"Stop your pointless prattling!" Jiang Yi roared at the woman. "I am saving your grandfather right now. Do you want him to die? And which of your eyes saw me stealing from your Dongfang family? Without proof, stop your nonsense and disturbing my work."
The woman was stunned into silence by Jiang Yi's furious outburst. She felt indignant but, to ensure her grandfather was saved, she suppressed her feelings.
Jiang Yi continued to treat the old man without further comment. The old man was in a critical condition; it was fortunate he had encountered Jiang Yi, otherwise, he would surely have died.
A crowd of onlookers stood around, pointing and murmuring about Jiang Yi.
"Can this kid really stabilize the old man's condition?"
"Definitely not. Just by looking at him, he's no doctor."
"This kid is probably just trying to grab attention, messing around here for show."
...
Hearing the surrounding discussions, the woman's willow-like brows furrowed. Just as she was about to intervene again, the old man took a deep breath and regained consciousness. The pallor on his face began to recede, replaced by a touch of color.
The crowd that had been criticizing Jiang Yi suddenly found themselves on the receiving end of a slap to their faces. They had accused Jiang Yi of seeking attention and being unable to improve the old man's condition, yet now, under Jiang Yi's treatment, the old man had woken up.
"Grandfather..."
Seeing the old man awake, the woman rushed to help him up. With the old man out of danger, she was almost moved to tears of joy, her worry slowly fading from her eyes.
"Don't worry, I'm fine!" the old man said with a chuckle.
The woman nodded.
"Thank you for saving my grandfather. I was wrong just now, please accept my apology." The woman said to Jiang Yi somewhat awkwardly.
Jiang Yi couldn't help but laugh. This woman, so arrogant and overbearing, could actually apologize to someone. It seemed she wasn't entirely unreasonable after all.
Jiang Yi glanced at the woman and the old man, then, with Shen Lu, he walked towards the park exit.
"Young man, please wait a moment!" the old man called out to Jiang Yi.
Jiang Yi stopped and turned back to the old man. "Is something the matter?"
"Young man, what is your name?" The old man sized Jiang Yi up. "I passed out earlier and didn't get a clear look at how you treated me, but after your treatment, the pain in my body has significantly lessened. I am willing to offer a substantial sum to hire you as my private physician."
Jiang Yi ignored the old man and turned to leave the park.
Seeing that Jiang Yi paid the old man no mind, a hint of anger flashed across the woman's face. "Grandfather, this fellow is simply too arrogant. If he hadn't saved you just now, I would have taught him a lesson myself!" she said, frowning.
"Don't be rash!" the old man admonished.
The woman pouted, still somewhat unconvinced. Suddenly, as if remembering something, she quickly said to the old man, "Grandfather, I almost forgot something important. When that fellow was treating you, he used the Jiutian Zhen."
"Jiutian Zhen?" the old man blinked in surprise.
"It is indeed the Jiutian Zhen, I couldn't have been mistaken," the woman stated. "The Jiutian Zhen is a treasure of our Dongfang family. For it to fall into his hands... I will investigate thoroughly when I return. If it turns out the Jiutian Zhen was indeed stolen by him, I will not spare him."
"This matter is of great importance, we must clarify it first," the old man warned.
"Okay!" The woman nodded.
Meanwhile, after leaving the park, Jiang Yi and Shen Lu returned to their hotel.
"Mr. Jiang, that woman and that old man, I don't think they are good people!" Shen Lu said to Jiang Yi. "If I were you, I wouldn't have saved that old man."
Jiang Yi smiled without a word and returned to his room. Shen Lu stood frozen, puzzled by Jiang Yi's expression. Seeing that it was getting late, Shen Lu returned to her own room.
The night passed without incident.
The next morning, as Jiang Yi stepped out of his room, he saw two men in suits lying on the ground, their faces contorted in pain. Shen Lu was glaring sharply at the two men.
"What's going on?" Jiang Yi asked Shen Lu.
"These two were lurking by your door earlier. I could tell they weren't good people, so I taught them a lesson," Shen Lu replied. "We've only just arrived in the capital, and they've already targeted us. They must be involved in something."
Hearing this, Jiang Yi's gaze fell upon the two men in suits.
"Who are you, and what do you want?" Jiang Yi asked.
Neither of the men in suits spoke; they held their tongues.
"It's up to you!" Jiang Yi said to Shen Lu.
"Okay!" Shen Lu responded and produced a sharp dagger.
Jiang Yi had expected Shen Lu to use the dagger to intimidate them. To his surprise, Shen Lu directly plunged the dagger into one of the men in suits. The man screamed in pain. Shen Lu withdrew the dagger and looked at the other man in suits. This man's face was filled with terror, and he was trembling violently. He quickly blurted out, "Fourth Miss sent us to follow you."
Hearing this, Jiang Yi understood. These two men in suits must have been sent by the woman from the park.
"Anything else?" Jiang Yi pressed.
"Fourth Miss said you stole the family treasure, the Jiutian Zhen, and ordered us to retrieve it," the man in suits said.
Jiang Yi sneered upon hearing this. So, it turned out the woman had set her sights on the Jiutian Zhen in his possession.
"Go back and tell your Fourth Miss that this matter ends here. Tell her not to bother me again, or she will regret it," Jiang Yi said calmly.
The men in suits nodded frantically.
"Someone's coming!" Shen Lu alerted Jiang Yi.
Jiang Yi nodded, his gaze falling on the two men in suits. "You can scram!"
The two men scrambled to their feet and limped away. Soon, a waiter arrived with several guests in the corridor. Jiang Yi and Shen Lu acted as if nothing had happened and left the hotel, heading to a restaurant across the street.
The restaurant was luxurious and crowded. Jiang Yi and Shen Lu found a table and ordered some dishes. As the food arrived, they began to eat.
"Mr. Jiang, that woman and that old man from the park are truly despicable. If you hadn't intervened, that old man would have died. Not only did they not thank you, but they even sent people to cause you trouble. Why don't I go take care of them, so they stop bothering you?"
"No need!" Jiang Yi replied. "They are from the Dongfang family. I'll give them another chance." He didn't want to make trouble for them out of consideration for Dongfang Mei and Liu Hong.
