. Get lost!"

Upon hearing this, the Yunduan Company manager fled immediately.

"Dad, why did you let him go?" Xiao Xin was indignant. "Someone like him should be taught a lesson. He's a villain. As the saying goes, one must eradicate evil completely."

"Xiao Xin, some matters are not as simple as you think," Kang You replied.

Xiao Xin was unconvinced but said nothing further.

Jiang Yi smiled slightly. Xiao Xin's words, "eradicate evil completely," were indeed well-reasoned.

"Mr. Jiang, thank you for your help. If it weren't for you this time, my factory would have surely gone bankrupt!" Kang You said to Jiang Yi with deep gratitude.

Li Min also thanked Jiang Yi sincerely.

"You're welcome. It was just a small effort!" Jiang Yi smiled faintly.

After chatting with Kang You and Li Min for a while, he turned and left the factory. As soon as he reached the main gate, Li Xin caught up.

"Is there anything else I can help you with?" Jiang Yi asked with a smile.

"I want to treat you to a meal!" Xiao Xin said to Jiang Yi. "You've helped our family so much, and I have nothing else to thank you with, so I can only invite you to dinner."

"Alright!" Jiang Yi agreed.

"Then let's go!" Xiao Xin said, and then took Jiang Yi onto a bus. "I've been to a restaurant before, and the food there is the best I've ever tasted."

Jiang Yi nodded.

"Have you told me about your childhood?" Jiang Yi asked.

"No!" Xiao Xin shook her head and replied, "I was adopted by my parents. They told me this when I was very young. But it doesn't matter; they treat me as if I were their own daughter, and I consider them my real parents."

Jiang Yi took a deep breath. It seemed Xiao Xin already knew she was adopted.

"Don't you want to know who your biological parents are?" Jiang Yi asked.

"Yes!" Xiao Xin smiled. "But what of it? It's just a thought. There are no clues about my background."

Jiang Yi remained silent.

"By the way, why are you so concerned about my affairs?" Xiao Xin's gaze fell on Jiang Yi, and she smiled. "Don't tell me you know my background and can tell me who my biological parents are? Are they well?"

"I don't know. I was just saying casually," Jiang Yi replied.

A look of disappointment crossed Xiao Xin's face upon hearing this. Seeing Xiao Xin's dejected expression, Jiang Yi felt a pang of sadness in his heart. However, for Xiao Xin's safety, he could not reveal their true relationship yet.

"You're lying to me..." Xiao Xin frowned.

Her words made Jiang Yi pause. How did she know he was lying? Seeing Jiang Yi's reaction, Xiao Xin let out a chuckle.

"I was just kidding," Xiao Xin said with a smile. "You're a good person. Even if you're lying to me, it's for my own good."

Hearing this, Jiang Yi smiled faintly. Xiao Xin's words lessened his self-blame. Soon, the bus reached the stop. Jiang Yi and Xiao Xin got off and walked straight into a small restaurant nearby. The restaurant was not luxurious; it was rather simple. After sitting down at a table, Xiao Xin ordered a few dishes and said to Jiang Yi, "I don't have much money, so I can only treat you to a meal here..."

"It's alright!" Jiang Yi smiled. "This place is quite good."

Recalling Xiao Xin's childhood, Jiang Yi couldn't help but smile. Xiao Xin had grown up and was much more sensible than when she was little. He remembered how she used to stick to him every day when she was young, even following him when he went out to play with friends. Xiao Xin had lost her memory; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to hide it from her. Ten minutes later, the food was served.

"Mr. Jiang, how does it taste?" Xiao Xin asked Jiang Yi expectantly.

"Hmm, let me try." Jiang Yi picked up a piece of scrambled eggs with tomatoes and put it in his mouth. After eating, he nodded; the taste was acceptable. Afterward, Jiang Yi tried a few other dishes.

"Mr. Jiang, how is the taste?" Xiao Xin asked him.

"It's alright!" Jiang Yi replied.

Hearing this, Xiao Xin's brow furrowed slightly.

"Mr. Jiang, you're not from the capital, are you? Why did you lie to us?" Xiao Xin asked, staring at Jiang Yi.

Jiang Yi was taken aback. "People from the capital don't like these dishes, yet you say they are alright." Xiao Xin continued, "Besides, your accent is not from the capital at all; it's from Jiang Province."

Jiang Yi felt a sense of helplessness. He hadn't expected Xiao Xin to find out. He had to admit, Xiao Xin was quite sharp.

"But it doesn't matter. I know you must have your reasons. I won't be angry. I said all this just to confirm," Xiao Xin said with a smile.

Jiang Yi felt there was something more to Xiao Xin's words. He thought for a long time but couldn't guess what Xiao Xin was really thinking.

"Xiao Xin, you wretched girl, I've finally found you!" an enraged voice suddenly declared.

Jiang Yi turned his head and saw the woman in the red dress from that day walking in, her face full of arrogance.

"I didn't expect you to be here too." The woman in the red dress's gaze fell on Jiang Yi, and a sinister expression appeared on her face. "You dared to oppose me that day. I said I would make you suffer badly. Seeing you today, you won't leave here alive."

Jiang Yi's brow furrowed slightly. This woman was not old, about the same age as Xiao Xin, but her heart was so malicious.

"Mr. Jiang, her name is Xu Yingying. She's the eldest daughter of the Xu family. We shouldn't provoke her. Let's leave quickly!" Xiao Xin whispered to Jiang Yi.

"It's alright, I'm here!" Jiang Yi replied.

"But..." Xiao Xin looked helpless.

"Guards!" Xu Yingying called out. As soon as she finished speaking, a middle-aged man in a long gown walked in from outside. Judging by his attire, he was clearly a martial artist, and a skilled one at that. Jiang Yi smiled faintly. No wonder Xu Yingying was so arrogant; she had found a master to deal with him. Xu Yingying had underestimated him. This so-called master was no match for him.

"Kill this guy for me, and I'll give you two hundred thousand!" Xu Yingying pointed at Jiang Yi and said to the middle-aged man. The middle-aged man's eyes immediately lit up. Two hundred thousand was a considerable sum of money for him.
